    The primary issue with developers that typically rotate on a long running project is that you get many that do not play nor developed the original rules of the game. Therefore they do not understand how the game works or how intelligent play occurs. They should have consulted the competitive teams and had them craft a tutorial framework (compensating then of course) and then the devs develop said tutorial

    As a more casual For Honor player, some of the things you mention could have been explained in the tutorial (such as rotations) would be super cool to see explained on this channel! (I'm a duelist at heart, I never got too much into Dom)

    I tested this in the past, if I recall correctly, Caber Toss allows a neutral heavy to land when dodged. It may not, now.
    I retested it. It still does.

      @@fkkfreeze Well, I tested with the training bot. Unless there is something wrong with it, a neutral heavy is guaranteed. Even from Highlander, himself.
      The same happens with longarm. It has poor tracking, so dodging on orange also allows this, again, if the training bot is trustworthy.

    Hilariously me and a friend just finished 100% the trials. In order to beat the revenge one we had to do it four times. Because for some reason you can't parry in that one

      They even tell you that the way to get revenge is to block, dodge or PARRY attacks and then do not allow you to parry. Hysterical.

      The no parry rule pisses me off. The warden and the peacekeeper who attack you have unblockables, and dodging 3rd person attacks are super difficult for me.

    I think you'd have more success getting your point across to anyone who can act on your feedback by framing things less caustically. I get it that it's very funny and it releases frustration, I myself had a jab calling you a knuckledragger with no social tact in this post itself that I thought was hilarious- unfortunately it's very clear those things aren't aiding the broader aspect of communication.
    You're the most informative for honor content creator. We're at a point where you've been making content for this game for years, all outlining issues similar to these (or these exact ones). It's obvious someone from the team will look up the game on youtube and you'll be there somewhere under the deflect comps, but now imagine that the person receiving this feedback isn't "internet funnyman that doesn't care about how info is framed" but "acquaintance that has insecurities about their job's quality"; do you think they would sit through 8 minutes of content that pokes fun at them being incompetent?
    I know it's your personality, but I think you were getting a lot more done back when the report system for bugs and whatnot came up, for example. Just straight up information being handed out to the team so that there was no possible error or misunderstanding that could happen, it was truly like you were spoonfeeding children. That'd make for boring videos, but if the ultimate reason you do these rants isn't preaching to the choir and you'd like to achieve changes with them, it might be worth considering to have sectioned off parts where your feedback is more to the point and has less banter going on.

    3:48 it reminds me of the guard break tutorial from when the game came out. Remember when they thought making guard break work on prediction was a good idea to be implemented right after two betas? They decided to put you up against a captain while feeding you wrong instructions from the tutorial, wouldn't you know nobody understood shit and the game became ledge simulator!
    Yeah good times, i still think that change is what almost killed the game when it came out...
    it baffles me so much that the devs still don't treat the game like a fighting game, because yes, for honor is a fighting game! Saying "iT's UnIQuE" doesn't work anymore, things have to be changed to make the game better (just like heroes reworks lol), and sugarcoating the tutorial isn't really the way to go for new players.

      Not sure if this is the right word to use but they really squander(ed) the potential this game could've had on a wider scale and maybe from there inspire other devs to something similar.
      But we kind of have from you're saying a Smash Bros. situation.
      "It's a Party Game! Quit having fun being technical and competitive!"
      Maybe it's not that bad but I just don't know

      @@Rollie-4DaPollie the game is surely got a lot better, heck there is a reason why people still play it, it's just that there is this costant problem of miscommunication and misdirection from the devs part that is frustrating, one season is going all smooth and the next one they release the lawbringer rework like wtf?!
      Tbf is not that bad, the game is in a mostly good state (imo) and can be enjoyed by casuals and pros alike (imo) but the quality of the live service has unfortunately been discontinuous since forever

    The hero trials are even more of a joke than the tutorial. They almost never get updated and most of them are outdated in some way. an example I found the other day was in the Black Prior hero trial, it teaches you the heavy soft feint into bash as a roll catcher, but ever since the static guard dodge changes, the side heavy you throw as Black Prior will always catch the dodge on the timing the bot is programmed to dodge at. But the game wants you to feint that heavy into a bash for less damage because the bash is clearly the better roll catcher. I don't even think it's a bad thing to teach, the bash can catch a stray dodge at times, but at least make it so that the dodge the bot does actually dodges the damn heavy you throw

Imagine if it explained how to use gb, & how to stuff someone who likes to heavy feint into gb by throwing a light on read when they start their heavy, instead of just telling you what button it is

    It always alarms me how many changes can be made without the repurcussions being thought of. For example the dodge input window change which made all bashes punishable but now lets characters block hyper armour trade attempt and fucked up soft feint to gb. Or when that kensei patch hit and his mixup became interruptable because they lowered the hitstun or how broken zhanhus dodge attack was with that input window change.

    I brought this up in another stream but I'll bring it up here too. How much of the meta is a tutorial supposed to teach? Sure tutorials will teach you basic controls and mechanics, but we all know that's not enough to play against other players. There's a lot more homework you need to do to be somewhat competent online other than "This is how you throw a light, this is how you heavy, use a feint to cancel your heavy attack".
    You mentioned minion point generation and rotations and while this is good to know, it's a fine line to walk when making a tutorial. Provide too much info and you'll scare people away (Looking at you MMO's). Provide too little and people will say the game is obscure (Looking at you Dark Souls).
    Fighting games especially require a lot of homework on the player part. Just see how many videos you alone have made explaining things the game never did. So again I must ask, how much of the meta should a game teach? Not saying your video is bad, this is just something I've been thinking about ever since they mentioned a new tutorial.
    At what point does a tutorial make a player "good enough" to play the game, or this game specifically? Obviously a tutorial isn't going to turn someone into a comp player, that takes months of practice and research, but what should the average player know before going online so they don't have a negative experience of the game and get scared off? Fighting games have a serious issue with player retention, specifically new players and the tutorial is often blamed.

      The tutorial is definitely missing some key pieces, though I feel Freeze's examples don't touch on the critical points. Minion points and rotations aren't the critical pieces missing. The For Honor tutorial covers the most basic of attacking and defending, but the tutorial is missing the single core fundamental to a PvP fight that it never remotely touches on: Reads.
      It's understandable for not all useful information to be covered in the game, there's a lot of meta information that honestly just isn't useful for a newer player, so to limit the amount of information presented at the start is a fair argument. But the most paramount thing the tutorial NEEDS to address is, as far as I know, For Honor literally never explains the "Feint-To-Guardbreak" maneuver anywhere in direct language, neither how to use it or what it implies when someone else uses it. If they had one tutorial that literally went "If if you throw an unblockable, feint, then guardbreak, and the opponent tries to parry, they cannot counter the guardbreak", that would demonstrate SO MUCH about how the combat system works in that single interaction alone.
      First thing: Nowhere in the guardbreak tutorial do they cover any scenario where the guardbreak is guaranteed. They only show you how to make the input. I remember very specifically having this problem starting the game where I thought I wasn't capable of counter-guardbreaking purely from a skill perspective. I didn't think I could do the counter-input consistently. But in actuality, what was happening was I was responding to enemy moves that guaranteed their guardbreaks. Nowhere in the game taught that this was a factor.
      Secondly thing: The general idea of 50/50 is the idea of "Two or more different counters where at least one will fail". For a simplified example: The enemy performs an unblockable heavy attack. You either parry, or you don't. You parry it and they commit to the unblockable, you won that interaction. You parry and they feint-to-guardbreak instead of throwing the attack, they win the interaction. You either do the straightforward counter, or don't. I had trouble with this when I started. I could feel I didn't grasp what the "best practice" was to reliably win a fight and use a hero's kit properly. The answer I usually got was "Use the hero's kit", but the core fundamental behind that is "Force your opponent into situations they can make a wrong choice".
      Having the concept of a 50/50 clearly explained both demonstrates a key piece that someone can get confused on (why they can't counter guardbreak sometimes) and what they should do to win a fight (attack in a way that makes your opponent guess wrong). If you boil down a fight in For Honor, it's assuming what your opponent will do next. It's not a hard concept, it just needs to be explained somewhere. Hell, even some text blurbs just explaining the guaranteed-guardbreak thing and what a feint-to-guardbreak even is would suffice. I cannot stress how CONSTANTLY that move is used in a match.

    my favorite thing is that in neither iteration of the dodging tutorial do they teach you THE MOST IMPORTANT aspect of using your dodges, which is that it's a counter for dodge spam -- you can dodge attack out of light chains. that's why most people complain about light spam
    nor do they teach you what gb is used *for* & that it can't be used to counter a dodge attack on reaction. which is why dodge attacks felt so oppressive to players that they felt the need to blanket nerf them

    @6:21 bro yes please do. im a relatively new player and i was just thinking someone needs to do a 2023 version of hero tactics because i use it to try to learn new characters and its literally shit. i still remember when i first started playing and complaining to my friend that my deflect into guardbreak wasnt working in multiplayer after hero tactics taught me to do it on PK. If you do a series like that, it would also be cool to include things like the characters' max oos punish, best move for clearing minion lane, and anything else in their moveset that hero tactics doesnt tell you about, like dodge recoveries

    The only issue i have is with feinting, i cannot feint at all and so i lose more than half my fights if the enemy is playing like a goblin

    It's mind boggling that people don't use hero tactics. Especially when a new hero or a big rework comes out.. they just pick the character in multiplayer and press random buttons and everyone on their team has to suffer because of them.

    Man, this game is in shambles, its not as bad as some disheveled MMOs ive played, games like champions online or 9dragons.
    But its close to those, useless tutorials, never teaching about assassins refkex guard, useless faction war, heroes that don't work properly.
    It feels that for honor might be shutdown soon
    Whats worse is that they have a patient on the combat system, so only they can produce games like this.
    No one else can try and make a similar game and do a better job

      Yeah. It could be better. I think they should just give you a 25% troop bonus if you play a character from your faction. That way you are incentivized to not just pick the winning factions.
      That said, I actually think we could still beat Vikings as is if knights and Samurai put all their troops into fighting them. But knights see they can take a territory from samurai while they both are losing 3 to vikings and we end up weakening each other.

    We all love this game (and hate it too) but we all do know we're screaming into the void right? Ubisoft is gonna go under soon and FH is worthless to them. I legitimately believe the only save this game will get is if another company buys the IP and listens to us and keeps the game casual tailoring this game for comp play needs to be a waaaaay later concern the game should be fun first

      As a day 1 player idk what your experience is but mine has been watching this game's population steadily decline and the content both decrease in quality and frequency since season 5 never forget the battle outfit of the week and we when we regularly got unique executions it really went to hell when so many people had been shifted around that there was almost nobody from the original team and that's why so many balance failures have happened they keep swapping the people it's been a mess and clusterfuck for almost the entire time trust me

      For Honor saw a huge drop in players immediately after release, and has never again reached those highs.
      But I'm pretty sure that according to steam numbers, For Honor has slowly gained users over the course of the last 3 years.
      I think you are correct about the content getting weaker though.
      But either way, I have been hearing people say the game is dead ever since month 3 when For Honor saw like a 90% drop in players. That's the only point I was trying to make.

    My first 50 + reps i didn't even know there was ranked !
    I Liked my Characters so i grind both of them to 70 reps !
    If you stop playing a game and you came back after almost 2 years and get into Master Ranked games ! Game is Dead !
    For 2 years only 2 new Characters few minor buffs / nerfs 1 armor set 2 weapons that it all ! 600 days + ! Tell me that game is not Dead !
    I finished 4 other MMORPGS to Max Level Multiple Characters !
    I really Love The Game But There is nothing to do !
    There is not even need for rant about 2000 + hours into the game ! Balance and Characters ! Some are bad some are good like in every game !
    But There is literally nothing to do after 2 months ! You max 2/3 Characters You buy outfits etc. and there is no new Characters or outfits for 6 + Months !
