My neighbor's farm has about 30 alpaca and they are the friendliest things. When I was a small boy they were super interested in me when walking up to the fence, now they mind their own business.
@@wormthirtyfour Indeed. They are part of the same family as camels; camelidae. There's even been bred hybrids between a dromedary camel and a llama called a cama.
I am a hand spinner and I always struggle to know the difference this was the most helpful video I have seen on this! Alpaca for fiber, llama for work!
(Watching the video for the first time) Fiber? Why would you eat something so cute and innocent? (Finds out fiber means hair) Oh boy I feel way better!
Llama fur is way less soft than I thought it would be! My dad visited a llama farm in California and they sell felted soap, so he got me one and it's very coarse. Also, when I was really young, I went on a school field trip to a zoo and my friend was super obsessed with llamas, so we went to them first. She was so excited and the llama spit in her eye! It was the funniest but saddest thing because she was in pain but she forgave the llama haha
i came here because of that grumpy alpaca walking bloke. just want to see the difference between the llama and alpaca. that casual aussie convo on the street was hilarious
I'm so glad you made this video. I have alpacas and it's so annoying that so many people still call them llamas.Only a few things. First of all, I'm doing some camelids research and I found out there are four llama breeds, the classic (ccara), medium, wooly and suri llama (like the suri alpaca). The wooly and suri seem to have a lot of fiber/wool too. But even though, everybody said an alpaca is still way softer and has better quality fiber. I don't know what kind of llama you have and I don't know if everything I type is right, but maybe you can tell me?And something about alpacas, they are used as guardians as well and can kill dogs/foxes too. It's more likely to use a llama, since they're bigger and more confident, I agree, but alpacas can be used as guardians too.I didn't mean to offend you, I just thought I'd tell/ask you. :3Besides that, great video and your llama and alpacas look really cute!
+Veerle Van Merwijk some llamas have very good fiber, but typically alpacas are going to have better. No absolutely not, an alpaca should not be used as a guardian. Yes there is idiotic information out there of people saying that alpacas make great guardians, but try joining a Facebook group for alpacas, and there you will see the results of such an attempt. Many alpacas die because of this horrible advice. Yeah, an alpaca with an attitude might be able to run off something like a cat and it's funny more than anything else, but alpaca vs a dog (one that is a real threat and not a chihuahua) the alpaca will get killed or seriously injured.
@@HappyTailsAnimals No you're wrong. Alapcas are good guardians. They are very aggressive towards intruders. While there are Alpacas that have been killed, there are llamas that have been killed also. I lost an alpaca to my neighbors 2 Anatolians and their pyrenees. You could tell from the amount of wool torn out that he put up a hell of a fight. A llama would have also been killed. If alpacas were so weak, I would have lost one over that last 20 years I have had them. We have lots of coyotes and yes cougars. It took 3 big dogs to kill one. We have not lost a chicken either to any critter. I have an orphan deer her that lost its mother somehow. He has survived quite well because he hangs out here around the alpacas.
Cool! I am getting llamas in November! His name is El Mustacho! He has a mustache! I love your channel! I did a llama show this week, it was amazing! I felt lots of things out of llama fiber! I am in a 4-H club and I was asked a lot if llamas spit! I told them basicly the same thing that you said! Anyway, you are so amazing!
Wow!!! Really cool video. Also it is really inspirational to see someone so passionate about animals and staying true to your words I.e. consistency of making videos.
I have showed this video to every body I have met. I extremely love all camelanies, but everybody else thinks they our the same animal. Thank you for explaining this to those who didn't know. However, another difference is their hair. Alpacas have a little fluff at the top!
i know this comment is three years old, but yes, she does! it's essential to avoid overheating and related health problems that happen when the fiber gets too heavy. she has a few videos on shearing and you can find them in the alpaca playlist she made :)
Are they social animals, such as equines? If you buy one (of either variety) do you need to have a companion to him/her? How many infants do the females create at birth? Only one, two? Good video. I always wondered if they both were related to camels, since their lips and nose have the "camel" face. Are these expensive animals to purchase?
Happy tails, I love your videos they give great and accurate information to let people know about animals. Can you do more videos on hedgehogs! I do research on them and watched your playlist can you feature Wilbur and Quill in videos more! Thanks!
Where did you get and how much was your Rose Breasted Cockatoo? (I love your videos! I love how you always multitask with all your beautiful pets! I wanted to ask you a question just for a Q&A.) 😊
THANK YOU!! People always get them mixed up. Do you every use your llama as a pack animal or full guardian? Do horses or llamas (or other animal) work better as a pack animal like on a trail ride? What do you do with your alpacas besides hang out and take their fleece? awesome

They're like a cross between a horse, sheep, and giraffe lol
and yet theyre most closely related to camels lol
@@wormthirtyfour Indeed. They are part of the same family as camels; camelidae.

Camel?
@@wormthirtyfour Thanks!
It would be fun to see a meeting of a camel and an Alpaca and a meeting of a camel and a llama.
Some people told me that they like my goats. Guess what. I have sheep.
🤣
LOL hell, I work on a farm and I still keep calling them goats 😂
I think I need a security llama haha, great video :)

thats dangerous you can't tame an alpaca its very dangerous go bright side and watch why
Did your family make clothing or anything from their fiber? That is so cool, as I love animals and would have been so happy as a child to have them.
Even though I knew they were different, this video still was interesting to me! :)

Thank you for this video it helps me better understand lamas and alpacas
Llamas wears hats
Llamas and alpacas are adorable.
I have stroked quite a few alpacas and they do indeed have lovely soft fur.
Alpacas look like they'd be nicer to hug than llamas because of their fur. Llamas look fun to run around with though.
I have 5 Alpacas and 1 is a baby.
Very nice job on this video.
A very ibformative video and just what I wanted to know to tell the difference between the 2!
Lucky Andean Farmers! They got two of the cutest farm animals in the world! 😁
Thank you for the lesson. Such beautiful animals.

The original color of an alpaca: Tan and white. Peekaboo is the same color as a wild vicuña: Tan and white. Not the same fur type.

Hey, what do you need to know before getting a alpacka
Awesome video! Just a request, could you do a prairie dog cage tour?
You're great!
I think Plata is the cutest alpaca ever
Do they have a common ancestor? Can they crossbreed?
Do you have to be concerned about deer bringing in diseases that affect llamas or alpacas?
Yes that is a concern for some people.
Ummmmmmm I want a llama how do I get one
Littlest Glare I think you need to find a breeder, or someone that raises llamas.
Thanks for explaining :)
Whole world of new people being born everyday and having new experiences. "Getting over it" is not an option.
Huh?
Idk why these are fun to look at.
Lol. After working with alpacas and llamas for 3 years now, I can't stand when people don't know the difference. Sorry
they aren’t common animals why would you be surprised by that?
Where did you get and how much was your Rose Breasted Cockatoo? (I love your videos! I love how you always multitask with all your beautiful pets! I wanted to ask you a question just for a Q&A.) 😊
How similar to camels 🐫?
Where’s this ranch at?
I would like to have a llama for protection for my Pygmy Goats. Where could I get one?
You shouldn't keep a llama alone.
So cute
I want to meet these cuties😍😍.
Love from India 🇮🇳
I love your channel could you do a sun conure care video
Did you get lbs and kgs confused in the video?
No

saw an alpaca years ago and he/she was cute as hell❤️
I dont know if this is correct but I was told that alpacas are in the sheep family and llamas are in the camel ?
Oh that's very very wrong. Watch the video
when you said that a llama can kill cayotes i imagened a group of alpacas and then a llama being like " you trying to fight my frindsdssss"""
Cute but tough!
