Really nice driven and it do wake up memories. I can't remember how many 'suds I've had. Some of them just rust sheds, but all of them was great fun. I do specially remember my first green 1,2 from 1975. It ended up with a tuned 1,3 and in the end I did change engine in less than 3 hours without any other special tooling than the brake caliper tool. I do also remember the dark blue 1,2 totally balanced with double Weber that was carburettors that was revving 11000rpm... and the red 1,5 with racing cams, the webers from the blue and head jobs done. They were all great fun for little money ... and I did learn how to weld....
Oh my it's not only the car but the driver is exceptional. You took my breath away even by just watching a screen I just couldn't imagine it in real time! Very well done!
I still own the Alfasud 1186 I bought on 09/ 09/ 75! It's now rusted beyond redemption- but my heart still misses a beat when I recall being behind the wheel! Deep sadness mingled with memories of unalloyed driving joy on winding roads!
Once in my youth, when i owned 4 Alfasud in a line I quarreld seriously, complained with my fate with every patch of Brass i had to weld on the Body. But after the next time i went for a drive i was reconceiled deeply. There are good Memories of Driving my 1.5TI QO and listening to Ritchie Blackmore's music. I confess : I got drunk....
This brings back so many great memories. I have owned 4 suds and 1 sprint in my time. Loved them all especially the mk1 1.3 ti and the sprint trofeo. Such brilliant cars to drive, the steering is supreme.
I owned four of these well-bred cars between 1978 & 1995, from the Ti 1.2 through to the final Ti 1.5 QV Twin-Carb. So dynamically stable, inspiring, superior and delivering buckets of fun, whatever the drive.
I have never been particularly interested in the Alfasud, but this lap really convinces me that they are brilliant little cars! Well done, much respect from a BMW E28 owner ! 👍
Thank you. I have been driving a lot on the Nürburgring - about 1.000 laps. That helps, and the Alfasud was known for being the best driving "normal" car in the 70'th.
Do love the sound when it's on FULL SONG! I remember as a boy how these little SUDS could run with much bigger 6 cylinder cars - they were the first HOT HATCHES!
Any sub-10min lap of the Norschleife on a busy day in an ordinary car is an achievement. But in an Alfasud? With yellow flags on several bends? Even allowing that the driver knew the track very well and that the car was in tip-top condition, that's moving. Best of all is that it demonstrates two things: in a small car with low power you don't touch the brakes unless you absolutely *have* to: and that Alfasuds are brilliant.
A well balanced lightweight car with a good FWD layout, can embarrass many higher powered modern cars. They had a winner in the SUD platform if only Fiat /Alf, had the Build quality to match both could have gone onto greater things. Because they were fantastic cars to drive compared to the contemporary Golf GTI's and Ford XR 3i's or XR2's of the time. The Alf SUD will always be the what if car just like many other Fiat and Lancia's cars along that time line, all let down by Rust and poor Electrics and generally quality issues.

The ultimate driver's car. I got five of it. And d...d, I really should have kept one of them. Its road-holding, its greed for curves and its fine boxer engine easily going to 8000 rpm and more give an amount of joy of driving , which no other car can give. All the Porsches and BMWs, which came later couldn't reproduce this unique experience of driving. Only a transaxle Guilietta 2.0 of the last serie from 1986 and performance-enhanced by the Alfa works came next to it. Who never had the luck to drive an Alfasud, hasn't lived really.
I just saw, it was Peter Dyrelund and his car. I was running against him in Sweden a couple of times. His car was way to quick. Back then I had one Alfasud 1.3 and one carburator 33 1.7 QV. I had no chans against Peter.
O how I miss my Alfasud Export Veloce. To this day the best car to drive I have ever owned. Throw it into a corner and it would happily go on 3 wheels. So wish I could have one in original condition today. Thanks for the video!
