I remember thinking that, but for the colors, they looked very screen accurate. Nice work.

Sorry to anyone who had questions. I haven't looked at my channel in months. The last spray was a varnish. Pause the video where I show what sprays I used. The chrome was a paint I picked up at AutoZone. The sound in these is okay. I didn't buy them for the sound or lights. I have my "hero" prop and that's an Art Asylum type with sounds and lights and removable hand phaser. These blue phasers were purchased for less than $10 each. I wanted a display like the phaser locker in the "Galileo 7" episode. I've thought that was cool since I was about 5 years old. Thought I'd make my own, but I wasn't willing to pay about $60-75 a pop per phaser to make it. No reason to add lights and worry about screw holes and such. The display is in my office as a conversation piece. It's in a glass case; it doesn't pull out of the wall (yet). So far only one person knew what they were without me telling them. LOL

The last spray is a clear coat. The silver tape wasn't silver tape. I masked off the areas that were chrome to spray it. Peeled off that tape was then painted sliver. I just forgot to take video of that chrome painting step! Oops!

I've often wondered why Rubies used this strange color choices for this prop. Very odd.

The cost of the Rubies phasers have went up a bit. They're closer to $20 vs. less than $10 when I bought them a few years ago. For me to buy another one or two and then prep them and sell them with shipping and all, they'd be the same price as buying an Art Asylum one off of ebay. And then if I mark it up a bit for my time, they'd be more. If you just want a couple of them, watch them on ebay. You can get them for an average price of about $35 a piece. I've seen them as low as $10 out of the box, though.

Hey that is AWESOME! I just bought one so I could do this but I wanted to know the sound effects... I was wondering if you could show a review on how the sound is...

not to get picky but you took the time to repaint why not fill in the screw holes and change out the emitter for a clear one? maybe add a LED?

it does seem though you did jump a few steps with the black showing up without it put into the video. Is there more tutorial to this at all? please :-)

There's no more footage of what I did. You pretty much paint the whole thing gray. Then mask off the different areas with tape and respray another color, either black or chrome. If you make a huge mistake, just respray with the gray and start over.

@@imabodybuilder How many days did it take? Like do it all gray, then dry over night? Then the next color? I also saw at the ending the tape didn't hold on keeping the number gauge thing? :-/

@@rebekahfolsom6022 If I remember correctly from 9 years ago, I did all of these in one or two weekends. Overnight is fine, but it's usually dry to the touch in a few hours and you can tape off the for the next layer. Depends on your climate. Less humidity makes it dry faster. I did 5 of these at once and all the gauges turned out fine.
