- Matt is way out west in Wyoming, goose hunting in the shadow of the mountains. It turns out to be an amazing hunt with Matt bagging a beautiful Quill Lake goose and his first limit of Wyoming geese. Not many more beautiful places to hunt than this.

Congratulations Sawyer, congratulations Matt on the Quill. For the first time in 9 years I'm getting to take my boy on his first hunt. I bet Frosty is a tickled proud dad.
That's awesome! Hope y'all do good!
Good job kid! And good job Dad for teaching him.
Always good to see the next generation getting outdoors
Congrats on the Quill! Love that area, great hunt guys!

Thanks! Carlson's Long Range Choke
@@HighPrairieSportsmen Thank you 🤝
Congratulations on the rare bird
Thanks!
The place is a heaven ....
Yes it is
That was a great shot @ 6:10 on the quill......which I have never heard of before. Funny that you called the goose hit in the air with blood on it! How was your audio so clear when you were talking in that high wind???
Thanks! I have a screen on my GoPro which helps with the wind shear. Also the Hero 8s have multiple mics and and automatically uses the clearest one while recording.
Great! Was the one goose bigger than Sawyer?! Good call by moving based on their flight pattern.
It was a big goose for sure!
That was awesome, 2, I repeat 2 geese with one shot from a 28 gauge. Wow. The quill was a great bonus to get. Never heard of them. A cup mount or flair?
Haha thanks! I was actually using my 12 gauge on this hunt. Haven't decided yet on it.
Very awesome I like hunting from My childhood I want hunting with you
Thanks!
Really wanted to see the Shotkam footage of the double 😰
Me too. Don't know if the Shotkam died or I didn't tap it enough
@@HighPrairieSportsmen great hunt anyway!
Nice video I would have been hard pressed not to be hunting that water to begin with.
Thanks! We set up in the meadow first because it was loaded with sign and that's where they had been using. The next day we set up on the pond.
What a hunt, Matt! That Quill is beautiful, but what’s even better was watching a young kid enjoy his first goose! He’ll never forget it. Keep it up boss.
Thanks!
What did you think about Wyoming? I’m thinking about relocating from central Indiana. Would love a great waterfowl state. Tell me what you thought
Beautiful scenery. Not sure how the access is for public land there
Out of your state home hunt. Must be nice to continue hunting elsewhere. Congratulations on Quill goose or isn’t it hybrid?
Thanks Cooper! It's just called a Quill Lake goose commonly. In actuality, it's just a Canada with something called neural cresting disorder.
@@HighPrairieSportsmen just looked up online, they said it came from Saskatchewan where Quill lake is and the recessive gene had somehow became dominant gene, passing on white crested to next generation. Interesting.
Unbelievable, Goose hunting in Wyoming. I’ve hunted Geese in California and Maryland but never heard of a Quill. Also I’m a traditionalist, don’t think much of your Quill. Do love your videos thou, Thanks
Appreciate it. It's just cool to get something different like a Quill as they're fairly rare.
The goose is bigger than him, taking the younger generation for a hunt that's awesome .
It was a big goose for sure!
👍👍👍👍👍👍
👍🏻
U should get both the birds mounted as like a pair
I already ate the other one haha.
shock what are you using
Remington Versamax
Great hunt I don't know what all the fuss is about these so called quill lake geese, all it is is a domestic white goose that bred with a Canada. You see them every once in a while in different parts of the country and Canada !
Thanks! That's actually not what a Quill is. It's a lack of pigmentation caused by neural cresting disorder. Basically a type of piebaldism, which is fairly rare
Yes I understand your theory, but there really is no way to prove that. I mean with the pink feet and all some of your tame geese will have pink feet ! I have seen all white looking mallards, slender just like a wild mallard flys with wild mallards but you see them hanging around domestic ducks some could fly good some not. I have shot a few over the years that were different colors not true mallard colors. So I don't know you might be right ,or it could be a cross breed between Canada and domestic goose. Either way its different!
I swear to god I seen that goose like two week before you shot it in the same area
That's crazy!
Hey I do some taxidermy I would love to do that bird.
Appreciate it. He's already at a local taxidermist though
@@HighPrairieSportsmen 👍 if you want anything else mounted I could do it.
Not so sure what's so great about these so called Quill lake honkers, they are found in every flyway, not just from quill lake area, it's just a color mutation
That’s like saying not sure what’s so great about a mallard pintail cross, there found in every fly line, it’s just a hybrid. LOL there still rare to shoot more rare than a band even. We shot just over 1300 birds last season and we only shot one Quill
Quill lake goose is just the commonly-accepted name given to Canadas/cacklers with neural cresting disorder. They're cool because they're something different and fairly rare.

I wasn't trying to insult any one, I don't put any value in bands or horns either, can't eat them
@@scottulbrich5376 no worries. It's just something different
Very poor decision to take a shot right over the kids head and way out of your zone Matt. Do better. So sick of hearing you say how many you got in your videos. You’re quite the claimer and clearly more interested in clicks and limits than safety. Disappointing.
You obviously have no clue what I'm about. I only say how many I have or claim birds so others know what I have and expect them to do the same so as to follow the law regarding party hunting. I don't care about clicks or limits. You're right I made a mistake and can only try to do better in the future
