Leider ja. Mein Verein ist 1. FC Nürnberg. Unser größter Rivale ist Fürth. Die Stadt grenzt direkt an Nürnberg. Dieses Derby hat jetzt schon etwa 265? Mal stattgefunden.
Nice vid, guys👍 Dutch sub here. We have games with brawls and flairs over here too. About the games ending in a tie: Only in tournament competitions games can't end in a tie. F.e. World cup games or national Cup games. The mayor difference between soccer and American Football is the promotion - religation part. See this great video for explanation: ua-cam.com/video/FZ4i3KX2CW4/v-deo.html
That was for practicing your german skills and now in english in a bit more detail. A draw is like a victory for an underdog if he plays against the favorite because he didn´t loose although it was highly expected. And a victory is then a sensation. On the flipside is a draw like a lost game for the favorite. But it´s not only about winning. It´s also about the way the team is playing, the skills of the players (= how they handle the ball with their feet - is it looking graceful or "wooden"), winning tackelings, winning dribbelings, to recognize and use an upcoming momentum.(which you can clearly see on the stands but is it also seen by the players on the pitch...as you can see I didn´t mention "Goal" so far) There´s a lots of psychologie in the game both on the pitch amongst the players and on the stands amongst the fans. It´s an up and down of your feelings with each passing minute for both the players on the pitch and for the fans when they are truely engrossed with every single player of their team during the game. Therefore the chanting is not only to cheer for the team it is also to canalize that rollercoaster of feelings. But a 3rd league game is simply not comparable with the Bundesliga. The quality of the games is by far not as good as like in the Bundesliga ...and a full stadium where both fan sides are chanting loudly has simply an unique atmosphere. And because you are located in Ramstein the nearest Top Bundesliga team is Dortmund they have the socalled "the yellow wall" which is a huge fansector behind the goal just take a look ua-cam.com/video/FGLtwTuZDbU/v-deo.html ....here you will get very likely a high class game combined with good atmosphere ...Cologne is also an nearby option but their team is by far not as good as Dortmund but the atmosphere is also good there as well...they have no "yellow wall" but a real life billy goat which is their mascot.ua-cam.com/video/tFm4Dw6zrSg/v-deo.html And because you mentioned entertainment in the halftime break...It was tried out once..but it was a disaster...a well known and usually beloved female singer performed and got heavily booed out by the whole stadium ..it was hilarious..In Football is simply all and only everything about the game and the team and not about being entertained by someone.
When it comes to third league teams, Kaiserslautern is one of the biggest clubs with the richest tradition, so you do get a good impression of how a soccer match feels. But as you mentioned, it was still fairly empty. So you should do one first league match with a team that has tradition, just to get the whole picture. I guess Frankfurt isn’t too far away and they do have dedicated fans and a nice stadium.
Ya, even though it was nearly empty and third league, it was still a lot of fun! It felt like there was a lot of history there. Thanks for the recommendation! We could easily drive to Frankfurt for that 😊
I'd say not one of the biggest, but the biggest by quite a margin. The only team that comes close in the third is 1860 Munich. I was hoping, that there would be a game between Kaiserslautern and Saarbrücken in the DFB Pokal this season, but sadly it wouldn't happen.
I just came across your channel here and I really love it. I have traveled to Germany several times and have some friends that live in North Rhineland Wesfalia. I really love Germany and it is fantastic getting your perspective. I am living vicariously through you because a fantasy for me would be to live in Germany. I have subscribed and look forward to seeing more of your vlogs. By the way I am also learning German but probably not as intensively as you.
Hey, glad you found us!
You must go to the first League, and then come to Dortmund Stadion there are 85.000 in the Stadion and at the yellow Wall there are 25.000 they have no seats they Are Amazing 😁😁😁 they called yellow wall
Somebody else just recommended Dortmund and seeing the Yellow Wall as well! Must be amazing for so many people recommending it! Thanks for the suggestion 😊
Passport Two yeah try it and you will see 🙈 but its not easy to get Tickets, the Tickets are realy rare and they cost 50€ but you can travel with the Train for free with your Ticket 😁✌🏾#hejaBVB🖤💛
If you want to experience football pure, you need to go into the Ruhr Area. Dortmund or Schalke naturally being the king of the Revier. Learn the "Steigerlied" before your go to either. It's kind of funny, those two clubs are at each other throats constantly, except when either the Steigerlied is sung or the ticker shows that Bayern München is a goal behind. In those moments, they suddenly sing and cheer together.
swanpride thats right Dortmund-Schalke is the biggest derby in Germany 🙈 But these Tickets Are sooo rare that you must buy these one year before matchday 🙈
There are always tickets sold from fan to fan on matchday. You naturally need some luck, but it is not completely impossible if you are ready to take a risk, are early and aren't too shy to just ask the people walking towards the stadium if they have a ticket or two left.
Something I noticed about US sporting events is that these are more of a family outing than fans coming to see an exiting game. Whole families, fathers, mothers with their children wearing the team jerseys and with their picknick baskets on the stands. I even saw them at an icehockey game in Phoenix, az. Fans of opposing teams sitting on the same stands. You won't see that at European soccer matches! A fan of the opponent isn't a fan of the opponent, it's the enemy! That's why sometimes a soccermatch spins out of control.
Wow, we didn't realize that this is characteristic of American sporting events but now that you mention it, you are totally right! Nice observation, thanks for pointing it out! 😊
How funny, I was at that game probably. My friend and I have seasontickets for Kaiserslautern. We were standing in front of you in the standing area singing along. Had no idea you live in Lautern
Really enjoyed your video... the frustration… after a tied match!! In a league match it’s something normal. A game can just end tied. In other competitions, at some point, it has to have a winner. On some - most - there are different phases. Usually there’s a group phase and after there’s the elimination phase, and only on elimination phases there always has to have a winner. If the 90mins end in a tie, there’s the overtime, and if the overtime end in a tie also, there’s the free kick phase to find the winner.
Glad you enjoyed it 😊 and thanks for the explanation! Ya, we aren’t used to the tied and we like it being finalized to know for sure who was the better team that night. We’re going to keep learning about it and try to pay more attention to the different leagues and championships happening 😁

@@PassportTwo Think FIFA World Cup (or any other such tournament): you have the group stage, where ties are possible, and then you have the knockout stage, where the top two of each group get whittled down to one winner. In the knockout stage, each match *must* have a winner, and that's when you might see a penalty shoot-out.
I would just add to Paulo's answer and say that in a league format there is 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw (tie) and 0 for a loss so it provides incentive to win during the 90 mins playing time. When MLS launched in the USA at the time of the 1994 World Cup they tried to make it more appealing to American crowds by having shoot outs. This was the usual shots from the penalty spot but where a player would do an ice hockey style dribble / run with the ball towards the goal and try to beat the goalkeeper. MLS strugles with popularity in it's initial years partly because, as you said, football (sorry, I can't bring myself to say the 's' word) isn't traditionally an American sport like American Football or Basketball, but partly because real football fans in the USA didn't like these rules that seem bizarre to anyone that knows how it is played everywhere else. It was like watching a weird game show rather than a serious sporting event. The only times that come to mind where we have had similar rules in European or world football (I can't speak for other national or continental competitions around the world) have been things like the 'away goal rule'* often used in continental competitions such as the UEFA Champions League or the 'golden / silver goal rule'** used briefly in international competitions. *Away goal rule = When teams play both home and away legs in a cup competition and the aggregate score across both matches is a draw, then the team that scored the most goals away from home wins to go through to the next round. ** Golden goal rule = When in a knockout competition the match ends in a draw they will usually play 2 more periods of 15 minutes each (called exra time, similar to over time in the USA) to try to find a winner. For a while they tried having golden goal or silver goal extra time (so-called because they thought that the old name of sudden death sounded bad). Under the golden goal rule if a team scored in extra time playing stopped immediately and that team won. The silver goal was similar except instead of the match ending immediately they continued until the end of that half of extra time and if the score didn't change then the team that scored won. The golden / silver goal were not popular and didn't last long before the reverted to old format of 2 x 15 minutes extra time followed by a penalty shoot out if there was still no winner.
Cold and rainy= typical weather! Remember LAST week when it was sunny 3 days in a row? Looks like a fun time. My husband and I will have to go check it out. Thanks for sharing!
My mother took me to my first football (=Fußball, I'm not saying soccer ':D) game when I was 11, 15 years ago. Been a fan ever since. My favourite team is TuS Koblenz, a small club also from Rheinland-Pfalz, who plays in fifth league, together with clubs like Trier (our fans main opponents), Bingen or Worms. Koblenz once played second Bundesliga together with Kaiserslautern and Mainz but the people in the club made a lot of stupid decisions including money which resulted in the club's crash down to fifth league. Everything is smaller and a lot more close-knitted than in professional football, like the stadiums or the crowds and our players are mostly students and not professionals, but when we play against Trier we still have several thousand spectators and fans singing and cheering so loud that I, personally, don't miss second league much. One of my first away-games with Koblenz I went to in 2006 was in Kaiserslautern. Back then there were a lot more home fans at the games, both home and guest-sections were packed, and when our fans entered the guest spot it was so loud that I felt like the sound alone would blast me back out of the stadium. It was so impressive. Plus, the singing really makes you feel connected to your team's fan crowd and your team and you try to out-cheer the other side even when you're less people.
haha, no problem about not calling it soccer! We know our country is in the minority for that 😊 Sad to hear about the fall of your team but that Trier game does sound like a lot of fun! Thanks for sharing your stories about the fun games you have been to 😃
Fascinating video, your perspective on Germany is always so refreshing!! About the game: There are basically two types of games: Season games and championship games. Clubs playing during the season gain points at the rate of three points for the winner and one point each for ties. Of course, if you lose, you get zero points. So, as you accumulate points during the whole season, and there is no reason to go into overtime. Check the Bundesliga.com page, under Tabelle and see the current standings, right now the second half of the season has just started, it's a total of 34 games, 17 between August and December and 17 between January and May. When it comes to championships, the thing is a little different. During the initial stages, they accumulate points (which allows for ties) in order to start the elimination process. But once you get to the late stages, there must be a winner, which means that there must be OT if there is no winner at the end of the 90 minute regular time. Two periods of 15 minutes each, and still, if there is no winner, then the shoot out takes place. Try to secure a couple of tickets for a Bundesliga 1 game, it's sure to be an awesome experience. Cheers!!
If it's a league game there can be draws (ties). If it's a cup game they play until there's a winner (penalty shootout if necessary). Every country has multiple leagues (in order of abilty) and either 1 or 2 major cup competitions ( p.s. teams from different leagues in the country can end up playing each other in the cups). Sorry don't know if someone has already explained this in German
It is just 3rd league, but it is "strong" because there are playing a lot of former Bundesliga clubs...So, Kaiserslautern is a competitor of my home town club, MSV Duisburg, and for my club it is looking very good to become a club of 2. Bundesliga in summer ;-) But, as we German say...."There was a horse puking in front of the drug store" (don't know the real translation) ;-) In German: Man hat Pferde schon vor der Apotheke kotzen sehen.....which means, that it could happen so fast to become a loser although you was on top ;-)
Soccer can end in a tie if it's a leauge game, they each team got 1league point if the game end tie, if the one team win they got 3 league points, and the lose one didn't got any points. But if it's a cup it's can't end with tie, they will continue play in extra time, and if it's still tie, they will play in penalty shootout to decide who win the game
Not so far away from Kaiserslautern, you should go to Frankfurt to watch Eintracht Frankfurt play. They play in 1st Bundesliga, and their fans are amongst the loudest in Europe. The Stadium is very nice too. It is definitely an ambiance you may never see in the US for sport events. You have also Mainz which is a bit closer, but their Stadium is also smaller than Frankfurt one (approx. the same size as Kaiserslautern).
Thanks for the suggestion! We have had a few other people who have said since we are close to this great atmosphere, we really should go check it out! Since so many of you have recommended this, I think we really will have to soon 😊
You should've visited the Kaiserslautern game in the DFB-Pokal, there were a lot more people and the match was against a first league team. We (they) lost, but the atmosphere, in the first half especially, was great.
Ya, of course not being aware of the schedule or how the leagues work made us miss this better game only a week later! We will keep our eye out for these better games now! 😊 It sounded like a lot of fun!
Jede Mannschaft in Deutschland spielt in zwei Wettbewerben. Beim DFB-Pokal nimmt jede Fußballmannschaft in Deutschland teil.
In German Football, a lot is about tradition. 1. FC Kaiserslautern is one of the big traditional football clubs in Germany. From the beginning of the Bundesliga, they played in the first league, they went down to the second leage the first time in 1996 and they went down to the third league the first time in 2018. So it is not the typical 3rd league club. They had been champion of Germany (1. League) in 1990 and 1998. So for the third league, you could not pick better.
so I've been to a soccer game only once but it was a 'derby' between nürnberg and fürth, where the tension is extra strong and crazy and the whole stadium was full of loud people
In the leagues ties just give 1 point to each, the games that can end in penalties are knock out tournaments like the DFB-Pokal, the second half of the Champions League, Europa League and the international tournaments. Also a shame that you didn't get to experience a full stadium I don't know if that was because it was in the 3. Liga or because of covid restrictions or something like that. Also the atmosphere can get absolutely electrifying especially in games against rivals or games where there is a lot on the line like games to qualify for something like a promotion to the league above or qualifying for the Champions League. Also really unlucky that you went to a game without any goals cause sometimes the crowd really explodes when goals are scored.
On the QI quiz show which appears on the BBC in the UK (and maybe also in the USA?) they revealed that apparently the name 'soccer' actually originally came from England around 1890). Back then rugby (properly called 'rugby football') and football / soccer (properly called 'association football') were younger they were often colloquially called 'rugger' and 'soccer'. However it is only really in the USA and a few other countries where soccer has continued to be the popular name (www.quora.com/Why-is-football-called-soccer-in-Australia-NZ-South-Africa-and-many-Asian-countries?share=1).
Was my first Soccer Stadium, I was there when I was 5 years old. In this time, the Betzenberg with his red devils was in the first division. When Lock down is over, try to go into a derby, much more atmosphere ;) Or if one of the big clubs in coming, like Bayern, Dortmund etc. And hey, in the moment Hoppe is the first american made a hettrick or a trippel in the first division... Overtimes are in KO system or finals. in the Bundesliga there is a "Punktesystem", means 3 Points if you have win, 1 for equality game and 0 for loosers... But I love your videos!
@@PassportTwo Das klingt doch schon mal sehr gut.
My last visit to the Fritz Walter Stadium was earlier the same season as your game. My game, against FC Ingolstadt, also ended 0-0. It was the first time I'd ever seen 1FCK NOT lose. I've never seen them score, having lost 0-2 in my only other visit back in 2015.
I have relatives near Kaiserslautern and get to watch games fairly often when i visit. Sadly the stadium is way too big for a third league team, which doesn't help the atmosphere. Btw. if you didn't know FC Kaiserlautern's biggest rivals are Mannheim and Mainz. You should check out Mainz or Frankfurt. Fairly close cities to Kaiserlautern that have first league teams. If you are really hooked on soccer, go watch a game of the two biggest clubs in Germany, Dortmund and Bayern (Munich).
In league matches you gain 3 points for winning, 0 for losing and 1 for a tie. There is simply no need for a winner. However in elimination stages of tournaments if after 90 minutes no team has emerged victorious, the match gets another 30 minutes added, devided into 2 smaller half times of 15 minutes each. If even then no team has bested the other team, it usually comes to the penalty shootout after which a winner is basically guaranteed. There has been other forms of deciding a winner after a tie, like golden goal (suddendeath) and flipping a coin (yes, really) but they have been scratched over the years.
In Germany and most if not all Eurpean countries we have the League (Bundesliga) and the Cup (DFB-Pokal). The Bundesliga will show the best team of a whole season. There is no Play-off or Finale. If you win you get 3 points, 1 point for a draw and 0 if you lose. The best Teams from the Bundesliga also go play against other European Teams the next in in The Champions league and the Europe League. And some teams have to leave the league after the season and move to the lower tier 2.bundesliga. Having the point system vs just win/loses will give more options to get the needed points and distinguish between the place in the League. The Pokal is 100% play offs with a Finale usually in May. There we need a winner so it might end up in overtime and a penalty shot out to determine a winner who goes into the next round.
Thanks for the explanation! It is a completely different league set up than we are used to so we are going to have to study it and make sure we are aware of whats going on. We are excited to be here when ever some of the Championships happen so we can feel the buzz in the city 😊
Now go to the Bundesliga match with 50K+ spectator. I have watched US pro leagues in different sports, but You can not beat European soccer atmosphere.
Where did the US word soccer originate? As in US football (or Grid Iron football as we called it when I was young) actually sees feet used far, far less, why wasn't the game called American Rugby?
Soccer games can end in ties, because it's not the single game that counts. It's the season that counts. And always only one soccer team will win the season (if there really should be a tie at the end of the season, then there are rules to determine a winner). To win the season there is a simple point system: Each won game is 3 points, each tie is 1 point, each lost game is zero points.
Kaiserlautern isn't what they used to be in the 1990s. In those times, the stadium was full to the last seat. If you want to see a first class match, you now have to go to Mainz, Hoffenheim, Frankfurt or Cologne.
It ended in a draw because it was a league game. Knock-out games which need a clear winner only happen in tournament style events like the world cup. In those games if the score is tied at the end an extra 30 minutes of overtime is played. If there is still a draw after that, there will be a penalty shoot-out to determine the winner.
Actually, ties ARE possible in the NFL, if no team scores any points in OT for too long. It's very rare, though, like once or twice per season at most, whereas in soccer, like one-third of all matches end in draws.
You should go there tomorrow wehere there's a cup match against Düsseldorf, who are playing in the first league. That means one: There will be much more visitors (propably around 35k) and two: there can't be a draw as all cup games are played in "playoff mode" so there must be a winner. Lautern already kicked out Mainz and Nuernberg in this cup season both of whitch are pleaing in a higher league than FCK.
Oh! We had heard from some people that it was tonight and we aren't able to do it tonight. Thanks for the heads up! We may look into doing that and going to see it 😃
So cool that both of you got to go to a soccer game over in Germany. It looks like you both had a great time. Aubrey had the songs down :). I went to a soccer match in Munich (Bayern) once and I would surely like to go again one day. I would also like to check out the soccer match where you had watched the game as well. This video is nine months old now but have you been to any other games yet? I am guessing that Donnie is an Aggie and not sure where Aubrey Alum is located (south somewhere lol). I am a Florida Gator. The Aggies got us this year ughhhhhh lol. Anyways, another fine example of a great video. I am loving the outtakes and of course both of your personalities :):):).
Unfortunately we haven't been to another yet. It wasn't too long after this that COVID happened and dashed those hopes of going to another. Would LOVE to go to an FC Bayern game! Hear great things about that experience! I (Donnie) am certainly an Aggie! I went to the first matchup between Florida and A&M when we moved to the SEC in 2012. Was a tough "welcome" into the SEC for us 😂 Aubrey is a Baylor university graduate which is in Waco, Texas, about an hour and a half north of A&M. 😊
@@PassportTwo The Bayern game I went to was awesome. It was so loud that my ears were ringing for three hours after the game lol. Very cool to hear of your Almas's. I am a season ticket holder at Florida. I was watching the 2012 UF/Aggie game form my hotel room at the Edelweiss in Garmisch. Pretty awesome :).
Life is not only about winning but also about standing your ground. Of course, winning is the preferred outcome. Not loosing comes right next, doesn't it? So being able to stop the enemy team is as valuable. A game allowing this option also supports more nuanced play and tactical options. Of course this only works on a long running league. A short competition like European or World Championships or Olympics doesn't have room for that, at least not during the final rounds. This is why extension and penalty shooting will be added to force a clear win.
I totally get what you are saying. I would definitely make a broad generalization that part of American culture is a “win vs lose” mentality. There is a mentality that there is no other option than winning. If you don’t win, you lose. It’s like we sometimes say “2nd place is just first loser” or “if you’re not first, you’re last.” We love to turn everything into a competition, we got the best test score, who ran to the car to drive in the front seat, who ate the fastest, etc. It’s a strange phenomena built into our psyche and who we are! (Again, this is a broad over generalization) But then again, as so many people have replied in the comments, technically, NFL games can end in ties also. 🤷🏻♂️ It’s just something for us to observe in this country and to learn from! It is an interesting set up and we enjoy seeing it 😊
@@PassportTwo I went to Texas A & M from 1981 to 1983 but for personal reasons couldn't finish college. I loved my time in CS-B, made great friends, iis my unforgetable time of life. Now I watch your channel because I married a german citizen and my older son is already living in Freiburg Im Breisgau (loved that video of yours) and hopefully this year my youngest son is leavingto Germany too. My wife and I will be moving to Germany in a few months, your videos are fun and informative. Keep up the great work your are doing!
You were at A&M the same time as my father! He also didn’t graduate from A&M, but was there the same couple of years as you. Good luck on your move and we pray the best for you in Germany! 😊
My greatest respect! You as americans are watching a german third division soccer game! ( I'm not going to say anything about Kaiserslautern :-)) Still, I like your channel!
@@PassportTwo Thanks for your answer.!. wow.. My girlfriend lives in Ramstein, I come from Saarland. I would just be glad, we had 1. Bundesliga in our region again. (wether in the Palatinate or in th Saarland) But I don't think, I'll ever see that again...
you should try to get to a first tier game, it's even better. overtime and penalty kick shootouts happens when they are playing in cups/tournaments, where a definite winner is needed.
You only need a winner in a tournament but not in normal league game. In a tournament you need a winner to go on to the next round. In a league game you collect points over the whole saison. Winner gets 3 points and a draw is 1 Point for both. In a Tournament you go on with 2x 15 minutes, and after that it Comes to the Penalty shootout.
If you get a chance to visit Liverpool and even luckier to get tickets to watch liverpool fc in Anfield you’ll make your best ever video, you will never forget your visit
I love go watching especially when my croatian national team is playing. That is always a bit different than when clubs play. As a kid I couldn't care much about football, but the older I get the better I find it. American football for example I never really watched... When the Superbowl is on I will watch the halftime performance the next day on youtube xD American football for me personally seems interesting only in movies. EDIT: If you want a lot of goals, handball is amazing as well. I guess it is totally unknown in the US but in Europe it is quite popular. In January 2020 we had the European cup and probably the matches are still on the website of EHF available to watch. If you want a dramatic game watch the semi-final of my country Croatia against Norway.
The stadium you where is called "Fritz-Walter-Stadium" and the Rain is called "Fritz-Walter-Wetter". Every german (!) knows what this means. Just look it up. Fritz Walter is from Kaiserslautern and led the german team to its first world-championchip in 1954 along with his brother and 3 other teammates from Kaiserslautern. It marks the start of modern germany after WWII. A national hero. de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fritz_Walter
Soccer games that are played in leagues can end in ties. That's just the way it is (used to happen in American football & hockey -- & technically still happens at some levels). The penalty shootout only happens in a tournament where a winner must be decided -- like the World Cup knockout rounds.
I watched the FCK kick the rears of many a team at die Betze. Fun and inexpensive. Because soccer games are shorter than American Football, you can even save money by getting a Stehplatz (standing place) versus a seat. The Westkurve at the K-Town stadium give you the best view.
I have only ever had one brat here that I haven't liked...and it wasn't at the soccer game. haha, they were very good! I would say not too different from some that you can get yourself in the USA, but of course they taste more special being here 😊
Make a 1 hour drive to Frankfurt and see a Match of Eintracht Frankfurt! Kaiserslautern used to be a really big deal in German football, but over the last 10 years, they have sufferd from bad management and poor financial decisions.
Kaiserslautern used to be a 1st league team, that is why they have such a big stadium. But it is mostly empty now, since almost nobody is interested in 3rd league games. They are not even covered in most nationwide analyst shows. It's reall just of very very local interest and traveling with your home team to another stadium becomes exceedingly rare. That's why the opposing team had almost no fans there and the stadium was empty. Games ends in ties, when they are regular league games for multiple reasons. One is to make sure players don't get overly exhausted if their games tend to end in ties. It would be a real handicap if you had to play extra time every week on such a high level. So league games do not have the overtime and penalty kicks. Also if games end in penalty kicks it is really just luck. It would be kind of unfair to send a team home with nothing when they really were equally strong as their opponents. Ties ensure a more fair average score in the league so you can't get booted out just because you suck at penalty kicks. There is overtime and penalty kivks in Fußball, but they only happen in K.O: matches in tournaments. When one game has to decide which team is going to advance or win a championship.
Football or as you refer to it as soccer, the league matches can end in ties, the extra time and penalty shootouts are just in KO matches likes DFB Pokal, or the past groupstages of Europa League, Champions League, continental championships likes Europameisterschaft or the WorldCup. I would recommend to you to watch a Champions League Match. That's a complete different level, that's why it's called Königsklasse kingsclass in english.
Keywords: Handball, Rhein-Neckar Löwen Mannheim, SAP Arena Mannheim
You're right. We realized this after the fact because I really only watch college football and catch an NFL game every now and then. I don't know if I have ever actually watched an NFL game end in a tie myself so I didn't even really realize that could happen. Thanks for pointing that out 😊
Funny you should say there is more action in American football. Seems to me there’s a lot lot of standing around and waiting, 4 quarters takes 4 hrs...
Haha, you’re absolutely right! We were thinking priestly about how much scoring happens but there is a lot more standing around!

Americans (at least with two of their biggest sports, Baseball and Football) take this as events, not pure matches. And the other factor is TV and ads. :D
It's a bit of a shame you didn't experience FCK, say, 20 years ago. I live a bit to the north but I liked to visit while they were playing in 1st league. Great atmosphere. Such a shame that his old club fell on such hard times and has been stuck down there for so long. Flares and brawls are unfortunately quite common when regional teams play against each other. It's sometimes wise to know who is playing who and when and plan travel by train accordingly to NOT run into tight police security or find yourself in the middle of a brawl, even though you're not a fan of either team ...
Ya...that’s what we’ve heard about the old glory days...hopefully they will make a surge back up to the 1st while we are here and we can experience it 😉
quicktip :D the game you shoot a ball with your foot is called football, the game where you throw an egg with your hands is... make ist sense to call it football to? :D
I have nothing against such a match. But to really feel it, you have to go to a derby match. And to top it, it should be something like Dortmund vs. Schalke or similar.
There are tie´s in football matches because of the table rules, its a league after all and for every match the teams gets points: 3 points for winning, 0 for losing and 1 point for a tie. Who ever is first in the table at the end of a season wins it.
So you went to Texas A&M and saw all those Aggie Yell Leaders? That's basically what the drummers and the "Capo" is all about - they are trying to hype the fans up. Althouh they are part of the Kaiserslautern-Ultras, who you cannot compare to the US cheerleaders on 1 to 1 basis.
Wow, I didn't want to get into the weeds of this video by trying to explain Yell Leaders but I'm impressed that you know about them! haha, thanks for the comparison though to better explain 😊
@@PassportTwo I actually went to a high school in Boerne, Texas, as an exchange student. And was always disappointed by the lack of group-cheers on friday nights - compared to German soccer games. I had a huge appreciation for all people in Band, Cheerleader and Royalettes though. Liga :)
Since you're from KTown Frankfurt would be a got opportunity to watch a game. The Eintracht fans definitely belong to the best (if not THE best) in german. It's not that far way -about 70 mils - and a train ticket is about 18,- Euros. Really great atmosphere.
@@PassportTwo Yes it's worth it: .50,000 People when it's sold out (most of the time it's sold out) and no "Hooligans". Eintracht Frankfurt plays "Bundesliga" that's Germany's top league and is also playing in the "Euro League" this season. Because these are knock out games I can't say for how long. Next Euro league game is on Feb 20th against Salzburg (Austria) but I'm afraid it's already sold out This is a POV Video before last years game against Lisbon:: ua-cam.com/video/VXIlOejR89s/v-deo.html and here's a short summary from last weeks win against Augsburg (5:0) where Timothy Chandler (he's German/American and played in the US National Soccer Team es well) scored 2 times. It was a great game for him: ua-cam.com/video/sW1GQ1I1diE/v-deo.html Anyway, if you manag to get tickets for a game you can combine it with a weekend in Frankfurt and a visit in either one of the many traditional Sachsenhausen restaurants (locals tourists 50/50) or Bornheim (more locals, more younger people). As I am from Frankfurt I can give you a few hints if you like. Feel yourself welcome!
Dude...Frankfurt shows very good coreos but has some of the worst fans. I know what I'm talking about, I have one of themin my office right across the table
I think someone else also mentioned that Cologne is the only one that has them but I haven’t gotten to look in and verify if there are any others...thanks 😊
You also could visit Berlin wich has 2 1st League Clubs if you did enjoyed Soccer. More "familiary" atmosphere: 1. FC Union (aka "The Iron") or you visit Hertha BFC (aka "The old Lady"). Hertha plays in the Olympic Station, 1. FC Union plays at the "Alte Försterei" (old forestry) wich is smaler and has maybe a better Atmosphere.. :)
Even without Covid-19, it is almost impossible to get tickets for Union (except for the away end). Their stadium is relativly small. Hertha on the other hand play in such a huge stadium, that they are almost never sold out. However, Hertha's stadium is a marvel of fascist architecture. It is built to make you feel small and insignificant (and it somehow is always cold, even in summer). If you really want to understand what soccer is about in Germany, go to an amateur game. The crowds are much smaller, of course, but the Regionalliga (4th tier) and Oberliga (5th tier) are where you find the truely batshit crazy people. People who have tattoos of a club almost noone outside their town has ever heard of, old geezers who still remember the glorious days back in the 60sm when they almost managed to win promotion to the first league... A (non-complete) list of good examples from all over Germany are: TuS Koblenz (5th tier), Tennis Borussia Berlin (4th tier, my team), Rot-Weiß Essen (4th tier), Altona 96 (4th tier once again), Chemie Leipzig (4th tier). Or even your local village's Kreisliga side. Admissions are cheaper and the food tends to be a lot better (especially if it is one of the teams of one of the immigrant communities).
22 grown men chasing a ball for 90 minutes straight and getting nothing done except for dropping to the ground and crying when someone looks at them the wrong way. It's obvious why it's the most popular team sport on the planet. *cough*
Have you ever been to a game where the atmosphere was like some of those we have seen on UA-cam with the flares and brawls??
Leider ja. Mein Verein ist 1. FC Nürnberg. Unser größter Rivale ist Fürth. Die Stadt grenzt direkt an Nürnberg. Dieses Derby hat jetzt schon etwa 265? Mal stattgefunden.
What you have seen on YT were most likely "Derbies" ... Two rivalry clubs and their hardcore "fans".
See this great video for explanation:

Your minds would be have been blown if you actually went to a big team stadium in Germany or England when you could actually understand the songs.
And because you are located in Ramstein the nearest Top Bundesliga team is Dortmund they have the socalled "the yellow wall" which is a huge fansector behind the goal just take a look ua-cam.com/video/FGLtwTuZDbU/v-deo.html ....here you will get very likely a high class game combined with good atmosphere
...Cologne is also an nearby option but their team is by far not as good as Dortmund but the atmosphere is also good there as well...they have no "yellow wall" but a real life billy goat which is their mascot.ua-cam.com/video/tFm4Dw6zrSg/v-deo.html
And because you mentioned entertainment in the halftime break...It was tried out once..but it was a disaster...a well known and usually beloved female singer performed and got heavily booed out by the whole stadium ..it was hilarious..In Football is simply all and only everything about the game and the team and not about being entertained by someone.
In Germany they have tried to implement some kind of half-time entertainment in Cup-competition but failed because the fans hated it ... :D
ya...a lot of people have told us about the female singer who got booed off stage and it kind of ended after her performance...haha

@@PassportTwo "brauchen" 😉 ("brauch" is the imperative that actually is not being used for this particular verb)
Ah! That’s an easy thing I know but I still messed up! That’s why I want the practice 😊 thanks!

Watching this video in my kitchen right now with a perfect view over the Betzenberg stadium
Nice! Small world 😊 Sounds like an awesome location for a place to live!
Cold and rainy= typical weather! Remember LAST week when it was sunny 3 days in a row? Looks like a fun time. My husband and I will have to go check it out. Thanks for sharing!
That was amazing when it was sunny 3 days in a row...I felt so reenergized!
We know our country is in the minority for that 😊
Sad to hear about the fall of your team but that Trier game does sound like a lot of fun!
Cheers!!
Glad you find it refreshing! 😊 Thanks so much for all that information!! We will definitely be looking for a Bundesliga 1 game to get to.
National Concussion League games can end in a tie. But it's so rare the CTE patients playing don't seem to know. Look it up.
Also in the leagues it 3 point for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss
They have, but that is fine I always appreciate the help! 😊
It is just 3rd league, but it is "strong" because there are playing a lot of former Bundesliga clubs...So, Kaiserslautern is a competitor of my home town club, MSV Duisburg, and for my club it is looking very good to become a club of 2. Bundesliga in summer ;-) But, as we German say...."There was a horse puking in front of the drug store" (don't know the real translation) ;-) In German: Man hat Pferde schon vor der Apotheke kotzen sehen.....which means, that it could happen so fast to become a loser although you was on top ;-)
haha, what a wild saying! I haven't learned that one yet 😂
Playing a round ball mostly with feed is called Football!. Playing an oval objekt with hands is called american handegg ;)
Haha, we definitely know we are in the minority calling it soccer 😊
@@PassportTwo 😉 so you call your feeds soc and a ball cer? Hihi 😁
When Lock down is over, try to go into a derby, much more atmosphere ;)
Or if one of the big clubs in coming, like Bayern, Dortmund etc.

Loved the video!!! I hope to do this someday!
Thanks so much 😊 Absolutely, we may have been bitten by the bug and want to see a lot more now ourselves! haha
Close to your aera where you live,
the clubs of Eintracht Frankfurt, Mainz 05, 1.FC Köln or SC Freiburg could be very interesting for you.
I grew up close to KL and had season tickets to their games from when I was a first grader. I miss the atmosphere...
That’s awesome! We definitely want to check one of those teams out as soon as we can and get a big soccer game experience. 😊
Wow, flipping a coin to decide a winner?? That would make me go nuts as a player! Thanks for the information 😊
We really would love to do so! It does seem to be on a different level of intensity and excitement. Hopefully soon! 😊
That’s what we’ve heard about the old days for FCK. Wish we could have seen them in the glory days!
the Bezenberg is 30-40 min. away from my place i was never there the 1FCK was the German Champion in Soccer
I am really sad for you guys that you didnt witness a goal, words cant describe that moment. Greetings from Berlin (HaHoHe!)
Sometimes a tie can be a win. Especially if you're at the bottom and tieing a stronger team. You still get points.
We are learning this system more and more and although it is very different from what we are used to, we can see the pros of it like this one 😊
It’s just something for us to observe in this country and to learn from! It is an interesting set up and we enjoy seeing it 😊
Great! You are an Aggie! Love your channel!
Absolutely! Born and bred 😊 Glad you enjoy!

you should try to get to a first tier game, it's even better. overtime and penalty kick shootouts happens when they are playing in cups/tournaments, where a definite winner is needed.
That is what we are hoping to do! Thanks for the information also 😊
You only need a winner in a tournament but not in normal league game. In a tournament you need a winner to go on to the next round. In a league game you collect points over the whole saison. Winner gets 3 points and a draw is 1 Point for both. In a Tournament you go on with 2x 15 minutes, and after that it Comes to the Penalty shootout.
Sounds like a tournament may be more satisfying for us since we always want to see a winner and a loser haha
@@PassportTwo Next big Tournament this year is the Europameisterschaft 2020. It starts on 12th june and the final game is on 12th july.
When the Superbowl is on I will watch the halftime performance the next day on youtube xD
American football for me personally seems interesting only in movies.
Ya, our German friend who took us to the game explained a little bit about "Fritz-Walter-Wetter." Thanks for all the information and the link! 😊
Having never been to a soccer game myself I’m wondering, how were the brats?
I have only ever had one brat here that I haven't liked...and it wasn't at the soccer game. haha, they were very good! I would say not too different from some that you can get yourself in the USA, but of course they taste more special being here 😊
Try also a Handballmatch (handboll)! Its a very highspeeded match. THW Kiel is the Leader of the Handball Bundesliga.
Ya! We have added this to our list to go see because so many people have told us how cool these games can be! Thanks for the suggestion 😊
Make a 1 hour drive to Frankfurt and see a Match of Eintracht Frankfurt! Kaiserslautern used to be a really big deal in German football, but over the last 10 years, they have sufferd from bad management and poor financial decisions.
Ya! Some other people have recommended us drive over to Frankfurt and see that team. We will probably do so soon! 😊
Ramstein area (Landstuhl etc) to Frankfurt about 90 mins
Thanks so much for all this great information! We will look out for those games 😊
Keywords: Handball, Rhein-Neckar Löwen Mannheim, SAP Arena Mannheim
With kids, you might have to consider, they learn some new swear words, when you bring them to the stadion.
Actually NFL games can end with a tie after overtime. It's not like in college where they add overtimes until there is a winner.
Are you kidding me? You are only Entertainer If
entertained If someone gets tackled really hard.
Thanks for the help and explanation 😊
Passport Two You‘re welcome
Maybe you should check out german ice hockey. Mannheim vs eisbären Berlin always have great atmosphere.
To me as a foreigner they seemed to be much more committed than most of the fans in the bleachers ;-) Btw: My host dad attended A&M, too.
You were in the West Curve, that's where the true fans are, BEST sits in the house!
Ya, we loved it! Want to go back soon. Wished we could have made it to the Düsseldorf game last night!!
@@PassportTwo Next home game will be this Saturday @ 1400hrs against SC Preußen Münster. Maybe we will see you there! :-)
We’ll be traveling this weekend but maybe the next 😊
Liga :)
Since you're from KTown Frankfurt would be a got opportunity to watch a game. The Eintracht fans definitely belong to the best (if not THE best) in german. It's not that far way -about 70 mils - and a train ticket is about 18,- Euros. Really great atmosphere.
Thanks so much for the suggestion! That would be close and easy for us to get to. We’ll try and check them out 👍🏼
@@PassportTwo Yes it's worth it: .50,000 People when it's sold out (most of the time it's sold out) and no "Hooligans". Eintracht Frankfurt plays "Bundesliga" that's Germany's top league and is also playing in the "Euro League" this season. Because these are knock out games I can't say for how long. Next Euro league game is on Feb 20th against Salzburg (Austria) but I'm afraid it's already sold out
This is a POV Video before last years game against Lisbon:: ua-cam.com/video/VXIlOejR89s/v-deo.html
and here's a short summary from last weeks win against Augsburg (5:0) where Timothy Chandler (he's German/American and played in the US National Soccer Team es well) scored 2 times. It was a great game for him: ua-cam.com/video/sW1GQ1I1diE/v-deo.html
Anyway, if you manag to get tickets for a game you can combine it with a weekend in Frankfurt and a visit in either one of the many traditional Sachsenhausen restaurants (locals tourists 50/50) or Bornheim (more locals, more younger people). As I am from Frankfurt I can give you a few hints if you like. Feel yourself welcome!
Caramba Mamba ??? You didn’t tell them that Frankfurt has „The best Fans“ ? You should see a psychologist to get help dude! ;)
@@pumi12 That's you're opinion but where's the argument? You know what an argument is?
Dude...Frankfurt shows very good coreos but has some of the worst fans. I know what I'm talking about, I have one of themin my office right across the table
there are some cheerleaders in the first league i think
in collogne are some at least
I think someone else also mentioned that Cologne is the only one that has them but I haven’t gotten to look in and verify if there are any others...thanks 😊
@@PassportTwo ok i live in collogne so i was only at games in the collogne stadium thats why i thaught that idk
FC Union plays at the "Alte Försterei" (old
forestry) wich is smaler and has maybe a better Atmosphere.. :)
We've had a few others also suggest going to some of these games in Berlin, it must be really fun! Thanks so much for the suggestion 😃
You should see a Handball game, more goals are scored there! Rhein Necar Löwen in Mannheim!
I’ve only ever seen handball games on TV during the Olympics! That’s a great suggestion! Thanks! 😊
22 grown men chasing a ball for 90 minutes straight and getting nothing done except for dropping to the ground and crying when someone looks at them the wrong way.
It's obvious why it's the most popular team sport on the planet.
*cough*
hard-core fans can get excited about ties, they will appreciate the moves
Das macht also Sinn!
Tolles Video
Vielen Dank!
