- The 2 kids in the other video has nearly went to the tracks to get their ball. The MTA workers has retrive it and has done their job. Minor people talking to ruin the video -_- no respect.

For those of you wondering why they retrieved a ball that a little kid most likely lost, it’s because if the ball were to be left there, it could cause severe damage to the train’s Bogey assemblies and HVAC units.

Its not just the fact that a ball is on the track but it also that if the ball comes into some form of contact with the electrified rail (gives electricity to the train), it could catch fire pretty easily

Facts. If those kids didn’t tell the MTA workers that their ball was stuck on the track, electric currents from 3rd rail could’ve easily turned the ball into a fireball and catch a train on fire. Also it could damage the train and the tracks and could’ve possibly derailed the train

@@TheGreyBird71 it’s other things that can get broken which cost money to fix it’s a train track electrical shit is down there it’s not for you to drive your car on drop balls on or throw your trash on but they do it anyways learn how things work so you can better appreciate what you have for transportation

Yes they are serious. There are parts under the train that could hit the ball and knock it somewhere for it to somehow touch the third rail and start a fire.

Keep in mind, it's not the tracks that are energized it's ONLY the third rail. No electric goes through the tracks.

My job was on the railroad for many years. If you had worked on the railroad, you would know that an operator cannot enter the tracks while they are energized. Is prohibited.

You can step on the third rail, as long as you don't touch something metal to ground, the side of the train or the two rails. I spent time laying on top of the protection board (the wooden cover over the third rail), to attach a metal clamp to it live, to go to a 600v heater or lighting circuits at a few stations. Working on the trains, I have and know plenty of people that got zapped by the 600 volts from the third rail. Like Thomas Edison said, AC kills. If you touch the 600 volts DC, but don't try it, and depending how it goes through your body, you will usually see a hole where the current went in, and where it came out on your body, if your heart survives. The 600v on the third rail is DC, it does a lot more arcing and burning than AC. AC will tend to hold you to the wire because your muscles will go back and forth, where DC will make your muscles pull/push away. Notice the snow between the third rail, and the next rail does not conduct, smoke or burn, you need to add salt or impurities to the water or snow for electricity to conduct. The AC electric in your house may be more dangerous than the 600v DC on the third rail. AC tends to make you stick to the wire, and you can't pull away easily. That's why you've probably seen where people try to pull people off falling outdoor (AC) wires and the electricity is holding them and maybe the next person on too who's trying to pull them off. With touching DC voltage you're more of a hazard hitting someone with what you have in your hands, or hitting the 3rd rail with something metal, and it explodes.
@@riorich “DC Voltage” that’s what subways run on Direct Current, It pulls you to the Electrified area. no matter what you are touching, if you touch the third rail you will A: Die a Barbeque Death or B: Survive with months in the hospital and no full recovery.

Not there were this one was. I doubt the wheel flange wouldn't even touch the ball. Real train's don't have those model railway pizza cutter type of flanges. it would just get dirty until someone else would have decided to get the ball. :)

If your trained and knowledgeable in what your doing you have no reason to be electrocuted. Unless your going towards the current collection system without proper protection and knowledge you will get what your looking for which is a shock. Employee here just removed a ball to prevent the kids from attempting to do it themselves, they showed their gratitude and left business as usual.

The first train is where the driver is and if you’re there, you can see the driver controlling the train, but that window you look through is gloomy and from an angle, it gets dark. It all looks as if they didn’t want you seeing the driver.
If this event was happening then that would be a waste of time for the train operator and his future stops.

When getting on or off the subway, ALWAYS remember the most important rule: NEVER jump onto the tracks! You cannot CANNOT make it out alive standing on the tracks!
Actually you can if the train is not coming just run to the closest end of the platform edge
If you have careful feet and don't trip and possibly get your legs stuck in the planks
So yes you can survive as long as you don't touch the third rail either

If you do drop your property onto the tracks, tell subway staff immediately, they will retrieve your property. However they have to turn the power off before doing that because the third rail is deadly if touched.
