That was our thoughts as well. 15 bucks on reusable bags or a tote to store my fleece and wool. Worked out well, to be honest, and they are decent quality. We were pleasantly surprised with what we got for the amount spent.
There was certainly some sticker shock, but it was all items we use on a regular basis, and I don't think things are going to be getting much cheaper any time soon.
You did well with your grocery haul! I think you'll like the okra. We like it pickled or dipped in an egg-and-cornmeal mixture and fried because it can tend to be slimy. It seems to thrive in hot, dry weather and just basically takes care of itself.
We are thinking fried as well, so thank you for the tip on battering it. We have seeds to try this year in the garden. So many people seem to enjoy it.
I am glad you made it out of the bunker. Chris's wallet is much lighter now. I am eating chili with the beans I saved. I got cranberries' dried at the bulk barn. Stock up on thing you cant grow for 2024.
That is our thoughts exactly. I don't things are going to get cheaper anytime soon, so we want to make sure we are set. We are really exploring alternative ways to eat to capitalize on what we can grow.
You did very well on your grocery haul. In the times we are in now with so much uncertainty, it's important to keep up with sales on things we use regularly. Love following this challenge. 😊
That is our thoughts exactly. It is nice to challenge ourselves, but we have to remember that most of these items are necessities and will need to be replenished.
What a great haul. It looks like you will be well stocked for the challenge. I like quinoa (keen-wa) a lot. It's a great source of protein. The bag I have is stale. I will cook it up, or sprout it for the chickens.
@@PantryLiving I'm not sure if they will actually grow greens, but they expand and uncool at least. Mine are a few years old, they might be beyond growth.
I have thought about doing this for sure. I see many people doing it, but have not ever tried. I believe it uses quite a bit of oil, right? It would be interesting to see with the price on the oil if I can make it cheaper then I can buy it. Thank you for the encouragement on that, I think I will give it a try, an experiment of sorts. Thank you so much for watching!
You look ready for the challenge to me. I am going to participate also but a little differently. I have a full pantry and several freezers of meat but there are other things I was unable to find room to stock up on right now. So it looks like there will be at least a few things requiring store visits. I plan to keep a journal of what I use from my supply and what and where I purchase other things. That will help me to know where my pantry is lacking and give me ideas on how to fill that gap. Love your videos.
Thank you so much for following along and for your great comment! Keeping a journal is an excellent idea. I have always tracked what I can every year. It helps us in the same way. We learn where we fall short and it also helps us plan our gardens each year.
I hate putting the groceries up I usually get one of my grandkids to do it for me lol I think y'all did good for all the groceries you got. Looking forward to seeing what all you come up with during the challenge.
We were pleasantly surprised with the haul, to be honest. But then we had to remind ourselves that we don't have to buy most of the pricier items like meat. We managed to find spots for everything, but only just. No more shopping allowed lol.
Lol, that is the effect here too in some ways. I take stock and realize how bad I have let things get. Mostly with collecting food and not organizing it. Thank you so much for watching along.
I'm with you on continuing to take advantage of deals. Prices are too bad to.miss out on a sale. I'll probably stick to just doing pick up orders (less temptation) or going to the local mom and pop grocery store.
I agree a sale , I will take advantage of. My goal is to use as much of my canned products in the month of Jan. Now, I will not eat Squash every day! I have only canned 3 jars of pork and 2 are gone. That was my first try at meat canning. So if pork is a good price ,I will, add to my shelves.
With prices today, it is silly to pass up a good deal, but we are restricting ourselves to essentials that we usually stock. We are going to try not to buy any produce and grains and such.
@janew5351 that is something we definitely plan to do. We managed to harvest a lot of seeds this year for it and bean sprouts as well. I am excited for it.
Very good to know. We have thought about getting a Costco membership often, but we but so few things I am not sure it is worth it for us. But I do love some of their products that I have been able to use/try thanks to friends being members, and making purchases for me.
Lol, yep, know that now. Makes it obvious that this will be experimenting for me. I have not ever cooked it before, but many people have said it is good, we just never took the leap.
😊not a bad haul.. Better to be well stocked than wishing you were! Hey, totes always are needed eventually.

That's a good haul! Those staples are so important.

Sprouting for the chickens.... shall have to mention that to Chris, he loves to cook and sprout for them. I am very curious on it.

I make my own mayo using an immersion blender - it is so easy and much cheaper😊

Nice haul! I'm sure you will eat well in the next 3 months
We may have a slight problem 😆. But really, can you ever have too much food.

These pantry challenge shames me on how bad my pantry is
Need to get my butt going

@janew5351 congrats on the meat canning. It is a great way to take advantage of the deals and keep it out of the freezer.
What about giving microgreens a try for the challenge?
@janew5351 that is something we definitely plan to do. We managed to harvest a lot of seeds this year for it and bean sprouts as well. I am excited for it.
Olive oil: I order Tre Italian olive oil from Costco; online only. $38 for 2 liters. Usually free s/h

Do you use azure standard
We do not have Azure standard here. It would be so nice to find something similar, but so far, I have not had any luck.
Like your video! FYI, it's pronounced KEEN-WAH, not queen-oh.
I was just going to come in and say the same thing hahaha
Lol, yep, know that now. Makes it obvious that this will be experimenting for me. I have not ever cooked it before, but many people have said it is good, we just never took the leap.
Fried okra is the only way I like it 😂😂
That is how we were planning to eat it, although everything tastes better fried, so perhaps it is not a fair representation, lol.
Prices. Bidenomics!
