I seriously think about these survival battles all week such a cool concept! Haven't watched the video as of yet just wanted to say thanks and keep up the content! I show EVERYONE your dollarstore survival challenge, too cool! Also props too Julius who kept it simple and plain these last couple videos, it is cool to sort of see a bit of growth of you both as survivalists and Dylan becoming more experimental, Julius moving towards the simple tried and true methods (as opposed to say sleeping in an abandoned farm and trying to start a fire with a battery).
Haha love the opening, this is the type of videos I like to see creative stuff you guys can really use for years. Tools, cook wear, things of that nature.
Well if you want a really good and refined clay you need to have a double bucket with one that has a good fine screen in the bottom. You add water to the bucket, without the screen so there's only a couple of inches to the tip, place the clay in the screen bottomed bucket. Lower the clay filled bucket into the other one. Let the clay soak up water for a couple of minutes. Once soaked start mushing the clay together to make a slip. Once the clay has started to become like what's in your hat slowly lift and lower the second bucket in and out of the water so the clay goes into the water while leaving the gravel and stones in the screened bucket. Let the bucket with the water clay mix sit over night. Once all the clay has settled to the bottom carefully drain the water out. If you pour out the water do it slowly. Once you have only slip left let it sit for a few days to a week till it is to the right clay consistency. I know not something you can do in a challenge like this but that's the cheapest way to do it yourself.
Can't wait to see how Patrick turns out. :) The paw print was a great idea.... that should be pretty awesome. Midges suck.... not sure what you can do about them but I have had some success with Avon Skin So Soft....it is about the only thing I have found that works. You just have to keep applying it fairly often. So.... now we get to see the oven in full operation. Can't wait. Nice job guys...y'all have come a long ways.
Very good idea, maybe buying (or collecting!) some natural beeswax then foraging for herbs that will repel the insects. Then making them into candles could be a nice challenge. :D
I would have also suggested covering the pieces lightly with plastic, or place them in the shed to let them dry very slowly. At least two weeks. After bone dry then fire them. But the chances of unprocessed clay drying and firing without cracking is very slim. Fun to try though!
In English, someone who works with clay is called a potter. In the future, if you have more time, you can liquefy the raw clay through something like an old T-shirt (or a screen works best ) in a bucket. This will take out almost all of the stones and larger objects. You then add more water and get all of the clay suspended in the water. Then set the bucket aside so everything settles to the bottom of the bucket. This should separate the clay from the soils and sand. As everything will have a different density so after everything settles out you ladle out as much of the water as possible . Then allow what is left to dry. When you are done the pure clay should be in one big layer, with all the sand and any gravel you missed at the bottom of the bucket. This method takes several days and would not of worked in your time limit for this challenge.
You can also separate the stones right in the bucket as well , by liquefying everything . The large stones should sink to the bottom easily and fast so you can scoop them out right away because they will be heavier than the slip ( liquid clay) the smaller stones should settle to the bottom with the sands in the method mentioned above. You can do this without a bucket by digging a hole, putting a large flat stone at the bottom of the hole and then using one of your tarps or ponchos to line the hole.
That seems like a very practical way to go in a true survival situation. But like many of the competitions you see (these challenges, shows like chopped or forged in fire) the process has an arbitrary time limit that makes the task almost impossible
Just my opinion . Julius should have been allowed to use his natural bowel. You both can build upon previous successes. That is how you would do it in the wild. Great video. Yes Potters is the term.
I made a coil vase before turned out great u should have scored the coils and rubbed some wate on them then put it together instead of smoothing it out. Great challenge idea u both did awesome
Yes, the proper term IS Potter. As in a potter's wheel. A Potter works in a Pottery. Also Ceramicist is a proper term as well. They both work with clay. However a Potter only makes pots and works only with clay while a Ceramicist makes a wide variety of products and works with other materials than just clay alone.
@@SmoothGefixt ahh so cool getting a respons from you guys!been following for a while and even got me and a friend to start doing a little bushcraft, really awesome to see you two (three) keep up the good work! Greetings from Sweden :D
Maybe next time you could use your shirt to get the water instead of spending so much time making a container just soak your shirt and squeeze the water out.
I get that littering is bad, but it's a chunk of metal, not a styrofoam cup. If you were actually trying to survive and not some rich, preachy hippie out larping in the woods, you'd see that "trash" for the treasure it is!
Extra Episode Folks! Check out the Pottery Baking in our Primitive Oven: ua-cam.com/video/tRBzC8Uruvc/v-deo.html . Hope you all enjoy the series:)
love the channel man this stuff helps me sleep knowing you guys are out there doing some good in our world
Lang leve Holland!!
Hey Dylan, why didn't you turn your hat inside out before you put the clay in it? 🙂
Always, in each episode, at the start there's the bit "at least the rain might help keep the midges away"
Dylan could have used the hat inside out, to keep his head clean
My exact thoughts also 🙈

Haha, interesting observation there;)
I'd rather watch this than any series on network TV right now. Way to go, guys!
Awesome series guys, looking forward to the next battle!
You guys are an amazing duo and keep suprising me. The content realy goes next level in this series. Thank you two so much!! Keep it up :)
Great to hear:) THanks
Really enjoying the series i like what dylan made it looks good
Loving this challenge series.
Haha love the opening, this is the type of videos I like to see creative stuff you guys can really use for years. Tools, cook wear, things of that nature.
You guys work hard for our amusement. Big thanks boys, great series so far.
Very excellent video. Enjoying these challenge videos so much, completely inspired. Thanks guys for making these.
As always fantastico you guys - quiet good pottery, not too shabby, but those midges dang ;-)
This is the best UA-cam channel going. You guys are great. Keep up the good work.
Awesome! You guys are gold together, totally hooked on the series, thanks for the amazing content.
Excellent guys been waiting all week for this one. Dylan that vase looks great man I hope it holds up in the kiln
Potters is what we usually say. Ceramicist works too. Nicely done with the coil built pots.
this series is brilliant and you have a lot of imagination. your channel is fun and well done. congratulations guys, don't stop
Love watching you guys. Keep up all the good stuff!
Hey, I just discovered you guys. Great videos! Your competitions are my favorite so far. Good luck out there.
Been waiting for this fantastic as usual thanks for your uploads dude God Bless

So far we found fire and mental endurance to work the best with damn migies;)
Love the water pitcher and Jaeger's paw print!
nice episode, looking forward to the next.
awesome job guys really enjoy your work keep it up.
Nice video man! Can't wait for the next video
I’m watching this back still one of my favs
Super Video friends. I'm very curious if there are no cracks when burning!
Yay, a consistent uploads!!!
You can waterproof your boots with a good wax mate. A mix of beeswax, paraffin wax and boiled linseed/ Tung oil will sort you out
What about breathability than?
@@SmoothGefixt Breathability through the leather? i suppose you would lose it, but you cant have both.
@@deathbyastonishment7930 That's why they have the Gore-Tex lining, to be waterproof and breathable.
@@SmoothGefixt if the lining keeps them waterproof, why aren't they still waterproof? is the lining ripped?
@@deathbyastonishment7930 Probably... wear and tear;)
Amazing video, good luck on the real challenge!
For your next challenge I want yall to make candles with natural insect repellent. Lol

I loved it. I think potter's is the right term. Well done 😆
Awesome ive been waiting for a new video 😀. Love this channel!
great jobs, hurry Sunday cant wait
That would have been nice if you actually used the pots a little bit, just so we can see if there up to the task. Still a great video as usual boys!
Next video, up now;)
you guys realy made a show out of this it feels legit :D
Great series fellas :)

Some of the fine sand it needed to keep the clay from cracking. It is much like how cement needs sand to be more stable.
yeah, there is it again...really missed the "people messing around" part :D 2 thumbs up guys
This is one of the best episodes yet! You don't call a potter a potter, you call him a ceramist, right?
Yes if you are a roman. If you are Germanic (Baltic Sea, North Sea) you call him "a potter". Rome is the foe.
Enjoy this one. Smart on the thicker pot. And pinch bowl. Could put some cut grass straw in the clay ?? To making it thicker just idea.
Think straw only works great for clay projects that are not baking baked;)
loved it lads.
19:33 The most true statement I have ever heard 🤣
About to watch, but came here first..Finally 23:20 ll be a time to enjoy😍
I'm loving this challenge
Whenever they do these challenges, Julius is always all over the place
Oooops:p
Julian: "Im going to walk to a place..."
Says this as he's in a full sprint.
there can only be one...
Just my opinion . Julius should have been allowed to use his natural bowel. You both can build upon previous successes. That is how you would do it in the wild. Great video. Yes Potters is the term.
Totally off topic..love your hair Dylan
I think they are called Potters, just like Harry!
SMOOOOOTH gefixed jonge!!!
I made a coil vase before turned out great u should have scored the coils and rubbed some wate on them then put it together instead of smoothing it out. Great challenge idea u both did awesome
Yes finally
Good stuff guys.

YES!
I think the Yeager paw print won the challenge. 👍✌🥃
One like equal on like from me to smooth grefext
life hack, when you put dirty stuff in your hat, turn it inside out so you don't get dirt on your head after XD
Epic!!! Is it Sunday yet..??
Jeppppp!
potter is correct, and so is ceramicist or ceramist. all 3 are common.
Julius, your man-like sculpture reminds me strongly about the swedish organisation "Rädda barnen"!!! Please google their logo, it is really similar.
Amazing!
Any chance you two could do a natural midge repellent challenge 👍🏼
That would be a damn useful one':)
Ceramicists. or Potter's
use a small stick to roughen the tops of each ring layer and keep things wet to get a good bond.
Is the getting shooed off with a heyfork on video? Lol
One of the other things that needs to be done is that when the pot is leather hard, it needs to be burnished with a smooth stone before it is fired.
what would the benefits of that be? Cheers! dylan
We don't want to wait a week come on!!! Haha
Hohoo, less then two days ey;)
I mean he used his hat, so why couldn't Julius use the birch bowl?
I've been slacking on my Smooth Gefixt lately. But i'm officially on vacation and about to Binge!
Good to see you back;)
15:06 he looks massive
That's so unfair on Julian that he can't use his bucket, but Dylan is using a board which he would have made from the previous competition himself.
In Texas with the creek I am near there is so much clay it is crazy. That is why we can't have basements where I'm at
Love it guys 👍🏼when did you get married and why was I not invited 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Yea
Boyyy
Ceramisists.
You should have gone with pinch rather than coil. Less stress points. Xx
so... do you guys have a plan to do Raft Survival 2??
Would be really cool! Just have to find the priority and season for it,stay tuned!
Can you build a bow with arrows and s glaas hunting point with only a axe and knife for one of your challenges
Glas hunting point, that sounds though:p Stay tuned for the rest;)
Nice episode, but why was Dylan allowed to use his hat as a watersource while Julius had to craft one and not allowed using his nature watermug?
I also wondered...;) Cheers, Julius
9:32 is probably because of the European spruce bark beetle (Ips typographus)
Very unlikely, this is the regular way of forestry in this area;)
What are they eating?
Love your work and you guys! So nice to watch! Need this in cinema movie length. This weeks winner for me: dylan ✌🏻
Well I found an easy way to make digging tools out of cheap structural steel
I think you should be allowed to use your previous things, that feels like its the reson of things, improving and building up your tool rack
Agree;) Cheers, Julius
@@SmoothGefixt ahh so cool getting a respons from you guys!been following for a while and even got me and a friend to start doing a little bushcraft, really awesome to see you two (three) keep up the good work! Greetings from Sweden :D
Jaaaa
If you add some thing that’s already burnt ie smashed pottery bricket ash is ment to work well. It will stabilize it in the fire
First pottery project ever;)
Make a dog hous in 3 hours
People messing around.
the thing with the hat is clever, but why doesn't he turn it inside out?
Maybe next time you could use your shirt to get the water instead of spending so much time making a container just soak your shirt and squeeze the water out.
sculptor
Water will let the clay crack
Dry clay that can be powdered and can then be cleaned more easily. Your time limit did not permit that but that is the solution to your problem.

True, the point is that people just empty there rubbishbins here on the forestroadside
