In my experience, nothing, barring highend supercars have the steering accuracy of an Alfasud. Best car I've ever owned and they have soul.

Couldn't agree more. I owned half a dozen of them in the 80s and early 90s, even when they were shagged out they were great fun to drive. I had an MG ZS which was the closest thing I've owned to the handling and fun, but not quite there..... I swear nothing on this earth will put a smile on your face like a Sud.

Really nice driven and it do wake up memories. I can't remember how many 'suds I've had. Some of them just rust sheds, but all of them was great fun. I do specially remember my first green 1,2 from 1975. It ended up with a tuned 1,3 and in the end I did change engine in less than 3 hours without any other special tooling than the brake caliper tool. I do also remember the dark blue 1,2 totally balanced with double Weber that was carburettors that was revving 11000rpm... and the red 1,5 with racing cams, the webers from the blue and head jobs done. They were all great fun for little money ... and I did learn how to weld....

Any sub-10min lap of the Norschleife on a busy day in an ordinary car is an achievement. But in an Alfasud? With yellow flags on several bends? Even allowing that the driver knew the track very well and that the car was in tip-top condition, that's moving.
Best of all is that it demonstrates two things: in a small car with low power you don't touch the brakes unless you absolutely *have* to: and that Alfasuds are brilliant.

    Con l'Alfasud nel Cuore.

    • @CapitanFindus415
      @CapitanFindus415 4 роки тому +3

The Sud 105 is fine as a porcupine!!!!!!! I used to drive mine (same as this but red) all over Cambs and Beds looking for Mini Coopers to terrorize! Bought new from Benstead & Pidcock in Peterborough back in the day and had it for over 3 years before returning to USA but had to leave it behind. Same with a 2600 SZ and later with
a 1300 JZ and later with a 1750 injection engine!!! Also had a 75 3.0 V6. Now my daily driver is a Fiat Qubo that has 100,000 miles and 10 years of motoring to her credit.

Same here, i had a red Alfa Sud TI QV from 1984, one of the last produced! God i loved that car! If there is one car i regret not having anymore, that will be the one! And i had a white 1.3s i believe from 1982, inside mint condition, outside the rust won :(
But my cloverleaf had barely rust, and drove like hell! Also the Michelin TRX tyres were absolutly great, only the were gone in a few thousand km...
The red and black seats covered with ti...OMG...what a beauty it was!

That would be terefieng, if i remember correct, it weighted about 900kg dry! Also the brakes were good, but could be better. The disks in fron mounted near the gearbox was a weird thing to see. Then you would need a huge brake upgrade to think about more power. I think the sweetspot would be around 200 max with great brakes!
I have driven a Porche panamera turbo with 501hp, but that everyone can do, nothing hard about, 4 weel drive.
These cars are a whole other ballgame. But they were so nimble and light...and those dials...my God!

The ultimate driver's car. I got five of it. And d...d, I really should have kept one of them. Its road-holding, its greed for curves and its fine boxer engine easily going to 8000 rpm and more give an amount of joy of driving , which no other car can give. All the Porsches and BMWs, which came later couldn't reproduce this unique experience of driving. Only a transaxle Guilietta 2.0 of the last serie from 1986 and performance-enhanced by the Alfa works came next to it.
Who never had the luck to drive an Alfasud, hasn't lived really.

Great video, brings back memories of mine and setting up records from my home town to other towns... :-p What is your best time around the Nurburg track?

I don't know the time of an uninterrupted lap. I am never timing the laps - that would spoil the fun. But I think it would be around 8:45
