Love all of Argus but Persephone is so melodic and the story within the lyrics is very beautiful. I often listen to this on repeat - it's that good ! 😎😎😎😎😎
This has always been one of my favourite live songs of theirs, along with Phoenix, Way of the World and Open Road. You may enjoy checking out a live version of Persephone on the Live Dates 2 album which obviously doesn't have the fade out ending. Thank you for the reaction. It is nice that WA is getting some attention.
Persephone on Live Dates volume 2 is a great live version indeed, if we have the double LP or the remastered double CD edition from the small "Culture Factory" label... which has always been quite rare... the whole live Dates volume 2 is a masterpiece.... I had it copied on two very good tapes for years before i could get my hands on a LP version (full of scratches) and much later that excellent remastered double Cd version which is now out of print...
You know in 1972 Wishbone Ash won Album of the Year for Argus, same year as Thick as a Brick, Foxtrot, Close to the edge, Machine Head, Ziggy Stardust et al..GREAT things were expected of Wishbone over here. they were always brilliant live I saw them a few times, including the very best lineup (the first with Ted Turner), Persephone is a genuine classic but for a giggle why not play The King will Come, Leaf and Stream, Warrior then finally Throw Down the Sword, all of Side 2 of Argus..which and it is written down in the Magna Carta HAVE to be played together!
Love WA! Have seen them at least 5 or 6 time's and love the duel lead guitar work. My personal favorites are Live Dates and Live in Chicago where you can hear and awesome version of " In the skin "and " Blowin Free "🤠👍👍👍
On this album, FUBB, Lady Jay, and Persephone, all equally good. Off first album, Handy if you like bass guitar, Phoenix (but remember to click your seatbelt on first). Second album is all good, third album, I've always favored the second side starting with The King Will Come. To really hear the double lead guitar work, on Leaf and Stream, you can hear them chasing each other up and down the scales. Candlelight off New England is a beautiful piece of delicate lacework. If you notice. all of their album covers have a wishbone shape somewhere on them.
If you think that was great, check out SOMETIME WORLD, great bass, guitars, drums and lyrics. It also has rhythm changes, starting off a slow melancholy reflection and then... Also THROW DOWN THE SWORD also from ARGUS. WISHBONE ASH MK 1 AND 2 IS THE EPITOME OF CLASS.
Listen to the bass solos in Handy, their fist album. It's like the bass is talking telling a story, hard for me to put into words. No doubt the guitar passages in this tune are about as tasty as it gets in my opinion.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. Interwoven shimmering guitars, a strong base line and snappy drums. I listen to it almost daily.
It's simply a work of Art, beautiful and bountiful, an epic track and almost overwhelmingly good
From 1975 it on top 10 of my list . Vocal, drums, "crying" guitar solo in the middle and end. Absolutely complete piece of art from 70's.
One of the best songs of this era! Just love it!
I agree it is amazing.
There's a certain magical fusion of guitars with bass and drums with this band. Romantic and daring. Challenge on bro.

I have been listening to it alot on repeat lately.
First time I heard this my reaction was like yours. Apart from everything else in the song that 'riff' is just genius. And the bass too. What a song.
It's a subtle track with a wonderful dreamy quality.
one of favourite song...till now
Their arrangements are guaranteed to be tight and exciting even if the composition doesn't always hold up, but that's a rare event.
Beautiful song Laurie Wisefield and Andy Powell are superb on this album x

My favourite of theirs too. My sister gave me the LP for my birthday back in the day. I think I preferred it to Argus.
The sounds of those ORANGE amps.....signature ASH!
One of their very best songs. They benefited greatly by having Bill Szymczyk as producer on this album. ‘There’s the Rub’ is a great album.
Beautiful song , one of their best
I first heard this album in 1983.
F.U.B.B. blew my mind!
I will check that song out
Amazing feeling, amazing band

The 1976 cologne Live version of this is the best thing on UA-cam .
thank you for the suggestion I will check it out
Can remember when I purchased this album, Persephone is quiet one of the best songs ever of Wishbone Ash !
It's very- very special for a whole list of reasons.
Love WA! Have seen them at least 5 or 6 time's and love the duel lead guitar work.

I have found myself loving alot of their songs that I have heard. I will check out those live versions.
