I don't remember a time when she didn't call herself Mori. I think she personally uses Mori so she doesn't mix things up in her real life. @@justadudeonlineI remember she said that cover didn't like her introducing herself as calliope Mori in official Japanese business like interviews and such for branding so she started saying Mori calliope and calling herself Mori to break the habit
Yep, you usually only hear her being called Mori by herself in her lyrics, or when she interacts with fans. Even the JP girls call her by the full "Calliope".
Firstly, I do think it's a very good reasoning since she is a Reaper by lore so she's associated with death; things do fit. Just that her Mori on the official talent page is written with the Japanese Kanji for Forest
Is it an acronym? As an italian I have never used mori in that way (even because it's not even a proper word but an abbreviation of "amori" or "muori", they mean respectly "loves" and "die")

Calliope is a first name, so it makes sense that people call her “Calli” and not “Mori” However, since the JP came up with the name for her, I honestly don’t know which name they intended to be the first or last. 🤷♂️
Mori is the family name, that's why in JP projects it goes first. And from how she refers to the two sides of her family as the Mori side and the Reaper side
For Myth and CouncilRyS/Promise they used Japanese name order across the board (hence the rather silly "Watson Amelia" used in official contexts). However, starting with Advent they now seem to use whichever name order is appropriate. So far, out of Advent and Justice only Biboo uses Japanese name order (Koseki Bijou), even though Shiori also has one name of Japanese origin; in her case it's her given name while Biboo's is her family name. However, Shiori's name in Japanese is written with all katakana and an interpunct to separate the names (シオリ・ノヴェラ) which is the typical style for foreign names while Biboo's uses kanji for her family name and no interpunct (古石ビジュー).
To be fair Mori is probably a whole lot more natural sounding for speakers of romantic languages than Callie which i can't ever recall hearing something like that in Spanish.
Well using the last name only is common in Japan, in combination with honorifics most of the time. It's usually done with people one doesn't know well. In my country last names are never used, not even to towards one's boss or teacher.
Myth and Promise have their names written the Japanese way. In Advent and Justice only Bijou has hers written the JP way while the others have it the western way.
I've always wondered about this because her nickname of Calli comes from the JP pronunciation of Calliope rather than the english, but Mori herself never introduces herself with the JP pronunciation, and she says things like "its your Mori" etc so it amazes me that she is universally called Calli among holomem outside of the occasional "Mori-chan" from JP senpai. I always think of her as Mori because that's her first name
I believe that the reason why most people call her Calli instead of Mori is because Calliope is actually her first name. The channel name is written as Mori Calliope because it's in the japanese format of surname first. So calling her Mori feels a bit too formal (at least for me) because it's calling her by her surname. So I go with Calli instead, since it's a cute nickname based on her first name. But either is fine, and in fact she might even prefer Mori, seeing as she refers to herself as "Mori" a lot more than as "Calli".
I feel like, at least on Twitter, I've seen more haters call her Mori, while fans tend to use Calli. Personally, I still don't know which one is her given name and which is the family name.
While I'm used to calling Calli "Calli", I do honestly prefer Mori since it is her first name, and pretty much fits her theme. Then again, I also usually call her "dad" and "reaps". "Calli" is really just her last name shortened lol.
Calliope is actually her first name. Her name is phrased Mori Calliope because in Japan, people's names usually are said with their last name first. It's somewhat consistent with Hololive EN too; Mori Calliope, Gawr Gura, Takanashi Kiara, Ninomae Ina'nis, etc. The pattern sometimes changes tho, like with Amelia Watson. But the newer EN gens seem to start with their first names more frequently; like with Advent, everyone with the exception of Koseki Biboo (Bijou) has their first name first, and the same for all of Justice
I think I put this together before but if you take "Calli" to be someone of Japanese descent having trouble pronouncing their Rs... Cari... Almost sounds like a shorthand of... something.
I call her Calli/Dad, I'm in a fan discord group and everyone calls her Calli But I did hear somebody say Mori at a comic con, I was looking at Holo merch in artist alley and some random guy next to me chatting with friends and he used Mori
There's no real rules in Holo for name order on the talents but for Calli, it's specifically for her branding as a musical Artist in japan that they keep her name ordered like that
@@ZalYagunRyai They used to follow the Japanese naming convention (given name following family name) hence why everyone in Myth and Council/Promise follows it, but starting with Advent they started basing it on whether the family name is Japanese or not (everyone in Advent other than Biboo for example). @@goztboyTo be fair, most people called Ame in first name last name order anyways. Including and especially herself. Unless you're Calli and insist on calling her Watson a majority of the time
I think the last name/first name confusion of the Japanese order is the reason why Mori caught on.
