Of the NS songs that became covers, I never really liked Sedaka's own version--until this. It's really good. And that's saying a lot because I LOVE The Fifth Dimension.
For years I was in love with Patti Drew's version, such sensuality and soul. Its amazing to hear that Neil's version has just as much soul and sensuality to it!
I was reading the comments on The 5th Dimension version and found out that Neil Sedaka had written this song. Naturally I had to listen because I'm also a Sedaka fan.
Neil is one of the writers of this song. Note the beginning notes of it are very similar to the opening notes of 'Oh No, Not My Baby', which was written by Carole King in early 60's. Brill building osmosis?
oranbbop1 Neil wrote some of his early songs about Carol King. They were neighbors... Right Next Door to an Angel, Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen and I think there where a couple more.
Better than the 5th Dimension - It sounds like Patti just got her version from Neil's demo - this is 1969 but I haven't heard Neil's 1967 demo version - Love this
I love his BREAKING UP IS HARD TO DO (SLOW VERSION) but for me, the original Working on a Groovy Thing by 5th Dimension is the ultimate. Reminds me of Ocean City MD the Summer I heard it (yeah, I'molder than trilobites). By 1969 even the word "groovy" was dated.
@@hdlc4635 Thank you very much for that. I tend to go with whatever I heard first due to the "memories" factor, but her version was awesome also, and also every bit as h-h-h-hawwwttt looking as Marilyn McCoo (why can't I have them both? It's my childhood memory of muy romantica music and delicious women where I had NO IDEA at the time how much of a minimum estimator my idea of what women would be like was relative to what it became once I was ready! I hope I'll live forever, but I'll die happy with my memories).
I didn't know that he wrote this too! He is so talented.

Neil Sedaka!!!!
Neil was a masterpiece himself
A truly beautiful song ❤
Fantastic ❤
i think i love all the versions. Neil is off the dial talented as a writer. He makes it easy for an artist. Effortless really.
Neil Is The Man! Love This!
NEVER HEARD NEIL SING THIS THANKS
This is a surprise. Not a bad version either.

He sounds like Diana Ross!! But the 5th Dimension recorded it instead. Both are in my 5D playlist. Thanks for the upload!
Sweet sweet sweet sweet !

Mama Cass & The Temptations & Andy Williams , Version on Andy Williams Show!
@@ninja51ify, you forgot Don Ho!
Here's a man who remains true to his falsetto!
Only thing is it's not falsetto. That's his real voice.
What a great song. Beautiful arrangement too. Better than the more famous covers of it.
Freaking Awesome. So talented. I love him.
EVERYTHING ABOUT THESE SONGS IS GREAT BECAUSE YOU CAN UNDERSTAND THEM..
great version by the songwriter.
Not until recently did I hear this version - and from the man who wrote it! Thanks for letting me know these things!
BEAUTIFUL SONG THANKS SINCE QUITO
Love this Version too
Genius.
By far this is a way better version, so smooth, great post, I can’t find this version anywhere but on this site… great post!!!!
I did not know Neil covered this song.
He wrote it.
This version is way better than the other recordings
Hard to make a mess of this. Very catchy tune.
Awesome 😎

oranbbop1 It also has a similar opening to his other Brill Building hit...Laughter in the Rain (Walking hand in hand with the one I love).

I'm used to the 5th Dimension version but I like this one too :)
They’re all badass, but 5th dimension is my favorite. Neil’s is so fucking good though.

Very obscure, but terrific, version of "Workin' On A Groovy Thing" by Neil Sedaka.

Patti Drew recorded the original

Don’t forget the other lady in the 5th Florence LaRue - a goddess in her own right.
Neil Sedaka is one soulful Jew!
The composer's version.
David Cassidy sang on the show
Great song but with a different tempo than the 5th D version.
Nefis parça...
😎🚬
Patti drew took it somewhere else but Neil did a great job
In my humble opinion this version would have been the best hands down but it ran a bit too long
Nice song, good performance but WAY too much REVERB!!
Good but I like the Fifth Dimension better.
Way better.
Patti Drew sings it best good thing the song writer sold it I'd pass on NS
