I dread the twist I speculate which might be foreshadowed in these endings and certain scenes of the show. It could be that Raphtalia isn't loyal to Naofumi but to the Shield Hero, whoever it may be; she seems to romanticize the idea of the Shield Hero in the abstract. That would be terrible, but I'm almost certainly wrong

Well it's more her loving him, it's explained later he does have the same feelings for her, but he realizes he's essentially in the middle of a war and she is his greatest ally, so he doesn't want to complicate their(or the group's) teamwork or worse-get her pregnant. So he actively suppresses his libido and feelings for the girls around him.

However, the good news is, the LN seems to be focusing more on Naofumi and Raphtalia rather than Shield bro having to worry about the women around him. Having read the LN now I do appreciate the focus on Raphtalia. However, she's not the only one. Sadeena is getting some love too which I also like cause I feel her and Naofumi have a unique dynamic a well with her being just as scarred as him under all the flirting. Firo and Melty are getting pushed to the wayside though which I think is for the better right now as you mentioned.

While everyone else is going on about shipping, I´m looking at the message that was shown. How Naofumi saved Raphtalia, in the song it depicts Raphtalia´s hardships as a ´wavering flower´, going unnoticed and considered unimportant, only for Naofumi to take notice and save her. From a life of pain to one filled with purpose and love, such a beautifal transformation.
I also like the fact that naofumi is just as appreciative of raphtalia as raphtalia is to naofumi. Its pretty much a who saved who moment? Raphtalia quiet literally saved naofumi's life as well and vice-versa. And gave naofumi someone who believed in him and pointed him in the right direction. And even though pretty seriously traumatized by bitch does later on become intimant with raphtalia and according to the wn eventually marries raphtalia. Which is pretty much the most deserved marriages I've ever seen.
I know I'm super late to the comment party but I'm really happy that so many found common interest in this Anime/Manga/Light Novel series. I love the part of this ending that meshes perfectly with the message in relation to the show. At 0:40 It shows the sun rising as Naofumi is turning to walk away having given her some refuge from the rain. It kind of makes me think of the fact that Raphtalia knows that once the waves are over and the world is saved, Naofumi will leave. Almost as though this whole time she lives with the fact that the only time her world will breathe easy and the sun will rise, figuratively, she'll have to watch him go. When she takes hold of him and rests her head on his back it's like a moment she's trying to hold on to in spite of the very reason she's fighting alongside him. Like how the lyrics are asking for just another moment to love each other. Also how the ending shows them all working to help others and then contrasts the moments Raphtalia has to herself. The changes in sunlight and overcast correspond to the flow of her thoughts. It demonstrates on both ends how they help pull each other out of their respective darker thoughts and give light to one another. They're fighting to save the world while she fights for these moments with him. I love how he rarely smiles and when he does it's for her.
I don't care about what may happen in the manga or light novel, if Raphtalia and Naofumi don't end up together the fans will riot. Nice ending song btw.
