I love the little extras / inconsistencies that sting introduces. A similar approach to Stewart's drumming where he never played it the same way twice. Which is a good thing. They 'Re-humanized' the music!!
Wow! Really neat. The bass line for "Rehumanize Yourself" sounds like an 19th century folk song and nothing like the song itself. Same for "One World".
He's using a layered sound. I never realized that. Sting is an economical player. He wrote the song and has to simultaneously sing it so it's best to balance the energy of the two. He thinks of himself as primarily a bass player above all else and I utterly get this as I also started on stand up bass in orchestras before bass guitar. I was influenced heavily by his economical style and how to use every note to best effect. Make every line count so you don't have to think heavily about it later.
As mentioned in a previous post, u can hear how 'also particularly in the more complex bass parts' his playing is never statically duplicated from one section to the next, the parts are always idosyncratic and varied with notes added and subtracted from the main theme of the parts, from verse to chorus and back, basically andy and stewart also did this considerably, which gives the music the freedom of expression it has. I always thought about transcribing the bass for every little thing she does is magic note for note, but to fully transcribe and then perform/play all the idiosynchronsies identically, would then defeat the goal of how the composer originally wrote and envisaged it themselves. as rick beato said :- sting is uncopyable
the sonic integration of the drums and bass in Spirits makes it challenging to figure out what the bassline there is, which is not a bad thing, together they are greater than the sum of their parts, but it's certainly interesting to finally hear exactly wtf he's doing! I always play more than that.
YEAH THE POLICE YOU WERE THE BEST STNG STILL ARE WHEN I WAS A TEENAGER I PLAYED ON AN IRON BASS GUITAR AND SANG IN A ROCK GROUP BUT I DECIDED THAT I WOULD BE SCULPTOR AND NOW I AM I AM JUST AN OLD ROCKER LADY AND WHEN I WAS YOUNG I LISTENED TO MOSTLY BOB DYLAN AND PINK FLOYD AND I STILL DO LP S ON MY GRAMOPHONE
Thank you so much. Now I can discover by the hands of STING If I was right or wrong what my ears kept on listening to 40 years ago. Greetings from CHILE 🍷🍷🍷🍷
When Sting goes to the chorus on the first cut, (Spirits in the Material World), does the bass sound slightly flat? I don't think he's playing a fretless on that tune. Is he? The bass also sounds just a tad distorted. Or is that the recording?
@@SonnyBurnett2012 Cause Demolition Man was sort of a throwaway song. Danny was a roadie for The Police, he recorded the bass over the demo just for fun , Sting liked it and that became the studio version
Not at this time in his career. Sting actually used fretless basses or his upright bass. Pretty impressive for a guy that has to sing and play at the same time.

The Police are one of my favorite bands to play bass along with. Most of their stuff is not that hard but it’s in the pocket and sounds great.
Sting is my favourite bass player
My favorite police album
Secret journey is a hit

That's a Paul McCartney standard trick of turning something from repetitive to complex and always interesting.

Sting on base set the tone, overflowing talent.
Best bass line of the whole album: Rehumanize yourself
up there with One world (not three). That picked/muted riff does it for me!

Sting did not start playing bass in early 1970s, but around 1968

I wouldn't be surprised if that was Andy playing bass on Omegaman.
And Sting didn't play the base on demolition man

A i. A few artifacts but thankyou for your time!!
I am amazed how the song is created from scratches from Base line , etc
Thank you for your work. It's really great to hear. Does someone have something to say in term of composition?

No American rock group even compares.
Talking Heads, REM, Cheap Trick?
@@thewomble1509 yes, they are all respectable bands. The Police brought a little something else. Next level thinking.

is he using flatwounds?
I've never had him down as a flats player but some of these tracks do sound like flat wounds.Could just be the balance on the recordings.
@@thewomble1509he played flats on Regatta entirety and rounds on everything except for his fretless works.
😓 'Promosm'
Sounds like crap
