Most of my bags would still pass. My loudest bags are my LVs. Am not getting rid of those anytime soon. All of those represent milestones in my life i hope i can pass on to my kids when i pass away. I’m considering putting how/ when/why i got each bag in their pockets, to keep a diary of each purchase. I watched her video since it popped up on my recommended and I didn’t get that impression from her. I don’t think she’s trying to push her viewpoint onto others and what she said is all based on where she is in her life and what she regards as more important. I think we’ve all been in a place of our life where we really love or is into something but than move past it at some point. It’s kind of odd how many people have reacted to her video. I think if you love bags and logos and that makes you happy than keep buying and collecting but I don’t understand why everyone seem so put off by how she feels about bags at this point in her life 🤷🏽‍♀️

I don't think I came across as "put off"… the only thing I pointed out that could be construed as negative is that I think she may be trying to push her new views on others a little bit… and that I didn't "love" that. I really don't have strong views on the video either way. I went through a similar thing as Niki a couple years ago. I have never looked back. I was at a point that we had to turn a room into a bag closet, at one point my collection was over 200 luxury bags, as well as a lot of ready to wear. One day I asked myself why do I keep buying so many things? I started soul searching and really understanding why. I was definitely trying to validate something within by having these extremely expensive items, just because I was financially able to. They never made me happy. I’m so much happier now with my capsule wardrobe and 30 luxury bags. I only own 2 bags with monogram and thinking of selling those. I do understand where Niki is coming from. What are we trying to prove by flashing LV monogram? It’s not even good quality anymore. I did keep my Hermes pieces, but they are minimal imo.

    • @thehandbaghousewife
      @thehandbaghousewife  Місяць тому +1

I could see myself downsizing one day to around 30 - it is overwhelming to consider the amount spent on these things, but it wouldn't be because I'm embarrassed or uncomfortable wearing these things - I really do enjoy my collection and it's kind of a hobby at this point:). Thanks so much for sharing your story! I am loving hearing different perspectives 💜

I understand your POV. But want to add that it's a misconception that all those that love and wear LV monogram do so for the "flashing" of logos aspect. I can genuinely say, I do love the fleur de lis and earth tones in the LV monogram and always have. I saw it growing up and didn't even know what a luxury bag was and it just spoke to me. I won't be parting with my LVs because it's something I truly love for personal reasons. I buy vintage bags and have inherited a few LV and they mean so much to me.
Apart from that, LV canvas is lightweight and if you pretreat the vachetta, very carefree. The fact the bags are not heavy is a reason I use it for travel. I have a vintage Damier canvas bucket bag that I can remember vividly my mom using. That is priceless to me. She also loved it because it was so carefree even with with kids in tow. I can say honestly I am not trying to prove anything when I wear LV or anything I own; it makes me happy and it's practical. That being said, I am rehoming my Chanel. There I can relate. They no longer serve any purpose for me. Just wanted to add a different perspective. Not all of us wear LV for attention. I am truly happy you found your sweet spot. Best.

I totally agree, I know there are people who truly love it. Just in the circles I run in at one time it was just to be a flex. That’s including myself. I have 2 monogram pieces, one is a vintage LV Amazon bag and I truly like that one, I just don’t reach for it. I think the vintage LV are beautiful, that’s actually what started my love of luxury. I just acknowledge that we can, and do change our tastes, and maybe that’s what Niki did, but really we’ll never know🤷

it’s sort of interesting because I’ve found myself recently selling some bags, not for any other reason than I bought them, I tried to use them and they’re just not me. 😢 I held onto them for a couple years to be sure (and I hope I don’t regret it because I go through phases and prices keep going up), but it sort of stresses me out to have pieces I can’t use realistically on a regular basis because I simply have so many. i’m thinking maybe I want to buy more day to day pieces I can enjoy more often (like cosmetic bags, agendas/desk items, ready to wear, stuff like that), although I do love handbags!

I just watched her video after watching yours. At first I saw that she was probably “burnt out” by luxury and wanted a reset since she was purging other items in her closet based on her previous videos. Which is totally valid. As she elaborated with her reasoning, one thing she said that I thought was interesting was the whole female competition thing, which makes be think that perhaps she got into luxury for the superficial/wrong reasons. I think a lot of us here in the handbag space just love bags and appreciate luxury pieces, and she may have gotten caught up with all the YT/content creating hype.
The comments in her video are a little savage but I kind of agree that there is some disingenuous intentions. The end of her video seemed very scripted. I really wanted to root for her but it could be an attempt for views by riding the other side of the pendulum.
Thanks for making this video! I might do a reaction video myself 😅

I didn’t watch her video but I’ve seen a lot on my feed about it. To each their own. One thing I’ve realized is how cyclical fashion trends are, and even my feelings towards them as I age. Some things I wish I had not gotten rid of, etc. I have mostly not- flashy bags but I do have several monogram pieces and I admit I feel a little uncomfortable wearing them these days with mile high inflation and people struggling to buy necessities, and I don’t go anywhere fancy but maybe 3x per year. I always enjoy your take. If I got rid of all my logo bags, I would have a decent collection surprisingly. I discovered that it seems I already went through a "quiet luxury" phase that lasted over a decade and ended last year when I bought new LV bags.
All my Chanel and logo items prior to these bags, are 10+ years old. So it seems these 180 degree shifts come in waves. I have some really nice artisan made leather bags from Etsy and from travels to Europe that are so well made and beautiful. I'm talking handmade, some are woven leather that smell amazing. I love LV, always will and really gravitate towards the monogram pattern. I don't care if someone else thinks it's tacky or not. The moral of the story is to be certain you are doing what is best for you.

The pink sounds like something I would like…
I don’t know if you noticed but some of the bags have the vachetta trim and some colors have the same leather as the trim (like the buttercream and caramel) That has me wondering if they will be as nice as the one you have.

Only my Coach quilted Willis 18, once you removed the hangtag, would have no branding at all. I have some others with small logos, like a Polene, and my Brahmins too if you remove the charms have only a small nameplate you can't read unless you get really close. Oh, and my Coach Swagger 27, once you remove the hangtags, has only the tiniest logo (horse and carriage). I don't have a ton of bags, so actually about half would get to stay! But I like logos sometimes, flashy is fun! When you were showing your Pochette Metis in bicolor next to DUYP brown, I was showing the side-by-side to my husband. I've only watched that one video of Nikki's where she's getting rid of her logo bags and I didn't feel like she was imposing her views on others or judging others but just saying what she's doing and why. I knew her use of the word "herd" and about girls competing with each other would offend some people. I interpreted it as what she experienced.....maybe she felt like she had to buy whatever bag was in trend without actually liking it in order to create content. There are youtubers out there who do that but I don't follow them.
Some people (not you) seemed to take it as a personal attack but I think if they didn't like what she had to say then the best thing would be to not follow her, not to watch her video.
I love my logo and non logo bags and certainly won't be influenced by what she is doing. So short answer is no, I won't be getting rid of my logo bags, but it was fun to see what you would have left if you got rid of all your logo bags. I liked your fun take on a reaction to her video.

Perhaps she's realized that all the $$$$$$ spent on those luxury goods are needed now that she has little kids? Kids are expensive! Most of my collection is Coach and haven't delved into luxury brands, other than 2 Mulberrys, because I can't spend that kind of $ on bags. I didn't get the feel that she was being judge-y though.

I only got the judgey feeling just slightly... that's why I only mentioned it once :-). I just tried to show what I would keep if I did what she did. That is a great point about having more money for the kids. Those little boogers are expensive :-). Thank you so much for watching and commenting.🥰🥰🥰

In almost all the reactions to her video, people are so touchy because they see themselves in her criticisms of herself. People are just projecting when they get mad over things like this.
Basically the lesson is, If you are reading yourself into someone else's self reflection, maybe that means you should do some self reflection yourself?! Especially before you start bashing others for a different opinion or life stage. You don't need to come to the same conclusions as the other person but you should at least figure out why youre offended over nothing.😅

Please tell me how you think I am bashing anyone in the video - that was not my intent. I was just showing what my collection would be like if I did what she did...

I think she just doesn't wear them right now with two kids under the age of 5, but that's just my opinion;)🩷
