It must have been a wonderful time, so many of the truely greats lived in Southern California, Rachmaninov, Horowitz, Heifetz, etc . . . they would all perform at the fabulous 'Hollywood Bowl' . . . our great wether, climate, Pacific Ocean close by, the great Redwood Forests, the high & low deserts . . . beautiful sunny Southern Cal.
Horowitz, to my knowledge, never lived in Los Angeles. He was strictly East Coast (mostly NYC). Artur Rubinstein and cellist Gregor Piatigorsky did; Piatigorsky and Heifetz both taught master classes at USC.
A sound that stops everything else in its tracks. Kreisler also made a beautiful recording, probably his own arrangement. I like this ending more. This is as close as we get to going back in time and hearing Heifetz in concert. I don't think he performed much after this concert film.

The accompanist is Brooks Smith, who worked with Heifetz from the early 1950's, until Heifetz retired in 1972.
