I have worked in the auto industry for decades. After I left for military, I no longer worked for dealers, but part time worked at stereo shop. We have done this on many cars. But your kit seems way better than the stuff our customers had us use. I am not so much into the looks stuff with cars, maybe some carbon trim and outside spoilers etc.. But for how much you spent on materials, the cost is low for this feature. You did a good job buddy! I wouldn't do this to my cars, I make them fast, and I make them all performance oriented. But for show car folks this is pretty cool. Did you know that Rolls Royce charges $12,000 for this feature in their cars? I thought you'd appreciate that... Good work, I bet the wife and kiddos love it.

Thank you for such an in depth break down from all aspects! Here I am 3+ years later watching & now on the verge of doing this mod and breathing some life back into my Chrysler 300. Appreciate it bro!!! 👍
Did yours get all tangled out? I’ve never heard of that before. That’s one reason I started at one end and ended on the end where the fibers were being run. Wow, what happened? Is everything okay?
Just got finished installing this in my 2016 Sonata and this video helped me out a ton, so thanks a bunch! I bought pretty much everything on your tool list. The gorilla glue worked like a charm, and the trim removal replacement kit came in handy for a few retainer clips that I broke while removing the pillars. I ran into the same issue of not being able to get my headliner out of the car so I also had to work inside, incredibly tedious work! I ended up routing the cable up the B pillar like you considered doing, as in my car you are unable to reach the trunk from anywhere in the passenger compartment. I'll add a bit of advice for anyone that may be watching this video - DON'T buy the light kit with multiple sizes! Especially if you have a light colored roof like my own (tan). The largest of the strands left pretty noticeable holes in my headliner, much larger than I anticipated. It looks pretty awful during the day, though at night you can't tell the difference. I'm considering going back in and wrapping my headliner in black like others have done and then pushing the strands through the new fabric - we'll see
JayyDoodle awesome! I’m glad i was able to help out a bit. I wish I had a second camera guy just for recording. Did you get to document your process? Upload a video I would love to check it out. I got all the same size strands because it came with MORE. And one of my buddies told me with the twinkle effect, some will naturally look bigger and brighter than the others. So for me there really was no need to go bigger. But that’s a great tip, thanks for sharing about the hole sizes. How long would you say it took you to complete with breaks included? Make sure to give us an update.
LITERALLY SAME, thinking of going back and doing black suede but wouldn’t it be hard to remove the fiber optics since they’re glued down? will it ruin them?

Thank you, I have a 1985 ramcharger which isn't in the greatest of shape its got rust and 230,000 miles on it but it runs and the headliner is massive so I was kinda thinking this is the greatest thing ever cause ima pull up in the old hunk of steel with a few dents and a little rust and when people look in side there gonna see a rolls Royce headliner in a 85 dodge this is gonna be great😂
Reynaldo...You have done an excellent job on this video..I will.be looking for anything else you post.your commentary is perfect and your editing in all the supplies and steps.is awesome..I enjoyed your tutorial you should consider being a full time reviewer.
Wow great video!! The length and depth of the video! I really appriciate it. For me it even could be longer :) Enjoyed it very much, very relaxing and going to try it myself. Only tip is: film everything also the headliner removal, etc. but you said it already that you should've filmed it. But awesome video!
The 1000th comment, and of course I have to let you know this is easily the best and most descriptive and visual tutorial on how to do this. Thank you very much, will definitely use this as a reference in a few months!!
This video was very helpful! I live in a very hot area and I was wondering if the fiber optic pieces would be more prone to melt or conduct heat. Have you had any issue with this? The only reason I ask this, is you mentioned not to use hot glue because they could melt. Wouldn’t another source of heat do the same thing?
No you should be good they are highly durable and the only thing with the hot glue gun as you cannot touch the metal tip of the hot glue gun onto the fiber optic or then it will mess it up but as far as The normal every day heat from outside will not affect the fiber optics I noticed in the video he said it was 100° outside and his Starlite system was still working without a problem not just that but at night the temperature should drop so it should not affect the starlight system
@@ReynaldoVelasquez Oh cool ok. I'm currently thinking about it. Do you think 800 stars are too much if I still have a glass window in the roof ?. and thank you for the answer. 🙏🏻👍🏻
SportsDomination I try to, I’m always on youtube almost as much as i am on FB and IG. Can’t promise to do this if I have 30k subscribers and 800 comments but while I still can, I will. Let us know how it turns out and anything new that you’ve learned along the way.
SportsDomination hey dude, lol I meant to press reply and accidentally removed your reply. But let me see if I can remember your questions: 1) will your headliner fit the projector (light engine) on my video I show how I ran the fiber optics into the trunk and store the light engine in the trunk. I did this because of its large size and also because if the light engine ever goes out you can buy a new one a small swap it out without having to drop the entire headliner again. There are others who have purchased a cheaper $30-$60 smaller light engine and packed it into the headliner but those are cheap and don’t twinkle. And some have gone out... probably due to defects, and guess what... now they need to drop the entire headliner again. What a pain. 2) how does it have power? The light engine box came with two plugs that power it. An AC adapter for a wall outlet and a lighter plug for a car. I just used the car lighter plug and ran it between the split foldable rear seats into the backseat car lighter. It powers the lights when I turn on my car.
Kids will effectively double, triple, or quadruple the time it takes to work on a project. My 4yr old granddaughter turned a simple 15 minute project into a 4 hr circus. I think I got lucky coming across your video as my first step into researching these for my bus project. The length question was definitely on my list of questions... thank god they have 13 footers. Thank you for your time!
Great job. !! I know it took a lot of patients. I had this done to my lincoln 120 stretch limousine. Now i know how to do this. i hope to do this to my denali one day. thanks for your efforts.
Rez C maybe get an automatic self dimming mirror installed. If I look in my mirror I can still see the lights and I also have dark tint in the rear window. But also try dimming your lights
Have you updated your wiring? Would love to hope on a GoToMeeting or a call and get some more guidance on my project. Do you know anyone that has done a BMW?
Michael Montalvo I don’t know anyone who has done a BMW but there is a guy on UA-cam who did one. Email me and I’ll send my number: Reynaldovelasquez85@gmail.com
@@Ralphcar_Custom I put my social media in the description of the videos. Follow me and message me if you need help. When you’re done I want to give you a shout out on your project
Honestly you can do anything you want as long as you put your mind to it as long as you stay focused and take your time I really think you can’t do it without having any experience look all the people that post their videos on UA-cam about the starlight headliner system it was their first time also but they put their mind to it and got it done so go ahead and give it a try good luck sorry it was supposed to say I really think you can do it👍
Shasta Shannon hey! Yeah, that’s the wonderful thing about this project! You can literally do this on a car, with or without a sunroof, truck, SUV! The only thing that may change is the way youll remove your personal headliner. But yeah! I dig it, you should totally do it!
My little Brother has the same exact car as you he went and did it and with his windows tinted it looks bad as hell if you sit in the front seats and tilt your chair back and look up at the ceiling it literally looks like you are staring at stars and outer space
Does it affect the rearview at night with all the lights going? I know you can dim them but I wasn't sure if you found them too bright or hard to see potentially
I’m just doing my Range Rover sport now took mine out and painted it black then added 500 leds Marked out 6 squares to draw dots 80 in each square then did the side panels in diamond cloth and then added a switch to the center lights did take awhile but looks amazing Iv had people ask to do there’s lol. Cost me about £150 total and got told people charge £1500 for it or rolls wants 17 grand
Matt Miller you should look up some videos on doing wiring. I suppose you could, but obviously look at what other videos say to do. Possibly use a relay and definitely insert a fuse between the battery and the the light engine. But yes I’m sure it would work. I’m not an electrical genius though. Haha so look up wiring led under glow kits etc on UA-cam to get the correct advice. And when you do it... make sure to share it with us too
@@ReynaldoVelasquez you beat me to the punch I was going to say the same exact thing but whatever he does he needs to put in an in-line fuse just in case of overheat protection it’ll pop the fuse instead of starting a fire but besides that yes you can run it off the battery in the trunk that is what I’m going to be doing with my Chevy S 10 I have to add a secondary battery because I have an airbag system neon lights for under the truck sound system and this summer we are going to be installing the starlight headliner system but in my case I have to run with a bigger alternator so it can charge both batteries but honestly you made one bad ass video it’s so easy to learn from how easily you made it for everyone else to understand it I just love the way you broke everything down and explained it now I’m just waiting to find the second video you did on wiring it all up thanks for a bad ass DIY VIDEO !!!
Are those fiber optic strands resistant to the sun’s heat??? Are you gonna have a hard time removing it, should the fabric ever deteriorate, and start draping over your head??? If one does this to their vehicle, it’s good to think about long term repercussions of this projects.
Skyelar Brennan I answer that question in my FAQ section towards the end. Details are in the description. But no it’s not obvious at all. No one will see it unless their car is lower than your car. They would need to be low enough to be able to look up at your ceiling. Plus the roofs of cars are usually Concaved so it’s even harder to see. If you turn the brightness all the way up or even mid range, people may be able to see your face changing colors or shining and then dimming as the stars twinkle. But that’s about it. And it’s harder to tell if you have window tint. Cops don’t care at all. I’ve turned the lights on and stood outside... nobody will know you have them, it’s like a surprise when they step into your car.
Man, u did a super good job. Almost every detail is in the video. I have an Infiniti and I will be doing this to mine. But I don’t see all the products you used? I’m not sure what kit you bought, but I’ll figure it out. Thanx for the effort and showing all of us how to do it. The T-pins was brilliant! That alone gave me the courage to try this. I’m gunna piece mine together and will write you to show you what u did to my car. LOL. Thanx again.

it really fits in well with the black headliner! great job!
Mr Ang thank you
Thanks for the video bro I wish you can show the updated wiring you did for the power but I will try this once I change my headliner to a black suede. Earned a sub from me mane. I also agree that a lot of people on youtube that did this, never really explain the wiring power. Thanks again for the video bro.
Carlos88 hi thanks, I had my UA-cam notifications turned off, and I didn’t realize that it would also turn off my comment alerts. I will upload a wiring video just for you very soon. Give me about a week. And if you have any questions just ask away. I’ll be uploading more frequently in the next few weeks. Let us know how yours comes out, and any other tips and trick you learn along the way
Reynaldo Velasquez yes I’d really love a video of the wiring step by step and tools you used ya know? I will update you once i get everything I need, I’ll start the installation. Can’t wait for the video bro, I’ll be waiting.
by far the best video for this install ive seen, super informative. thank you i think im confident enough to tackles this now
I’m glad that you can tackle this project now
Dude amazing tutorial and amazingly put together video! You deserve every subscriber you have and even more. I wish you more growth man✊
Gabe Hill thank you so much! That means the world to me
@@ReynaldoVelasquez no problem at all brotha. Im gonna install this in my 2015 charger thanks too your video. Have a kickass day!
Best tutorial on UA-cam thanks
Thank you So very much
Thank you, I have a 1985 ramcharger which isn't in the greatest of shape its got rust and 230,000 miles on it but it runs and the headliner is massive so I was kinda thinking this is the greatest thing ever cause ima pull up in the old hunk of steel with a few dents and a little rust and when people look in side there gonna see a rolls Royce headliner in a 85 dodge this is gonna be great😂
I love it! Go do it! Shouldn’t be too bad to remove anything , in that truck! Can’t wait to see people’s reaction when you pull up
Reynaldo...You have done an excellent job on this video..I will.be looking for anything else you post.your commentary is perfect and your editing in all the supplies and steps.is awesome..I enjoyed your tutorial you should consider being a full time reviewer.
This is completely wonderful work of yours bro. Appreciated!!!!!
Wow great video!! The length and depth of the video! I really appriciate it. For me it even could be longer :) Enjoyed it very much, very relaxing and going to try it myself. Only tip is: film everything also the headliner removal, etc. but you said it already that you should've filmed it. But awesome video!
15:45 aw he's got the kid in the other arm lol 10/10 dad
Thank you! That means the world to me. I really did do this while watching my two sons.
The 1000th comment, and of course I have to let you know this is easily the best and most descriptive and visual tutorial on how to do this. Thank you very much, will definitely use this as a reference in a few months!!
🎉🎉 Thank You! I hope it really helps you out. If you ever need help with anything just hit me up.
No you should be good they are highly durable and the only thing with the hot glue gun as you cannot touch the metal tip of the hot glue gun onto the fiber optic or then it will mess it up but as far as The normal every day heat from outside will not affect the fiber optics I noticed in the video he said it was 100° outside and his Starlite system was still working without a problem not just that but at night the temperature should drop so it should not affect the starlight system
jeez can't believe you did that like that. you did an amazing job. definitely will help me when I do it
Awesome! I’m glad it will help!!!
These timestamps. Wow! Thx!
MsXGladiator you’re welcome!
@@ReynaldoVelasquez Would you reinstall the starlight headliner or was it too much work?
MsXGladiator yeah I would do it again. I wouldn’t want to make a career out of it though. I’m good to install just a few more
@@ReynaldoVelasquez Oh cool ok. I'm currently thinking about it. Do you think 800 stars are too much if I still have a glass window in the roof ?. and thank you for the answer. 🙏🏻👍🏻
MsXGladiator I don’t think it’s too much. It’ll look great
Handcraft is soulcraft. Well done sir..
I have stock black headliner in my car. Do I need to cover it in suede still?
SportsDomination no you’re perfect the way you are. I had stock black headliner with the foam too
Reynaldo Velasquez Thank you for your response! Love how-to youtubers that interact with their audience. I will be doing this in my 2013 Cadillac ATS!
But let me see if I can remember your questions:
1) will your headliner fit the projector (light engine) on my video I show how I ran the fiber optics into the trunk and store the light engine in the trunk.
Reynaldo Velasquez Thanks much!!!
Absolutely. Glad I could help
thank you for going over the glue, hot glue was melting my fibers even with the tip away from them, I will be using the glue that you used now.
You’re welcome! I’m glad I was able to save you some future headaches
Best video on how to do it I have seen thank you well done
joel Herrera thank you! I’m starting a new channel devoted to this called The Project Starlight.
Hey, quick question are the holes and fiber optic noticeable when turned off in the day time? Thanks a lot for the video!
I need to know this as well
Konstantin same
Oh yeah my friend has This in his truck
Great job. !! I know it took a lot of patients. I had this done to my lincoln 120 stretch limousine. Now i know how to do this. i hope to do this to my denali one day. thanks for your efforts.
Any tips on the lights reflecting on the rear view mirror, only problem I have with it at the moment. Can’t see behind me.
Rez C maybe get an automatic self dimming mirror installed. If I look in my mirror I can still see the lights and I also have dark tint in the rear window. But also try dimming your lights
Wow... you are courageous
Thank you
The 12V cig adapter has a fuse within it. plug it in your light engine and your good to go
Rickey Racer Awesome! Thank you Rickey! I’ll check it out here within the week
best tutorial out there on putting the optic fiber lights good work man helped me a lot i should start the project this week
Can’t wait to see what it comes out looking like. Good luck!
I don’t even know why i am watching this right now
I cant even get a car right now I still have 4 years
•Strawbxerrii• resistances is futile
to learn when you do!
You got this!
comes quicker than you think.
You deserve more credit. Very in depth and helpful video! Will be coming to the comments if I have any questions!! Good job!
Thank you so very much
Have you updated your wiring? Would love to hope on a GoToMeeting or a call and get some more guidance on my project. Do you know anyone that has done a BMW?
Michael Montalvo I don’t know anyone who has done a BMW but there is a guy on UA-cam who did one. Email me and I’ll send my number: Reynaldovelasquez85@gmail.com
Sir to be honest I am so grateful with this video u made I haven’t done it yet tho but every of your details was very helpful

How'd it held up, still working properly?
CoC Master held up great and still working as it should. It’s perfect
Awesome tutorial bud!! I will be working on mine in my 2022 1320 Scat this weekend! I’m so excited! ❤️❤️😍🥰
hmmm do u think i (unexperienced have no idea about building & stuff) can make it in my bedroom?
RODDIE_BOII yeah for sure! People do it all the time
Honestly you can do anything you want as long as you put your mind to it as long as you stay focused and take your time I really think you can’t do it without having any experience look all the people that post their videos on UA-cam about the starlight headliner system it was their first time also but they put their mind to it and got it done so go ahead and give it a try good luck sorry it was supposed to say I really think you can do it👍
Amazing work and explanation of the whole process. Great job.
does this work on any car? i have a 2002 Pontiac grand prix
You sir are a Hero. So wanna do this to my 2020 Sierra
Nicholas Hinojosa thank you
@@ReynaldoVelasquez I wanna do this to my 2017 nissan versa
I'm only 5 years old and I will do this to my fisher price foot car.
The world is your oyster 🦪
Literally the perfect video
Does it affect the rearview at night with all the lights going? I know you can dim them but I wasn't sure if you found them too bright or hard to see potentially
boombro player no not at all. Just adjust the mirror and they disappear. They are overhead so they don’t really show up on the rear ire mirror.
@@ReynaldoVelasquez ok awesome, I'm planning on doing this to my 1999 jeep grand cherokee
Cost me about £150 total and got told people charge £1500 for it or rolls wants 17 grand
so my battery is in the trunk so can i just wire it to the negative part of the battery or will that kill my battery? please help lol
Thanks man. Did it to my 2006 Nissan Altima and it turned out awesome 😎
You’re welcome! I’m so happy for yoy
Are those fiber optic strands resistant to the sun’s heat??? Are you gonna have a hard time removing it, should the fabric ever deteriorate, and start draping over your head??? If one does this to their vehicle, it’s good to think about long term repercussions of this projects.
Hi from Barbados and I love it good job
Thank you from Texas!
Does this make it obvious to people outside of you car that you have that installed? I guess in trying to say is it obvious to cops😂
Reynaldo Velasquez thanks, yeah i saw you answered that as i kept watching
Man, u did a super good job. Almost every detail is in the video. I have an Infiniti and I will be doing this to mine. But I don’t see all the products you used? I’m not sure what kit you bought, but I’ll figure it out. Thanx for the effort and showing all of us how to do it. The T-pins was brilliant! That alone gave me the courage to try this. I’m gunna piece mine together and will write you to show you what u did to my car. LOL. Thanx again.
Hooded Satch I left all the materials with the links in the description
Reynaldo Velasquez Thanx Rey. I slowed down the video and took a screen shot. LOL I already found icy on amazon. They even lost all the stuff you used, probably because you bought them all. Man Im pumped. Thanx for the link and all the info. I subscribed and I’ll be back to show you mine in about 2 weeks. I can hardly wait. Stat safe
I’m going to use finger nail clippers to cut the fiber strands. Do u think that’ll work? There’s a straight cut pair. Hooded Satch yeah it’ll work, I’ve seen people do that before

would look better in a bmw or Benz in my opinion 🙁
