I've seen some producers glue their kicks together using a limiter instead of a glue compressor, depends on what you're going for but for techno I think it sounds better when they're smashed together. Great video as always Zen!
Thank you so much for such a detailed tutorial on techno kicks!❤ I write down all the information into my notebook. This will definitely help me become a better producer😁 Can't believe you can get content like this for free🥹😯 Hope you don't mind that I've added this to my playlist! Many many thanks! You are the best🎉❤
Hey man, thanks for this!! I‘d reeeeally appreciate the sidechain tutorial you talked about today on stream. Would help me tremendously as a techno newbie (especially for peak time where there‘s usually a prominent, wide rolling bass)
As a FL Studio user, ableton looks really great for electronic music :) Wish you would show this in FL, but anyway, still good information for other DAW user! Great Video
Hey Zen Great Tutorial mate!! , its so many ways , Sam Wolfe has one of best way to do , Umek also and many producers , i also try different type of reverb really unique staff i get from black hole eventide reverb but layering is key and fx on top of that with hyper stretching or hyper warping samples to create nice texture on background out of space , Thx Love your tutorials you are top sound designer I learn a lot from you and you have great present packs for synths to get started :-) 🔥🔥🔥
Worth noting that if you're going for a more "analog" sounding kick for emulating the subtle nuance of oldschool drum machines/drum synths -or just love the Detroit Techno kick sound- the retrig on the kick may be working against you. Analog drum synths and drum machines rarely if ever produced the exact same waveform every time due to the natural of analog oscillators being imperfect.
i followed the exact ssame instructions and couldnt reproduce the same kick the decay on the kick played in the video is total different than mine.🤷🏼♂
Thanks for this one! One question.I am sometimes not sure how to set the compressor settings for more punch. But in general understanding you use a higher AT and (very) short Release or am I wrong?
The higher attack is gonna allow the compressor to slap in the beginning and the faster release is gonna take it away. You can also check your threshold and the knee as he mentioned.
Haha examples? When I'm done with Paradox and am Bored I can try it out but I assume more distortion and also formant based EQS to shift the distortion
@@ZenWorld I'm really into the more raw stuff atm so artists like Rebelion, Vertile, Malice or Delete ( R.I.P legend) would be useful to research for gated kicks. Gated kicks are very different to make than the more traditional crunchy kicks. Basically it is just adding reverb to a sound, most likely a kick sample or a punch you made, recording the reverb tail and then playing around with it, stacking it and seeing what kind of sounds it makes etc. It is a strange process lol. Surprisingly a lot of distortion is not needed in the process, if at all. If you are interested I would highly suggest you check out this tutorial to get a general idea ua-cam.com/video/Np1IvnVngAk/v-deo.html by Nebiri Music. He makes really helpful tutorials for hardstyle production in general. He has other great tutorials on gated kicks too so you might want to check them out too.
I'll give a couple of tracks for examples too though to give an idea. Simulation by Rebelion & Vertile has some nice gated kicks. Also The new normal by Vertile has some of the sickest kicks ever, the anti-climax kick here is probably one of my favorites ever. Really like his stuff in general. DMN8 by So Juice, especially the first kick, and any kick that Delete ever made is elite.
For those who are patient enough to follow me into this journey I COMMEND YOU because making KICKS IS SUPER FINICKY!!!
I was literally waiting for this for years! Thanks g
I follow you like 3 or 4 years..Too bad you dont work in Fl, great video Sam 💪
Sam Wolf is a great producer. Almost as good as Zen.

splendid upload Zen World. I smashed the thumbs up on your video. Continue to keep up the very good work.

Great Video
Dude shift over to Ableton, I was an avid FL user for ages and Ableton is just so much more straight forward
Use patcher to make a kick rack in Fl bro
Ableton is amazing
Funny I was just messing around with techno kicks last night and you upload this today. Weird 😂

B-but Zen, I thought layering 5 kicks and putting OTT is the way for Umek kicks?

Okay now make a gated kick for hardstyle 😉
