I bag my dahlia buds with 9x12 organza bags. Push down the corners so it sits wider and make sure it doesn’t slide down and stunt dahlia bloom and you will have perfect blooms for arrangements!!! You have to bag while bud is tightly closed, and then let them fully open, usually a week to 10 days later.

I grew breakout last year. They were beautiful at the start but then I had a huge problem with spotted cucumber beetle. Tried the organza bags. It helped but I didn't like the look of a garden bed of organza bags so I didn't grow them this year. Now the spotted cucumber beetles are attacking my lisianthus. Your Cafe au lait is perfection.
I also used the organza bags that Fleur Farm in Vermont sent ranunculus in. This week I ordered larger organza bags on Monday around 3 and had them the next day because Uline provides next day delivery if you order by 6. I have used a headlamp many times in the garden to harvest flowers, plant bulbs, water, etc. Beautiful dahlias in your garden this year! Enjoy!
Hi Sue! Those are the ones I used as well! Good to know about Uline…I also think I’m going to invest in a good head light. With the days getting shorter, I think I’ll find myself outside again to do something similar to this if not get started on planting bulbs (which I still need to order on some websites). I’m running behind! 😬🤦🏻♀️
Also, the bulb sale just started at Flourish Flower Farm in North Carolina and I just received my order confirmation. I ordered last year and was impressed with the quality. Niki Irving, the flower farmer wrote a book called Growing Flowers which I have and love!
As always your Daliahs so pretty, Ohio crazy weather I'm by the lake last Thursday, Friday was in-between two tornadoes. My sun flowers got beatup taped up the bent stems phew are ok. Bought 72 inch steaks. The heat on the way 5 days upper 80s

The organza bags are a game changer! I got the bigger ones off Amazon and put them on my dahlia buds. I think that is a Cafe.. beautiful blooms girl! 😊

I’m obsessed with “unknown!” I can’t wait to be successful with my queens, I think I’m only going to get foliage with my July-planted ones. Have you had any luck with blooms in the ones you planted in July?
She's so pretty isn't she!? I think that Queen is a Cafe Au Lait - I'm 99% certain now. Girrrrl, just wait...we're only in the beginning of September and I had dahlias into late October last year, so there's time for our late planted July ones! My July ones have put on a great amount of growth, so I'm hoping I get at least one bloom off of them. At the very least, I'm confident they'll have grown more nice healthy tubers, so our stock will rise for next year, which is a win!
Loving your videos! Did you say you harvested dahlias at 8:24pm on 8/24? Was that intentional because if not, that was irony at its best! Also, may I suggest a headlamp for night gardening? I love Harbor Freight which has cheap but quality products. I'm sure there is one in the Chicago suburbs. It will keep your hands clear for cutting!

I would say Cafe au lait, my second year growing Breakout and the petals on it are less uniform and slightly wavy with more light pink and even yellow tones
