  • Prior to uploading the upcoming Serenade and Bass videos, it's only proper for me to showcase the humble beginnings of when I began to feel bloodlust for these overzealous BN combo videos. Stay tuned for how this Finisher progresses in my BN3 journey!

    Ready for some Reb Lore?
    Tldr: Played BN as a kid, loved the everloving shit out of it, waited like 20 years for the LC to drop to replay it, self imposed restrictions to stretch my creativity (such as no lotto codes, S-Rank all V3 navis before continuing story, no guides), streamed/recorded _every waking minute_, etc
    Prior to this kill in BN3, recorded just over a year ago btw, I was juuust getting by by the skin of my teeth. MagnetmanV3 in BN2 was insane. Bubbleman and DesertmanV3 cost me like 20 hours of attempts. But this time with Drillman, I thought "Wouldn't it be cool if he charged into me while I used Salamander? Do I get i-frames during?"
    From that point on, almost every boss after, I felt a need to develop some unique trick, or twist and choreo out a special finisher that would be fun to rewatch over and over. And it all started here with Drillman! With that lore out of the way, stay tuned for future videos on Serenade, Bass, Alpha in BN3. As well as the promised gimmick battles for BN5 navis. And the standard-only sub5 challenge in BN6!
    Sheesh, I've my work cut out for me. ._.'

      Even on my replay as an adult I struggled reaallly hard (wasn't using things like Gater/Gutsshoot) Was very rewarding to finally get the early-game S-Rank, though.

    It's very interesting to see the origin point for your obsession with crafty combo schemes. I love watching how creative you get with your approaches to boss fights, especially when placed under heavy restrictions. Keep up the great work!

    The style related chips were pretty awesome. I think the only one that passed to subsequent series was lightning?

    • @rebycVG
      @rebycVG  Місяць тому +2

      Yeah! Lightning carries all the way through to BN6 with Elecman's navichip's secondary effect.
      Gaiablade was perserved in BN4's WoodSoul but I think that's the extent of it. Technically, some of those style related chips originated in BN2's PVP Secret chips!

      V3 is found in Hades. I'm sure it's not the real reason but I like to think of it as multiple Drillman corpses in the background lol (all the stalagmites)

  • @Shadowsamaman

    Wait, what causes salamander to work the one time when the other times it was blocked? Do Drillman and the flame need to enter the panel at the same time?

    • @rebycVG
      @rebycVG  Місяць тому

      Great observation! This was something I learned from IPZ a while back, actually, back in our reddit days. Typically all hitboxes of an attack are only active for the first instance it would do damage.
      For ex, IPZ would summon a RockCube, and use a Weather chip to have the RockCube tank that first instance of damage, then he could have Vdoll planted on top of the panel without worrying about it being wasted by the weather chip.
      In this case, those times that Salamander was blocked, the Salamander hitbox sometimes collides with Drillman's armored drill for that panel--absorbing that "first instance" of damage for the panel, even if the animation is still going. It was just my luck that as soon as Drillman's _body_ (where the hitboxes are) would then enter the now nullified panel, the Salamander hitbox itself moved to the panel after it, so they'd both miss each other. Ultimately, it's a tricky timing thing.
      Fantastic question, thanks for noticing and asking!

    • @Shadowsamaman
      @Shadowsamaman Місяць тому +1

      @@rebycVG Damn. So basically it has to be extremely frame perfect. So by nullified panel do you mean the attack can no longer damage a target on that panel?

    • @rebycVG
      @rebycVG  Місяць тому

      @@Shadowsamaman Yup, that's precisely it!
      Another example is Gregar's lightning attack in his boss battle. If you have barrier equipped and it hits you, you can safely then step in and out of that one panel while the hitbox is still out because the barrier hit already nullified it.
