Normally, Mikey is the tactical one in these challenges, but it’s impressive to see John come up with an efficient champion team so quickly.
While I think Mikey tends to be more tactical, they both would agree that John is far and away the better battler.
John actually used a master ball 😂
Probably John learned from his mistakes in the SV "beat the champion." video. He did get a beating from Geeta. 😅😅
I mean wasn't John once considered a worthy rival by Wolfy? He just sometimes likes to play out gags too much like bringing a Magikarp to the SV version of this to play on the Feesh gag, but he DID beat Radical Red with a Frog-only team and that's harder than it seems it's NOT an easy Game.
He does have a competitive pokemon background so it makes sense
Honestly, Mikey being on Set and John being on Switch probably made all the difference when it came to battling

Probably not the only difference, but a big one, especially with John getting the gym leaders.
@@Dusxio Idk; the advantage you have when on switch mode is massive compared to just a few stronger Pokémon.

Mikey’s priority of time over quality when it came to Metagross was really what led to John winning. Ground/Steel/Psychic coverage could’ve all been done by Metagross.
Even in the hands of an NPC who can't manage King's Shield well, an Aegislash is still an Aegislash. Blade Form's base 140 attacking stats shouldn't be approached so frivolously.
Yeah I think if Mikey went for Dark Pulse instead of Nasty Plot he may have ko'd it or at least flinched it

12:42 I recently played through Galar again, I’m going to assume Mikey’s 23 Light Clays are from the digging duo because I got a million of them trying to get the fossilised fish and fossilised drake.
It was really cool seeing John flex his competitive knowledge in this video, he deserved the win, but I feel kinda bad for Mikey, he fumbled loads today and if he would've kept his cool things could've been different, but it was a fun video. Though it's brutal, I hope the next first to beat the champion is against Cynthia.
Yeah, as Mikey said earlier in the video himself. He isn't really the competitive player, and the competitive pokemon mind works different from one who doesn't play it for the competitive side.
And I like how John mentions he isn't good at team building, he just uses whatever he likes, which I can relate to as that is kinda how I played competitive myself xd
you know what's kinda cool, there are 3 Lizard starters. Imagine those 3 in a legends game: Charmander, Sobble, and Treecko. We just need a water cat, fire turtle, and water monkey starter. We also need a fire frog.

These videos are so fun! I love seeing the friendship between Mikey and John. While John had the clear advantage here, he was so kind to Mikey the whole time, always giving him advice and listening to Mikey's strategizing. Warning him about Aegislash, but still being nice when Mikey stress-forgot Leon's lead.
I almost feel bad saying this, but Ive kinda missed Sword/Shield videos lol. Found myself replaying them recently as well. I think I was too harsh on them when they came out lol
I just beat it again too, I used Drednaw Corviknight Centiskorch Appleton Grimmsnarl and Toxtricity
We didn't know how good we had it or how much further Gamefreak could fall, lol. Seriously, Scarlet/Violet could have been so good if they had another year to work on them.
Ive used Salazzle and Tsareena online since Gen 7, and I even had both their awesome shinies on my online team for all of swsh, I’m glad John’s giving them the attention they need
Challenge idea: catch a Pokémon team with a type chain and fight
So start with (for example) Sableye, then Trevenant, then Ludicolo? At least one type matches the previously caught mon?

That Oversimplified foreshadowing clip gets me everytime
Even tho John had the advantage starting the tournament ahead and playing on switch mode, I believe that Mike made too many mistakes that would cost him the battle against Leon, plus he got two non dinamax opponents that saved him a lot of time, while John had a mostly clean tournament.
So if both where playing on the same settings I think that Mike would get to Leon first but lose, giving the chance to John that would just clean up after him.
P.S.: I LOVE this kind of video.

I think sword and shield are still good games. Yes the main story was.... weird. But the games run really well. Scarlet and Violet LOOK beautiful, but it runs pretty bad in some places. If they could combine them for the next game....
Maybe in 4-6 years, there's no way they'll make the next game like that without screwing up knowing GF's history
main story was better than Gen 2 and Gen 3, yet people like those games and never complain about their stories

Yeah, that was my initial thought too. It's, like, the thing Lapras does in gen 8.
No hate, but after seeing the bracket where John had gym leaders dynamaxing vs Mikeys random route trainers, I'm glad John was able to pull off the dub in this one.
Real talk, it looks like Mikey got so caught up on the whole "haha leon cant use aegislash right" thing that he ended up severely underestimating Aegislash itself. That thing is a menace on the battlefield.
@@gengarzilla1685 Mikey is simply not the best battler espically under pressure. He even admits it which is why he stays away from competative and nuzlockes. He was freaking out about Piers that battle could have been over way sooner but he was too focused on super effective moves and setting up when it wasn't needed. John also used to do competative so he naturally knows what to do when given a team sheet of an opponent
@@finnsnow2495Yeah. Mikey freely admits he doesn't enjoy Pokémon being hard, and they made it clear from the beginning the JMC doesn't involve anything beyond metronome battles since John would smoke him.
Competitively john has a much higher knowledge spread so this is interesting that mikey is learning something about competitive pokemon pr just go blind
Quick tip about how to say French words. If it ends in a consonant, remember "Careful." They pronounce c, r, f, and l. CaReFuL.
As a huge fire type lover I absolutely adore the fact that John brought Salazzle. Thats so hype :D I huinted a shiny one in SV because I always wanted one and it will be part of my shiny team für the second DLC :D

This video really shined in John’s previous competitive performance and how critical his decisions are and how quick he can make those choices that matter for the many possibilities of opponent Pokémon and move-sets. The Dragapult Counter on Grimmsnarl was glorious and Tsareena dominated.
Surprised to see you guys play one of these challenges in S&S again, but then again you already did this challenge in S&V so I guess you didn't have too much of a choice.

it's remarkable how much more efficient john can be when he actually uses strategy instead of just jumping into things without thinking haha
John plays the clown so often in JMC matches that it's very entertaining to see these moments of him being a damn good battler.
We need more of these catch and battle ones they're probably my favorite ones.

You should've gone after that Metagross and you might've won Michael.
Tyranitar is underrated for a Leon speedrun. It creams Charizard, Cinderace, Dragpult, and Mr. Rime with ease, and can handle Aegislash if you get speed investment. That only leaves Haxorus, which you can deal with using a faster dragon type like Salamence or Garchomp.
Leon's teams generally don't do well again Ghost or Dark types. It's almost as bad as Cynthia's problem with Ice or how Geeta can't handle Lokix.
