When I was 17 years old my girlfriends mom told me that if I learned this song on guitar then I could marry her daughter. I was new to guitar, but I sat down and learned it that night. Happy times
First heard this song over 25 years ago when my grandfather died. Was playing in the car the night before the funeral and it started to snow in Charleston, SC. First real snowfall and there was never a snowstorm again like it. Almost like he brought the snow -- I was 6 years old and always wanted to build a snowman and he knew that. :) thx for the snow grand pop!!!
Brandon Rivers Never knew my granddad, still this story speaks to me of the love you had for him and how simple things like snow falling can make us remember the ones that loved us and made us who we are. 6 or 600, the greatest thing is love, and he will forever be in your heart. Thanks for the story. Hope for the snow.
mark loren Mark, thank you for the kind words. My parents named my middle name after him, so knowing how great of a man he was, all I try to do is keep making him proud of me. But it's amazing what good music can do for you :)
What a beautiful & wonderful song, one of 38 Special's very best & a favorite of mine. --[1] Over the past 17 years, we have seen 38 Special about 10 times or so. Every time that they play this song or a part of this song, the audience happily reacts with ooohs, aaahs, & applause. --[2] Don Carlisi's lead guitar solos are so well integrated, well performed, & tasteful. He is such a pro. --[3] 30 years ago, we played this song in our New Orleans area cover band. This song was a pleasure to play. Richard
It's Jeff Carlisi and Don Barnes. Carlisi played most of their guitar lead chops while Barnes was the primary lead vocalist, with Donnie Van Zant singing some lead and mostly harmonies. Max Karl is the singer on this beautiful ballad. Oddly, with all of their great songs this is their highest rated hit. Max has been a member of Grand Funk for several years now. .38 Special is one of my favorite bands.
♤♤ Ik what u meant. Typos suc○ lol. I do like this song. Admitting your wrongs, apologizing, etc. is such a great quality to have (In my eyes) anyone who hurt a man/woman & can look him/her in the eyes & apologize is so meaningful to me! Major "turn on", means everything to me, sweet, & I could go on. I'm a very forgiving person, if someone can apologize & really mean it, it's very difficult for me not to "forgive him/her". May not "forget", but I'm a very forgiving person.
Awesome beat. Beautiful melody. Unforgettable for me but sadly underrated. One of my all time favs from the 80s. Music will never sound like this again.
Ok, trying to analyze the moronic word used in empty skull posts, "UNDERRATED". So, the Schmuck writing this mentions this radicicolous word as if he or empty skull she is making a bold statement. Here is what's happening... the Empty Skull is saying something just to SAY SOMETHING. Moron Valiant Truth is just that a MORON. Who thinks this is underrated, you Schmuck Moron?
I returned to it for this reason... I hadn't heard it in a while but it was in my head. Now that I'm listening to it again I'm like "wait, you cheated? Ok a second chance, but maybe with someone else" ;)
My friends daughter was a dancer with MJ's last tour and I'm standing back stage at rehearsal and heard MJ singing to himself ...a heart needs a second chance. He remembered the 80's as well. This cut will last forever. Clean and timeless. Gave me another perspective of the king of pop. Memories of a time that's with me throughout eternity
I love listening to 80s music to take me back to that time. There was just so much good music, so many talented musician's. We weren't fighting any wars the economy was doing well after the Jimmy Carter era. It was almost a magical time. From the comments I've read on this post I see others share the emotional connection to this song that I feel. Good to know I have kindred spirits.
The music we make, is an outward expression of who we are. There is no time stamp. It's not only recorded in the studio but in the universe. It will always and in all ways be as long as the universe IS
If that's true then it is increasingly evident that modern humanity is devolving into true degeneracy. When this song came out mankind still believed in love, affection, and responsibility.
I haven’t heard this song since I was a teenager and I’m almost 52 years old now. When it came up on my Facebook feed and listened to it, it brought back so many memories and I started crying. My father died 12/12/2021 and this song reminds me of him. I love you dad! ❤️
I was born in 1988 and this is one of my favorite songs. Makes me happy everytime and reminds me of when I was little my dad used to play this washing the car. Great memories
This s one of my favorite songs by 38 special. What a great band! MY husband and I are going to see them tomorrow night at a HOG rally in Spartanburg, SC. Looking forward to it.

+Dear Chew Bacca :) I LOVE THIS SONG TOO but you have to listen to their song "Hang On Loosely" it's also an amazing song, you're gonna love it, GUARANTEED!!!!
As a musician, certain sounds make me stop and say "what is that!", and leave a lasting impression forever. Such was the case with the instrumental, "SLEEPWALK" (Santo & Johnny), and for many years this 38 SPECIAL. tune. Very tasteful riffing and a killer tone.
I swear, I heard this over the weekend at work, and it brought me back to my childhood. Suddenly I remembered a song I hadn't heard in 25 years it seems. All the words and everything. Gave me chills.
This song is the ultimate please forgive me song. I would listen to this and my divorce was so painful and I wish I had the words to say this heart needs a second chance when I had the chance to say em. Great song 38 specials best to date
So incredible, thanks for sharing billy scott, rest in peace MJ. My husband and i walked back down, in the aisle procession, to MJ's Hold My Hand at my wedding in 11'. :-)
Awesome Band, Exquisite Song! "A Second Chance" is a musical piece, which has been very masterfully written, composed, arranged, mixed and engineered for the whole World's delight, music lovers, as well as trained musicians. This "38 Special" great hit, truly possesses "the perfect anatomy". 1.) The Lead Singer: Soulful, seasoned voice, containing the full vocal range, hitting the low, mid and high notes of the song's melody effortlessly, as he's also pronouncing every word and phrase in a very crisp and fluent fashion. 2.) Back-up Vocals: Filling and Solid. 3.) The Lead Guitarist, steals the show! He practically traces, outlines, shapes and defines the entire tune's landscape. On top of all this artistry, "the lead guitar" is the connective tissue that enables "the key of A#" to modulate half a step higher to the key of B, by keenly fingering exactly a seven-note scale as a very rare bridge, cruising through the F# chord triad to land on the key of B. Genious! And, 4.) The rest of the track is simply the skeleton(keyboards, bass, rhythm guitar and drums), upon which all of the above components and elements rest, to sound "in perfect harmony". Sincerely, Sugart.

Wow for 2 weeks now all day everyday the song has been stuck in my head . This is the first time I listen to the lyrics . It's interesting because I broke up with a guy it's been almost 2 years he cheated on me and I kicked him out of the house and never turned back and he's been trying to get back together with me for 2 years but there's no way I'm going to do it .. so this is got to be about him .
