Instead of dips, for those of you who have bad shoulders like me,
Try doing decline bench press, with a more narrow, not exactly close grip though.

If you're going for strength, bruh, then you should try benching like a powerlifter. Dig the toes into the ground, get a lumbar arch, take a deep breath at the top of the rep and do not let it go for the entirety of the rep. Keep that core tight for the whole rep. Core collapse = failed rep. Get the hands in more narrow... about one thumb off of the smooth part of the barbell. You'll be repping 335 in no time. Throw some rep board training in to make it dynamic and you'll put your bench through the roof.
That is technique. It helps you bench more, but does not make you stronger than any other setup. It is just helps you gain mechanical advantage.
Baldó Buczi If that were true, then everyone employing that technique would be benching 800 lbs. But they're not. Only power lifters are. That should tell you something. Having a lumbar curve retracts the scapula and places the load almost squarely on your pecs. Bazinga.
Matt Williams Actually it is just shortens the range of motion.
Baldó Buczi That would be true if I lower the bar to my abdomen, but I don't. I lower it to my chest, which is pinned to the bench. And even if it reduces the ROM, it's such a small amount as to be insignificant.
Matt Williams, you seem confused man. simply retracting your scapula reduces the ROM by like 4 inches man, that's a lot. and then if you lower it to your abdomen, you can reduce it by like another 4 inches.
