Really helpful. Our lab will have cruciate surgery at the end of the month. Thank you
let me know if you need any further help. I doing alot of online help with dogs with TPLO surgery- alot cheaper than going to a rehab facility with results
Thank you for the video- very helpful. Should we ice the knee after each short walk in the first week? And is the heat compress after the first 48 hours just once in the evening?
You only need to ice for the first 72 hours, but if you can feel heat around the joint (which you probably won't) you can use ice. You may want to watch my updated series which goes over week by week what to do...Having said that it won't cause any issues if you feel like you need to ice after the walks. the heat compress is just in the evenings to help with blood flow..
Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I will watch the updated series.
I’m really concerned as I wasn’t told about icing or heat packs. Vet was vague about exercise. There was no mention of a sling. It’s been two weeks and my dog still won’t lower her leg. She’s a Labradoodle. Her right foot is turned inwards (is that normal)?
Thank you for this video, very informative.
Hi i am happy to help. I am currently working on TPLO home guide course for owners like yourself. I have found the information for owners to be lacking. i You can always email me at appt@caninewellness.com and we can set up a consult on zoom. Typically by week two the leg should be on the ground..and the right leg is probably compensating for the leg that had the TPLO. Perhaps also contacting your vet to make sure there is not an underlying infection may be a good idea. cheers..tania
Do you have any tips for a tripod recovering from this surgery? My dog is missing her left rear leg.
I am assuming you have a rear harness to use ? (I have YT video how to make one). I would use the harness to do the exercises you will have the harness more on the side of the missing leg to add balance to help him. You can always email me at appt@caninewellness.com for a few tips.
I do! I’ve got one that will allow me to lift just her rear or both front and rear.
@@carthagodelenda you only need to give assistance on the left hind and can do the weight shifting with a little assistance .
So helpful, thank you!
