    My sister and I “made” a cake something like this about 60 years ago. I could read and she couldn’t so we were something like 6 and 4. I think all we did was take all the ingredients and threw them in a cake pan. My saintly mother came home and gave I a stir and baked it for us. (We weren’t allowed to turn the oven on.) It came out more like a brownie than a cake - I think we forgot the baking soda - but it was the best cake ever! (To us.)
    My mom said we somehow used every bowl in the kitchen.

    I made this cake; it was amazing! I tweaked it a bit by adding 1/2 cup of flour dusted dried raspberries, currants, strawberries into the batter, then topped the cake with chopped roasted walnuts, after frosting! I also brushed the cake with 1/4 cup of 'Chambord' raspberry brandy, before frosting. It was my take of a Black Forrest Cake!

    This is my go to recipe for chocolate cake. I use Guinness beer in place of the water and I add the warm chocolate mixture to the eggs and then the dry but it looks like either order works fine. This cake is so moist, rich and the beer makes the chocolate somehow more. I also flour my metal bundt pan with cocoa powder instead of flour. Doesn't need frosting.

I use a video for visual reference, but I personally write down specifics like the measurements. I love the fact that he doesn't list out every measurement and minute detail. @@FaerieDust I just saw your comment. Actually you can feel free to experiment with it. We used the metric system, so I can only refer to that. The recipe says 1 3/4 cup of sugar which is appr. 225 grams, we used 150 grams of it. 1 cup butter is 225 grams, we used around 200. You can play and add less than this but more of sour cream or greek yogurt to keep the cake moist enough.

    • @kekszem55
      @kekszem55 3 роки тому

      @@priyankasingh-yv3cj Hi, maybe the problem was the quality and/or quantity of the cocoa you used in it? I always use holland cocoa powder since it is high quality and easily accessible here where I live. You should smell the intense cocoa smell even though the sugar is reduced, depending on how much you put in the mixture.

    The cake was amazing. Sour Cream made it absolutely moist and it tastes like a box of Cake Mix. I increased the Cocoa Powder to 1/2- 2/3 cup since my bakers instinct told me so. The Ganache was awesome!

    Let me add my 2 cents. To avoid the baking soda taste in the final product, mix the soda with the sour cream (or yogurt) before adding to the rest of the ingredients. It will start bubbling up and might "boil over" so use a deeper container to do this in.

    i tried this recipe earlier today.it's brilliant how this cake turned out to be so good,so moist and not too sweet.mine was baked for 40mins, i didn't use the bundt mould, i just used my rectangular dish.i tweaked the recipe a bit, used oil instead of butter.

    The center piece of the bundle pan is called a "chimney". I've been making this cake for almost 50 years. I've literally made hundreds of them, they're my go-to recipe whenever I want something sweet and quick.

    Chef John, I made this cake (albeit without the Bundt-tower) some time ago and must hand it to you, it is, despite its simplicity, the very best chocolate cake I’ve eaten. I admit to having eaten a bunch of different chocolate cakes in my lifetime and this is still the best. Funny how “simple” can become “the best”!

    I made 3 of these cakes on Sunday to take for our staff pre Christmas morning break.
    Couldn’t have been easier or more enjoyable. The compliments were great ( all thanks to John)
    Recipe and link are up on our company Facebook page.
    I could have done all this in about an hour however I only had 1 Bundt tin so the afternoon was devoted to watching each one cooking and cooling for just over an hour each.
