As a proud Black, Christian American, I am opposed to the Bill for posting the 10 Commandments in the school because it is a violation of the 1st Amendment. I think that by doing that, they would NEED to allow ALL other Religions to be posted, and that will inevitably cause problems. Always does.

    • @AppleStrawberryLove
      @AppleStrawberryLove 4 місяці тому +185

This. As a pagan, it's super frustrating when I raise this issue and I get the excuse they're only focusing on Christianity because "to not include it would be discriminatory." As if they're not discriminating by not allowing other religions to be seen or celebrated. There's more than one way to show prejudice. Discrimination is the obvious one but there also unjust enrichment. When one group gets something (visibility, money, seats at the table, etc) that no one else gets, you are showing favoritism and being discriminatory against everyone who didn't get that favor. It makes me angry. Because you know if any other religion asked for this sort of acknowledgment, they'd be rejected. If I asked for the Delphic Maxims to be posted in schools, I would be told no because "not everyone believes in the Greek gods. Posting them would be forcing your beliefs on others."
And this doesn't even touch on how the people doing this don't realize that the reason why there is that divide isn't just that colonists came here for religious freedom. It's also because some of the founding fathers themselves weren't that religious. Jefferson was far less religious than many realize. He literally made his own edit of the Bible because he thought Jesus was better studied as a philosopher than worshipped as part of a divine being. Jefferson was far more of a deist or agnostic than what would count as Christian.

I’m an oceanographer who works with deep sea data and with other deep sea scientists. One of the most terrifying points that an advisor pointed out to me is that the current plan for deep sea mining would dump sediment over the entire deep sea from about halfway through the water column, suffocating deep sea and mid sea organisms. This would also create so much noise in a layer of the water column that propagates noise very well, and is used by whales to communicate. If this was done in the proposed scale, there would be no place in the ocean where one couldn’t hear this activity…a truly dystopian concept…

My entire confusion on this ISA is precisely what the US is missing out on, here
As long as the US is not a signatory, what exactly is stopping it from issuing its own contracts for exploration or derp-sea mining?
I suppose the ISA could monopolize data and expertise by refusing to work with any company that contracts to non-signatories?

I live in Louisiana. We rank the worst in almost every metric that matters compared to other states (education, healthcare, obesity, crime rate, etc.) Our politicians don't care about our residents. They put out stupid shit like this all the time (bills against transgenders, crack downs on libraries, bills about abortion, bills against diversity at universities, etc.) Our state needs to pay teachers, invest in healthcare, invest in childcare and youth. This bill is a stupid waste of time and money that will have no real benefit for any school children and it is a clear violation of separation of church and state.

I hate how blatant people can be with just not giving a shit about laws and more about having power, and people just don't see an issue. Literally, there is something about separation of religion and school, and they are trying to push one dude praying to himself at a game as to why they should force everyone to "proudly" display a religious set of rules you know for damn sure most of them don't follow in the schools for all ages.

the US laws forcing schools to have the 10 commandments up in public schools seems so fucked up, the fact the US has gotten to this point where a LARGE portion of the government is deeply religious when the separation of church and state is literally a foundational law of the country makes no sense to me. i went to catholic school in Canada, and even worked for that school board for a short while, the only way you could tell it was a religious school was a small cross(15cm tall) on a random wall of each class and 1 or 2 small posters with a generic prayer in 1 or 2 common spaces like cafeteria or library. we had a wide variety of different religion kids in the schools and in the late 2010s the school board had even started looking at ways to accommodate non catholic kids better, like letting kids stay at school during the yearly easter mass or quite space for kids to pray or do other ceremonies for their specific religion. I just deeply do not understand how the US government can just slowly decay and become a puppet of the church with no checks or balances. if a small catholic school in northern canada can do better than the US government something has gone terribly terribly wrong.

As someone who has grown up in Mississippi this increasing lack of separation of church and state is beyond worrying. Kids already get indoctrinated at an alarming rate here. I had so much conservative propaganda shoved down my throat at such an early age and it lasted all throughout my time at school. I was a weird, bisexual, goth kid which made me a massive target for harassment and bullying from students and faculty. I literally got accused of witchcraft and got brought into the principal office for supposedly helping someone curse a girl. They had the joke of a spell and I asked if they had read the weight loss spells in there yet. Like it was nothing but those kind of light hearted spells. My friend gave it to me because I was curious about Wicca at the time. I could see the principal realizing that they had nothing they could do to me over it and they let me go. I would hate to know what they would have done if they had been allowed to act under their own beliefs. During my time at a private Christian school we were forced to black out any mention of evolution in our textbooks so we couldn’t even read it in our own time. The public schools brushed past the subject as well. I was shocked to discover just how much evidence there actually is for it. I was also had blatant misinformation presented as fact about abortion. Our sad excuse for “sex education” was also full of misinformation. We have to keep religion out of schools. I have seen the effects this constant misinformation has had on the people I’ve grown up with. Unless they’re born an outcast like I was they don’t ever learn about the truth of anything.

So a few things on the league skin:
    1. RIOT claims this is supposed to be a celebration for players to take part in. Except that celebration starts at a minimum of $20, and doesn't include the Ahri skin.
    2. When teams win Worlds in League, there's a set of skins released based on champions each player played that those players get to choose. Faker chose Ahri, but RIOT had him change to another character as they had these plans for Ahri. Fans have been waiting for the T1 (the team Faker plays for) Ahri skin for a long time now, and there's a sour taste in our mouths that the skin we've been waiting for costs a minimum of $50.
    3. We've slowly watched RIOT keep pushing the envelope of what they can get away with when it comes to charging for cosmetics. This is just the latest (and by far the most expensive by a large margin) and it's building up a lot of disdain for a game and company we've all loved. It's like the Disney effect. Disney has been offering their consumers less but charging more for it. RIOT's actually been doing the same, increasing the cost of skins while also taking away things that make them worth that much, primarily new effects (they've reused effects to cut corners, and some new effects are just awful looking) as well as things like custom animations. They've been doing this for a while now and it's starting to hit all of the player base's tipping points.
There's more, but I don't want to type an essay. Long story short though is that RIOT has been steadily giving players less while charging more money for years now and outright lying to us players about what they can and can't do. We're just slowly watching the game and company we love degrade over time and it's extremely disappointing.

The country has been moving away from God for a very long time and certain Christians are very desperately trying to stop it. They should probably read the bible again though because it literally says all of this stuff is going to happen. It says wickedness will consume the world, people will shun religion, they'll take the mark of the beast (microchip implants) and worship the beast (technology) instead of God. In regards to the story about the League of Legends skin:
The thing about "just cosmetics" is that it is a social game as well as a competitive one. Having a more "premium" skin is something that people put their own personal value in and kind of use as a social currency in popular games. This is why Overwatch and Fortnite also have huge skin markets: It's not about just having the thing look cool to the player who owns and uses the skin, it's about a message that says either "look how cool I am in this skin" or "look how long I've been playing that I own this thing that's no longer available" or "look how much money I have that I can get the most expensive stuff"
The social pressure of not being a "default" (which if I remember correctly was a word used by kids to bully kids who still used the "default dance" in Fortnite) is a big part of being in the cool circles of schools, friend groups, or any other group that can exclude based on income.
That, and because Faker is such a well respected and liked player, Riot knows well that people are more inclined to splurge for it, even if the skin doesn't do things that would be worth the price tag attached to it.

Slight correction about the Ahri skin- we don't actually know how much of the revenue will be going directly to Faker. The FAQ only states that 30% will go towards his team/organization. While it's true that Faker most likely has one of if not the highest paying contract in esports, we have no idea what his cut is for this particular skin.
As far as the community outrage, Riot has been pushing the boundaries of what they can charge for cosmetics for a while now. Not long ago there was an incident where Riot released a $200 skin that was, essentially, a slight recolor of an existing one. Riot has been majorly slacking with cosmetics in general recently- the majority of skins released in the last few months had multiple reused assets from other skins and champions. They are continuing to raise prices while slowly reducing quality.
The battle pass system is also pay to win this time around. The pass for this event costs ~20% more than every pass before it, and it has 100 levels. To grind out those levels manually would mean playing league like it's a full time job for the duration of the event. So, to further inflate the cost of the $500 Ahri skin bundle, they made it so that buying the bundle automatically unlocks all 100 levels. This is by far the scummiest thing Riot has tried to shill to players, IMO. All of this content will be limited edition, never to be seen again, and so far it seems like there is no way to get any of it just by playing the game. Honestly, it's an insult not only to the community, but to Faker.

I think the major factor here isn't the skin price. IMO riot can price skins however they want. There is no real difference in value between a $10 skin and a $500. They are all "donations" to riot anyway.
What I think is scummy is the wildpass and that the skin is a limited time event (Why are the hall of fame skins limited, Fakers will still in the hall of fame 6 months from now). This makes it a FOMO situation and pushes it from an expensive luxury item into predatory marketing IMO.

*I'm glad the MLB is revamping its records. First, I want to point out, that, cameras were alot more rare back then, and I hope recordings of games still exist, so that those of us who missed out, can watch some of these legencary players shine in their sport. My only (very slight) hangup is, though there's no doubt these players had talent and earned every stat, I'm wondering if the other players in that league were "up-to-par" and if those stats aren't slightly padded by lack of competition (playing against the Yankees etc), BUT, that said, that's the MLBs fault, not the players, and stats should be counted, AS IS.*

Oh they definitely weren't, the stats are definitely padded/biased which is why there's backlash. But many people (especially on a channel like this) see it as acceptable bias because it's happening "to the right group."

I''m an old Path of Exile player, a "free" game that you may have heard of. Every new league they have a variety of supporter packs that range from 50 bucks to close to 500 dollars (they currently have a supporter pack for $480). These supporter packs are mostly cosmetic and or provide some forum titles as well, although I believe the most expensive supporter pack typically lets you suggest some content for the game. For example, the most recent supporter pack allows you to suggest map designs that'll be used in a certain content in the next league, while previous ones allowed you to write custom text when opening a certain reliquary chest. The reason I bring this up is to show that there are other games with ridiculously expensive items or bundles, but as the name suggests, they are "supporter packs". They're to show your support for a "free" game. People who love the game, want to play it more, and are financially able to do so can support it as much as they want, at least it keeps a fun game going.

    • @BusinessSkrub

Right, I might think that to buy the 2.5k supporter pack that lets you decide some item later on is absolutely braindead, but I support peoples' ability to make that choice and feel good about it. If you feel like you're supporting, spend your money. If you just need need need, maybe don't.

$500 for a single skin in a game made by a company that posted 1.5 billion dollars in revenue last year, versus $480 for ingame armour skins, hideout + decorations, ingame currency, forum title and frames, spell effects, pets, a soundtrack, a signed art pack, clothing merch and the option of actually adding something to the game. All to support a company that posted ~83 million dollars in revenue last year. They're not even close to being in the same dimension.

WF has released some questionable bundles in the past, and is definitely guilty of inflating bundle costs with fluff items no one would typically purchase, but there's so much content that is completely accessible for free that it's hard to be seriously angry. There was the Federal League, American Association, Union Association, and Players’ League too. In 1969 a committee came together and recognized these leagues as well in the MLB records. Leaving Negro League stats out of MLB records, while recognizing those long gone leagues, would simply be an extension of the segregation of baseball.

Phil the problem with the cost of the skins is the dangerous precedent it sets for gaming companies who then take it as a green light to implement similar practices. We have seen this through all monetization practices. If there is only limited push-back it will end up in all games from F2P to AAA which will inherently incentivize game companies to put more effort into the expensive skins than the game itself.

Minor clarification: a federal grand jury is the first step to bringing an *indictment* against someone. The other method of charging defendants with felony crimes is via an information, which does not require a grand jury (but it does require the defendant to waive their right to a grand jury). Both informations and indictments can also start as complaints, neither of which require a grand jury or a waiver of rights. Complaints will almost always turn into either an information or indictment, unless the defendant pleads down to misdemeanor crimes, but they are technically the most frequent way that prosecutors initially bring charges against someone in federal court. @@memegazer Or Israel could just respect international laws and people who have lived there for generations, and allow the people they terrorized to return as they were allowed to return. Israel was supposed to be a home for the Jews in Palestine not a state we fund to keep other nations fighting.

It doesn't matter at what point you speak out, you've spoken out. If we chastise those for taking so long to speak out we can end up alienating them. One more voice in protest to what is going on is one more voice.

The Baseball thing. Easy Fix. Make two categories along division lines, post scores in each column. Add a header that essential says "due to MLB policy and laws governing regulatory bodies at the time these are two separate charts by two separate leagues. Noone can know what the scores would be had those seperations not existed, we still choose to include them because of the great contribution to baseball every division submitted." ANd ideally, "we apologize for segregating by race and since (Insert year here) we have strived to not divide teams by race but instead by ability." (Edit" fixing autocorrect)

I’m wondering if Taylor isn’t talking about it because she’s on a world wide tour. And if someone disagrees with her stance, it could get dangerous, like if someone were to take their anger out on an Eras Tour show… if you catch my drift.

She's spoken out against trump and his policies despite the fact that doing so could jeopardize her safety. If her intention was not alienating anyone or to stay neutral, then she shouldn't have spoken out against Trump or endorsed Biden during the 2020 election. Her silence just demonstrates that she has no empathy for the Palestinians.

If a school is going to allow religion in to their building, it must allow ALL religions, not just the ones they agree with.
It is awesome to hear that the MLB will finally be properly updating all of their records to account for those leagues.

For the story about Ukraine - if US weapons are okay to use against Palestinians in Gaza, they should be okay to use against Russia.
Otherwise that's quite the chunk of hypocrisy going on.
