Such a miracle this came up on my feed as I study “Footprints” what a brilliant gathering of genius. Makes me want to live another 40 years! Thank you, all of you shining stars of love.
I heard about her before, but I did not pay enough attention. Now I certainly won't repeat that mistake. She is definitely delivering ample fun here, her input lifts the level of that whole performance of Emmet's band. Let's hope they'll repeat a concert in this lineup. I know that's a strange wish, but those two girls with those three boys make a really exciting conglomerate.
A riveting interpretation of Wayne's simple but timeless composition. The original solos by Wayne, Herbie, and Reggie Workman on bass still set the standard for legions of young talented minds to translate into their own expressions. Well done! 👏🏿
Emmet, you are .... well ... let's not mince our words here !... a GENIOUS!.... but more than that .... a wonderful performer ... bringing music to life and allowing other performers to shine .... love you
Russels explosivity and freedom in his solo reminds of my idol charles mingus. This interpretation strongly reminds me of how Mingus and Dolphy interpreted Jazz. Chapeau!!!
Roy Ayers, Walter Dickerson, Bobby Hutcherson, i hear all the greats but mostly Sasha Berliner. I love how she slowly builds her solo. Nicole Glover and her screaming, vocalizing articulate solo on that vintage Conn or Selmer. What a beautiful sound...her own! Fantastic solos by all. Thanks for posting.
This is how I found Mikki Yamanaka. After this, I subbed to her youTube channel and follow her and Jimmy on Monday nights at Smalls Live. Thanks Emmett. Keep up the good work.
All of you are KILLING ME......it's making me SOOOOO HAPPY! THANK YOU GUYS AND GALS! Just what I needed! So inventive, creative....what a flow...and Emmet....I felt a little Jan Johansson for a minute....fantastic rhythm section...Wayne must be euphoric right about now...lol!!
As I was watching I was already thinking that this is the hippest rendition of this tune I'd seen to date, then y'all got the nerve to top it off by having Miki add her fire to the mix?! Bravo to everyone! Everyone swung their okoles off! Thank you all for sharing your talents.🙏🏽
Also, just curious. There are endless last names out there, obviously, but I am wondering...Miki is often a Japanese woman's name, and Yamanaka is a Japanese last name.....might Yamanka be a mispell?
I have watched this so many freaking times. It's so good. It's like a more modern version of Miles' Second Quintet. It's amazing. And then when Miki Yamanka sits down, it turns more into Coltrane's Classic Quartet. Wtf lol.

glad to see women, we don't hear their point of view very often
Precisely!
:D
Incredible. So true!!
Saucy, yes indeed.
Especially on vibes!
The future of jazz is bright!
What an amazing performance and solo by Nicole!

I love it when Nicole screams on that tenor into the pharoahsphere!!
reminds me of henderson, that scorched tone and those wild runs
Best 21 minutes I've experienced over the last month.
Update: still the best 21 minutes over the last 3 years

12:50 transition parfaite entre pianistes j'adore !
the jazz version of the stars aligning, great tune, great bandleader, great band, great guests, great interplay, great everything
Wayne Shorter would be proud of you guys for tapping into the true essences of that composition...
Vibes: so skilled and creative. Why is Sasha not more famous?
Jazz music is not very highly valued in American society :( But i am glad it has a presence, albeit a bit underground
She's a dynamite soloist.
It doesn’t really matter that she’s a woman. Jazz only makes up about 7% of all music sales if that.
@@davidarbelaez4395 yeah but who said it did
She's very young ... Just got out of high school right?
Emmet, you are .... well ... let's not mince our words here !... a GENIOUS!.... but more than that .... a wonderful performer ... bringing music to life and allowing other performers to shine .... love you
ohhh, wow, Sasha, my heart melts when I listen to you solo and how the band is building up the tension together with you - 5 stars is not enough
Jazz music is alive and thriving......thank God
Russels explosivity and freedom in his solo reminds of my idol charles mingus. This interpretation strongly reminds me of how Mingus and Dolphy interpreted Jazz. Chapeau!!!
Sax and Bass was incredible !!
I had never heard Miki before! So strong! Thanks, Emmet, for showcasing her.

Nicole Glover and her screaming, vocalizing articulate solo on that vintage Conn or Selmer. What a beautiful sound...her own! Fantastic solos by all. Thanks for posting.
How about Gary Burton...Cal Tjader...Tito Puente...Milt Jackson? Love the sound of the instrument when it's played so well...
This is how I found Mikki Yamanaka. After this, I subbed to her youTube channel and follow her and Jimmy on Monday nights at Smalls Live. Thanks Emmett. Keep up the good work.
Wonderful Vibe! I am dying to play with others again! Thank you. You give me a reminder of how it will be again.
Incredible performance

Sasha! Killin.
Very very good.

Good ear.
very similar tune, both in 3 and both c minor blues esque forms
Very nice...
Wonderful piece. But, please, don’t forget, Russel’and Kyle, they always go a really good job, real’good. Thanks to all of you. Did Wayne heard that ?
Whoa I had to back it up in the middle so I could hear that piano solo one more once!
Fair bit of talent in this room...
bravo
Sweet!
Emmet - One question, do you live in an apartment or a house? Just curious since I’d love to hold sessions like this at home. 😊
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Also, just curious. There are endless last names out there, obviously, but I am wondering...Miki is often a Japanese woman's name, and Yamanaka is a Japanese last name.....might Yamanka be a mispell?
As a Japanese I can conform that you are right, yamanaka is the right English spell for 山中 which is her Japanese name
Booooooom demais!
sashaaaaaaa
Nice
Love how propulsive Kyle and Russell are on this.
yep
💜💜💜
It’s all about tone then what you say.
Nicole builds a solo like nobody's business.
You guys are beyond great. I play the tenor (intermediate) and my goal for a while is to transcribe and follow your work Nicole, just amazing!!
Incredible!
Holy shit
... wow. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🎼
Glover is all over it; shades of Shorter and Coltrane, sick
vibe girl gotit
