As a concerned parent I try and find as much information as I can about the various issues my son has. So I did your questionnaire, reuslts were as expected. There are a few questions that can be associated with other issues such as Autism and ADHD, of which my son has both. He also has a handfull of speech impediment diagnoses, making it difficult to know what is part of his AuDHD, speech issue or if it's dyslexia. Or all of the above. Propably all of the above. 2nd grade starts next week and I need to be fully prepared on what to discuss with this teachers and how to best set up a plan for success. He's already showing symptoms of poor selfesteem and confidence, and I want to nip that in the bud before it develops into something more, like anxiety or depression. Your videos have been really helpful.

Glad to help. Yes the exact cause is probably impossible to discern. There's a lot of crossover. Your decision to work on self--esteem and confidence is absolutely the best starting point. Develop those and limitations go away. We know so much more about confidence building now than even a few years ago. So many great techniques are known now. Good for you! Love to here from engaged parents

A lot of these tests assume that the child can read and write, but we are still stuck on books for 5 year olds because of the struggles with blending and mistaking letters etc. kids who are in this age group today in the U.K. are the ones who missed most of Nursery and Reception due to covid so the schools keep blaming that, but surely they should be catching up by now?! Especially if interventions in school are in place to help with reading and writing. My daughter even has private tutoring once a week and we have the Reading Eggs and ABC Mouse apps to try and make things a bit more fun than just reading books or doing games with flash cards or on whiteboards. I’m really struggling to get anyone to take me seriously

My daughter missed out on nursery and preschool due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She was only 3 years old at the time. Although she loves to read, she is struggling at school now that she is in Year 2. I am worried that she will still be behind by Year 3. I am planning to look for extra tutoring for her in the UK. Have you come across any online resources that have worked well for children who need extra help with their studies?

@@brightpeople23 have you tried reading eggs, abc mouse, alphablocks, cbeebies playtime island etc? I’ve not found anything more structure that’s worked for us.
There’s a website called the dyslexia shop and I’ve started buying some books from there. I don’t know if my daughter has dyslexia or something else, but she seems to be getting on better with those books. You could give the book A Twist of Tales by Julia Donaldson a go and see how she gets on. There’s some tricky words in there, so we have had to read it together, but it’s much more interesting than the books they send home from school.

3 or more out of 20? That's a bit vague

Hi, my daughter never learned to read. Some of these questions are related to reading issues. What to do?
