Music video by Pulp performing A Little Soul. (C) 2006 Universal Island Records Ltd. A Universal Music Company.
This song makes me cry every time. Thank you Jarvis Cocker and Pulp.
It's not just you. This Is Hardcaore is by far one of the most honest albums ever made about depression. The only down side is that I relate to it too much.
hey there! I feel the same right now. Hope it got better for you over the last 9 years
See it that way, the follow-up is about loving one's life.
I know what you mean. I had a severe anxiety attack about 10 years ago followed by a period of depression. Ever since then this album has a whole new vibe for me. Particularly The Fear.
same here, hope the last 11 years have been kind to you
This is the apology we all wanted (but never got) from our parents.
Is it me or is this one of the most underrated albums of all time?
Zorg2006 it’s not just you mate!
It's definitely not bad and very much worth stealing. Which makes it a pretty rare commodity. Sort of puts it up there with London Calling, in a way
You can drop the 'one of ' line ;)
They must not have sold their souls to the devil. Because if they have they would be known and played on every radio station.
@@TheWormzerjr I think it's more that they were never as known or appreciated outside of the UK. The singles from Different Class were huge there, but I don't think that sat well with Jarvis because This Is Hardcore was pretty much saying "fuck you" to mainstream expectations. And it's all the better for it. Too bad it also meant there was no possible way to follow it up, and their final album was inevitably disappointing.
This is one of the best songs ever written,
There's something really special about this song. Definitely one of Pulp's best.
Sweet, touching, sad, and I completely relate, as a parent.
That guitar riff at 2:22 is so great
I think that the first line of Shallow from A star is born sounds ("Tell me something boy") bloody similar to it! Can it be history?:)
this song is so beautiful... but it makes me want to cry...
There aren't many songs that can make me genuinely hurt when I hear them. This is one of them.
Exactly the same here. I rediscover this song every few years and it always has the same effect
I already loved this song but I had never seen the video before. I'm crying.
I feel like crying, that song was really touching
this song speaks to the heart
^^
it's an exemplary 'heads up' at worst
2:17 Jarvis's face is so cute ^^ The song is amazing !
Tears rolling. Sweet Jarv.
this song helps me to be better father to my children.
Helps me try, at least.
Awesome a bit of pathos in how the father hasn't been a great father but can't change..casting is brilliant
how can this song or this band grow on you? jarvis is a god and this song is amazing. no room for growers, you only need to listen and get it
Such an underrated band..
They aren’t underrated at all. They were one of the leading figures of britpop
I think, unfortunately for them, Pulp are the band most strongly associated with britpop and at the time of this albums release britpop was terminally uncool. Everyone was desperate to show they’d moved on from it and I think the band’s credibility suffered because of this. A shame because I don’t think songs like this got the recognition they deserved because of that.
And to think this stalled outside the top 20 Commercial decline was sinking in by this point sadly . Should have been as big of as a hit as Common People.
I saw Jarvis on an interview say the original idea for this video was the adults were wasted on drink and drugs, and the kids were propping them up, but they decided that was a bit too raw, so they just acted like they were tired, or lazy. And that's the real sadness isn't it, that this goes on in real life, there are kids with proper deadbeat parents, but we're too afraid to show the truth.
So true, this is one of the best videos I've ever seen. I guess the children actors only understood completely when they saw it years later. And it has such an impact because it's without drugs and stuff. Because, in real life, it's all kept silent, quite few people see what's actually going on behind the doors.
Jarvis’s father left the family home when he was only 7 years old and moved to Australia. He did manage to meet up with him many years later and had a reconciliation of sorts before he died. But he did say it was difficult meeting someone who looked so much like him but whom he knew so little about and had so little common experience to talk about.
That's the reading I made even without the drugs explicit shown on camera.
A masterpiece.
Hands up who loves the guitar solo?
YES!!!
Just the guitar sound all the way through is gorgeous. Is it Hawley? Sounds like the Longpigs, he was in them wasn’t he?
This is a really remarkable song. Jarvis is a little great genius, I do love him
2:20 pure musical bliss.....
Their best song. A masterpiece
It's not just you. Only really cool people understand the brilliance of this album.
I dedicate this to my daughter. I’m sorry for disappointing you darling. I’m glad you’re doing well.
Obviously influenced by 'tracks of my tears'. Love pulp
It happens mostly at the beggining of the song, but then, the song is its own thing. Same with disco 2000, the riff's exactly like "Gloria" (Umberto Tozzi), then ot differs a lot.
And his son looks just like him. What a great and moving song.
Beautiful, incredible and moving song.
I never noticed how much this reminded me of oft-covered Big Star’s “Thirteen” at the beginning
I did what was wrong though I knew what was right. Genious.
very touching
their songs are describing reality... love them until now...
the guitar bit that starts at 2:22 really tops the song proper.
jarvis cocker is genius
he looks so beautiful in the 3:04 part
If there is one thing I can be glad for in this life, and believe me that it is but one, I have not brought anyone else into it to suffer. I can only be thankful that there is nobody who looks like me; nobody that I can wish won't turn out like me.
Same here.
Same here
. My line has died out and it needed to.
jarvis cocker is awsome what more do i need to say
People tell me I’m a good dad. I think I’m doing my best. But I hear this song, and think about my boy, and I worry.
I think there one of the most underrated bands of all time . Great band never big here in Australia. It's not just you . ❤❤😂😂❤ Sydney aus. 4/8/2023
wow i cried, methinks life hasnt gone how i planed, wish i could show a little soul
I had 1, 2, 3......4 shots at happiness. What a superbly sad lyric!
Best Pulp clip. Seriously.
Yes, yes, yes... 🎼
such a beautiful song
every year this song makes me cry a little more
Ive been listening to Pulp for well over 25 years but never watched the videos. This one, like This Is Hardcore has made me look at the song in a different way. Although with both i think it really repreents what the words say and not the video.
If you imagine Bruce Springsteen singing this you'll never be able to unhear it..... and now that you heard my say it you are basically screwed.
this song took me a minute to get into, but now i love it!
A whole minute!!!!
masterpiece.
one of THE.....I got this album in my vinyl collection for nearly 10 years and only recently discovered the pure intense beauty of songs like these.....
It takes life experience and time to feel the depth of some songs..
This being one..
Genius
Such a sad song
Breaking my heart
Excellent song, yes, we need change.... ourselves...
Some music critics said when pulp brought out the album this is hardcore that they were committing commercial suicide it just shows you what critics no not much the album is full of great songs like this

讓人聽了好感動 :'(

This has a "Lost for words" by Pink Floyd vibe. It's really sad but pleasant.
This song is about his dad, right?
Never explicitly said so but one need only to hear the song once to come to that conclusion. Those who don't know, just Google Mac Cocker

Yes, for me too
Am I the only one to think it's sounds like a Dire Straits song? Nothing negative about that, i love that song.
Dire Straits? 😳
Yeh I see where you're coming from, for a nanosecond the slide guitar sounds a bit like the one on So Far Away, it's the similar sort of vibe from the Brothers in Arms album. But Pulp have really brilliant percussion, Dire Straits has horrible 80s whack a mole snare drums.
i think its a cross between tracks of my tears and romeo and juliet
For me this song sounds like the dire straits song "Hand in Hand"
you look like me but you´re not me
Whose coming to Warrington!

🍑HisHers + DiffClass + Hardcore 🍓Glad I was keen to these 3 🍒 So unfortunate my friends & ex’s never Drowned in this Pool of Gorgeousness 🥭I tried …
This sounds weird but I feel like the dad and the son : /
Do you suppose he spends his days emailing his investment advisors from his lovely desk in front of a large picture window overlooking the shores of Lake Geneva, Lucerne, or Como? And his neighbour is one of the guys from Depeche Mode or New Order?
