Still playing SW CCG 20 years later. That's how good it is.

I still have all of my old Star Wars CCG cards in books/boxes at home. We also played a lot of Overpower, MTG, and Highlander. Man, the late 90's was a great time for CCGs.

Collected and played both of these. I think Overpower might have been my first CCG, since it was at the comic shop I went to (which wasn't a game store), and they sold them there. Played so much of the game, which then lead to so many other CCGs.

Both of these are alive and thriving with a good fan base. These games are still worth trying to pick up and play.✌😁

I was in love with Star Wars too at that time ... I'm roughly the same age as you Tom ... and purchased the core box 2 pack that would allow you to play with someone else. Sadly though I never really got a chance to play it much as I could never find someone to play with me. I hadn't found my people yet. The Star Wars CCG game was however the first time I ever played a game two handed. I would play against myself, trying my best to make the best decision for both sides. I still have my two core boxes...maybe someday my boys will want to play.

Great video, I really wish more people still played Star Wars CCG, the player's committee is still keeping it running, lets bring it back to life!

I had the exact same experience with the SWCCG. I still play it to this day, and still buy new packs on eBay from time to time. Never have checked out the new cards that the council is putting out, but I definitely love the cards that Decipher put out. Thanks for the memories with this video.

Hi Tom. Overpower is in my top 10 fav game of all time. My friends and I used to play 8 vs 8 heroes with two in reserve. We used to play two players vs two players also and organize whole tournaments at the comic book store. So many amazing memories. Happy to see I’m not alone to have been affected by this game. Much love.

OMG I Had the same exact experience in high school! I didn't really care about Magic, was into comics, liked the idea of a CCG, tried Overpower, which....wasn't very good. Then a friend who was REALLY into Star Wars got us started on the SWCCG and it all took off from there. Tournaments all over the place, winning those tee shirts, etc. Awesome stuff, Tom!

Overpower's my favourite CCG of all time. I've actually been finding its aged the better than SW decipher. When I introduce new players to OP, even today, most of it's pretty easy to understand, apart from confusing, antiquated wordings , but when I used to try to introduce new players to SW, the was just too much going on on each card; numbers everywhere, nonsense symbols. That was why I ended up selling my SW cards, and keep buying more singles for my OP collection.

Would love to see a throw back play through video one day featuring these two! Had both as young teen and loved them both. Collected Star Wars but played overpower a lot. Had an entire summer almost dedicated to overpower. Any chore I had and received money for I spent on overpower and got the kids in the neighborhood involved too. Great times!

Overpower was that game for me too. Loved collecting those. That starter with Carnage was a big find for me.

Star Wars CCG and Magic the Gathering both filled the same space for me the tail end of high school and more so in college. It helped that the baseball strike in 1994 basically ended my sports cards collecting at the time which allowed me to focus on these games.

To be perfectly honest Overpower was the best 1v1 Card game ever made and I'm not overexaggerating that whatsoever. You could build your best 4 team, use location that augment your deck or any powers and then strategize around good/bad matchups, combo or hard tech builds.
This game always had a creator team issue otherwise it would still be going as it always made tons of money and was very successful. I really enjoyed travelling to Buffalo and other U.S avenues, Toronto and Montreal to play in high end tournaments. I had built at the time at the very least 4-6 meta-changing lists.
The betting portion in the game was so strategic it's very hard to duplicate that today. Only The original Middle Earth tcg was this good.

Tom I bet you were a mad man in college. I picture Belushi in animal house! Hard to believe your a mild mannered family man now. Just kidding, love you channel! Best to you and your family during these trying times.

Star Wars CCG is the greatest card game of all time. It had the BEST gameplay mechanics.

Up to a point. After a while, power creep and a lack of balance really started to show before it died.

Strat-O-Matic Baseball was my first CCG ... if that counts.

The economic system of the Decipher Star Wars TCG has been unjustly ignored. The concept of all game element in the cards without need for tokens, counters, or dice is something that needs to be added in more games.
