Dear Sir .. 🤭yes I am about 4 yrs late in watching this video BUT this is the BEST SketchUp video with reference to converting a building plan (in another form) into SketchUp and the clearest guide to scaling .. I do hope you will be reading this late comment ..

thank you some much very useful info I don't know if I missed it in the video but the mesure I got has in m2 from the picture I guess, so I had to draw a line on top of the reference you can also do this on pdf files

That's the most straight forward easy to follow I have found for learning to use Sketchup, thank you Question what if the plan doesn't show any scale. have you done many other tutorials

Thanks Elaine. Hmmm...tricky to work with a plan without a marked scale but I guess the best way forward would be to make an educated guess towards a detail that may be somewhat standard on the plan (such as a doorway or similar).

Hi Roger, I'm a 3D artist with focus on animated films (Actually we don't care too much about Scale!). Recently I started concentrating on Architecture modeling and as you know here the scale is really matter, so I have some questions if you kindly could answer them: 1- where can i find those typical measures you mentioned in the video; like the door height is typically 0.82*204 and so on?
2- while modeling from the plan, when can i use my imagination and photographs to start detailing the walls for example?
    Thanks in advance

Hi Yaman - Those 'typical' measurements I referred to relate to common building standards in place in Australia. Confusingly, these building and construction standards differ around the world but you should find that there is a national or state based standards organisation in most countries that would publish such details. You might also find that there is a builders or architects professional organisation in your area that would have similar information available (try a search for 'building standards' and restrict it to search results in your country).

After importing and resizing an image how do you import a second image and resize the same as the first one

    • @roget67

Hi Robert. As long as the second image has some similar scale indicator (i.e. any element that you know to be a specific length), then you can scale using the same procedure.

What i figured out is I imported the 2nd image by its self into sketchup, and resized it, then copied & pasted with and to the first image and now they are both together and scaled the same yeah. How simple . thanks for your help. When I try to resize separately in the same sketchup file it doesn't work.

I can't type the new measurement on the Lenght box
Do you know what could be wrong?

      Hi Michel
Its possible that you are accidentally clicking the mouse again before you attempt to add/modify the dimension. On a PC, you can simply start typing the dimensions you want as soon as you have drawn the object (just don't click off it). On a Mac, you need to click in the 'measurements' box at bottom right to start adding the dimension. Again, just be sure that you are not clicking off the object first.

Yes, every so often. This is the first SketchUp tutorial I've done (uploaded today)

Roger, "temPLATE" not "temPLET". I couldn't continue with your tutorial after the first two instances.
