I remember him being a regular at Grabels in Ventnor. Always came in with an entourage and wouldn't think twice about hitting on somebody's wife. I worked with his cousin and had met him a few times so I never had any issues with him, but while he was in the club, everyone walked on eggshells. He had a reputation for being unpredictable although I only saw him get into it once arguing about a football game. I grew up in the same neighborhood in South Phila but preceded Joey by about twenty years. Everyone in the neighborhood knew who "the guys" were. It was also the safest neighborhood in Phila. Joey had an aura about him, and it was black as coal. You felt it when you were near him, like he was the devils disciple, and he had the blackest eyes I ever saw on a man, it was like looking down a deep well. A good person to gracefully avoid.
He and his crew sometimes surfaced in West Philadelphia University City where I tended bar as a college student - they dressed and looked the part, I guess it was part of their allure. Most of us laughed at their antics. Some of his guys tipped well, others tried to stiff us so we would not run an open tab for these entourages…

Wait, what? I was listening to this without watching, and I thought that they were playing the same comment from Sammy over and over again. Then I realized it was different cuts and started sounding almost as if he was begging him to come on the show. Once Joey mentioned him being a rat now, he wants to criticize him and tell him to act like a boss, but before he was saying he’s not doing anything wrong. Sammy talks about it on one of his UA-cam videos Our Thing. He said that they were after some black guy who jumped Sammy with his friend. When Sammy found out where that guy lived he went to his apartment. As they are waiting for this guy who jumped him they see him come out of the apartment with a the teenager and the guy saw that they were waiting for him he took off running. One of Sammy's friends not Sammy came out with a shot gun and chased the guy. As he's chasing the guy the teenager charged Sammy's friend and when Sammy's friend turned around he shot the kid. Sammy never got out of the car because he had a broken ankle. It was Sammy's friend who killed the teenager not Sammy but Sammy got convicted for the murder because he was there. It's one of the 19 murders that Sammy made a deal with for 5 years.
