- Let's look at cost and return to feeding lambs and kids for the market. If you can increase their value by $25-$50 over the cost of the feed, that soon turns into real money with enough numbers.
Great information!I like your calculations.
Here from Family Farm Homestead! We have a small flock of 9 sheep and I'm thinking of selling some lambs, like these numbers.
That makes a lot of sense. I think those numbers were pretty realistic. Good information, thanks Greg.
Thank you very much
Good info. Thank you.
That is some really tight margins. What about the nanny cost? Or did these kids come out of thin air?
This is only looking at the profitability of feeding a 45 lb. kid up to market weight of 55 lbs. I put a value on the kid cost of $180 at the weight of 45 lbs. That is if you raised them or you bought them. You must charge yourself for that cost of what the kid would be at 45 lbs. I would say that making an extra $25 - $50 or more by feeding that kid to 55 is very good return, probably one of the best returns in Ag, of labor and money. If you have, a couple hundred head it turns into real money pretty easily.
@@grandviewlivestock3936 That makes more sense. I see more where you are coming from. Thanks
