It is Bruce Soo-ter according to broadcasters, players who have said his name in interviews, his hall of fame induction announcement, his obituary on the St. Louis local news, and his Wikipedia page. Also - MLB expansion began in 1961. National League expansion began in 1962 with the Mets and Colt .45s.
For those wondering the hard photo is Forbes Field (where the Pirates use to play)and the photo is taken from the Cahedral of Learning on Pitt's campus in Pittsburgh. And every year people will get together at the spot (there's a monument),and will relive the 1960 game by listening to the radio broadcast in its entirety.
Wait, that's cooool. I've somehow never seen that photo before, never mind knowing it's considered one of the great baseball shots of all-time. I'm not a Bucs fan but I now want to join that little anniversary event someday, just as a baseball guy. For me, getting this one right was all about recognizing Forbes Field. No other stadium looked like it, mostly due to its insanely deep center field plus the sprawl of vegetation behind left field as opposed to seating or city structures. From there, it's easy: what other event from that era would evoke such a response (and create the setting for such a photo)? The Maz homer!
Oh man, that Ted Williams photo is in my wheelhouse. He joined the military right after the 1942 season and went to pilot school, but he never actually flew missions in WWII. He mostly played baseball at the Great Lakes Naval Base and then later in Hawaii. That plane he is in is a jet. WWII was all prop planes so that's not a WWII era plane. He did fly combat missions in the Korean War in a jet. So the photo had to be from then. He flew in the Korean War in 1953 and 1954, so had to be one of those years. Was also pretty sure that photo from high up of a stadium was Forbes Field because in the 1951 movie "Angels in the Outfield" they have an opening shot of Forbes Field and the University of Pittsburgh's cathedral is a dominating structure right next to the stadium. It's the only field back then where a shot of fans from that high up would make sense.
He only flew in Korea in 1953. He was on active duty 1952 and 1953. The ceasefire was in 1953. (not trying to be a dick btw. I've watched a number of your videos!)
I was at my parent's house yesterday and my dad was watching Wheel of Fortune reruns. Believe it or not this mf'er Ryan was a contestant i think this was two years ago.
Little disappointed in Jake for not knowing the year on the Jeter dive into the stands. It was also the same game where John Flaherty earned a lifetime gig at YES Network.
Suggestions for future episodes...Fisk waving at the ball, Sid Bream sliding safely into home, a photo from Reggie Jackson's 3 home-run game, a famous game at the LA Coliseum, Willie Mays' over-the-head catch, the year George Bell and Andre Dawson won MVP, the year Dave Righetti and Fernando Valenzuela won Rookie of the Year.
god i love how they phrase ted williams going to war as "they sent him to war," as if kennesaw mountain landis showed up to the tehran conference and was like, "i got just the guy to win this whole thing for you, he hit .406 last year"
9:53 "He won that one but he's still in last place" could almost be said about Ripken. Kind of a strange year in that the MVP went to a player on a team that nearly lost 100 games. The Orioles hovered in sixth or seventh the AL East all season, but Rip was such a stud both at bat and in the field that he was still the obvious pick. Kind of like A-Rod's MVP in Texas or Carlton's Cy Young in 1972.
I enjoyed Jolly’s sharing that bit about how his Dad and how he helped shape his career path and relationship with baseball. My Dad took me to my first Rangers game in 99 and it’s a precious memory to me.
These questions were interesting and appropriate for the game. You should send Lucas over to JM Football to talk to Penik about how to craft questions for a game of this type.
lets get some events from the 1800's in there. when did the mound get fixed at 60 ft 6 inches? when did they allow overhand pitching? when did a catcher first wear a mask?
Ted Williams is in a F-9F in the picture so that gave me Korea, on the other hand I would of lost on the Pittsburgh PA question, I knew the town based looking up from the mountain side but was way the heck off on the year..
Boys, you’re not great at context clues. The Hard picture in round one: the cars are light colored so it was the mid-50s, earliest. In the 30s, not many people had cars yet and they were almost all black until the 50s. Plus dude’s glasses give me 1962 vibes. So my range was 1957-1963, with my final guess being 1962. So I wasn’t too far off. 😅
Yeah everyone was dressed like they were in the first season of Mad Men. You can also tell from the cars it was the late 50s early 60s. Plus, when Lucas said it was of a highly historically significant moment, and that picture clearly isn't Yankee Stadium, it had to be of the '60 series.
The photo round is often painful to watch. Their general knowledge and ability to look at the clues in the photos is awful, but i still enjoy the videos 😂
I'm not sure what Chris Rose is on, but it is pronounced Bruce SUE-TER. Also, did Jolly write the MLB expansion question? The Expansion Era begins in 1961 when the Angels and Senators (the sequel) joined the AL.
Oooo nooo! I knew Ted Williams saw combat in the Korean War, but I went 1952 instead of 1953 so I had a score of 1. What a failure I am. I still think competitors should receive a score deduction of some sort if they can get a year to the dot.
I tied with Jake this time! My highest score yet! I was off by 22 years on the Mazeroski photo. I noticed the light towers and was trying to place it based on that. My guess was 1938. I missed bv a decade on the Ted Williams question. I also assumed wwii and guessed 1943. I didn't forget about Korea though, just thought it was an earlier photo.
You feel like it’s a new Era of Mets baseball because of the ineptitude of the White Sox? Not because of the success of your team but based on the failure of another??? That’s objectively one of the dumbest things Jolly has probably ever said. C’mon dude. Nothing has changed. The owner is spending 100x the money just to keep being the Mets. Incompetency will forever be the Mets calling card
I’m also proud of my 18 total points. Ted Williams I was off by 11 years . Stutter cy young I was 5 years off Hard picture of 1960 I was off by one And the first DH of 1973 I was off by one. 😊😊😊😊
3:08 love that Jolly guessed a year that was not during ww2 at all lol
Yup
And did the best on the question due to that lack of knowledge

The American education system never fails
Was Jolly one of the students in that famous TikTok where the kids know literally nothing about anything?
It is Bruce Soo-ter according to broadcasters, players who have said his name in interviews, his hall of fame induction announcement, his obituary on the St. Louis local news, and his Wikipedia page.

Yeah, I was surprised to hear that Jolly was actually corrected.
I wish I could be as handsome as Ryan, be as smart as Ryan and be as personable as Ryan. What an ideal human
Found Ryan's second account
You spelled Jake wrong
Jakes better.
Ryan is great, but this is embarrassing. Be you. Make yourself better little by little everyday and you'll never want to be anyone else.
@@crystalgouge6546 it’s a joke relax
i feel like jolly guessing that ww2 lasted until 1948 is more embarrassing than dalton missing vander meer by 40 years.
Guess the Year is becoming one of my favorite series. Lucas rocks.
On Bruce Sutter's baseball reference page - Pronunciation: \SUE-ter\
The Hall of Fame's official channel also calls him Sue-ter.

Yeah, when he got in the hall, that's what they called him. I hadn't even heard of him until that point.

Did Jolly unironically ask when WW2 happened?
Well he did guess 1948 thinking Ted was in WW2 at the time.
Product of the American education system.
Oh man, that Ted Williams photo is in my wheelhouse.

I think Ryan has mentioned being on Wheel of Fortune.
For anyone else who is curious, it was Season 40, Episode 83 (according to IMDB)
For the 3rd photo you had to look at the cars. Those were definitely post 1955 cars.
I mean, the fact that there was a parking lot with that many cars in it pretty much says it is 50s or later
The hard picture is crazy, look up the Cathedral of Learning at the university of Pittsburgh. It’s taken from the top.
no way! I've been there and didn't even realize. That's awesome
I better get some Jake throwing it back for being this early.
Jake makes every video instantly funnier
Through a Google search, I found that the MLB expansion era debut was in 1961 with the Los Angeles Angels
Jolly, don't let Chris Rose gaslight you. It's Bruce SOO-ter
He was there.
Little disappointed in Jake for not knowing the year on the Jeter dive into the stands.
It was also the same game where John Flaherty earned a lifetime gig at YES Network.
The question was about his second, but Ripken did win his first MVP in 1983, so Jake's guess wasn't totally crazy.
Aww look you figured out how to not hide the correct answer from the viewers! I’m so proud of you
Guys… it is pronounced Bruce Sooter. smh Lucas you should know this
Does Ryan sit around the office all day waiting to be asked to do a trivia video lol

It is pronounced SOO-ter and the expansion era started in 1961 with the Angels and the Senators (Rangers) not 1962 with the Mets and Colt .45s.
I was thinking 1961 also.

lmao at jake getting picked on for winning
Commenting "more Rony" on every video until he's back in one of these.
The Los Angeles Angels debuted prior to the Colt .45s and Mets

World war II was from 1939 to 1945. Just because America hadn't joined the war didn't mean it wasn't happening!
But the context was Ted Williams' military service
Oooo nooo! I knew Ted Williams saw combat in the Korean War, but I went 1952 instead of 1953 so I had a score of 1. What a failure I am.

Marathon Watching 1/21/25. The answer is 1942. Ted Williams.
I was so confident that the expansion era was 1969. I think I got it confused with the Mets first World Series win.

Tf is jolly saying 😂 yankee stadium attendance it top 2 every year whens the last time the Mets had a higher attendance???
WW2 was 1939-1945
WWII started in 1939, not 1941. The reason Lucas probably said 1941 is because he's American and Pearl Harbor happened at the end of 1941.
Probably because they were talking about Ted Williams, so that was the more relevant timeframe for guesses.
Lost the plot
