No problem, Im glad I could help. I had a heck of a time trying to find the parts for the repair. Good luck with the cart. I sold mine to my cousin, he loves it. Thanks for watching!
I want to thank you this helped a lot I couldn’t find anything about that gear box till I found this I was about to buy all new parts and brackets now I can get it done a bit cheaper thanks
you are more than welcome. I did the same thing. It was frustrating. I just thought it might save someone from going through what I did. Im glad it helped you. Thanks for watching and letting me know it helped.
This is one fine instructional video. My CCGC is a 2003 DS and the steering apparatus is quite different though. Thank you gillis122 for taking the time to present this.
bernard saucier thanks for the video ( excellent ) . I got the parts to repair ( bearings ;) but how do you separate the main box from the steering shaft ? Thanks again
Helping a friend rebuild his 82. My question, how do you disconnect the entire steering box from the steering shaft? Do you need to remove the steering wheel? Entire steering column? Black magic?
Thanks for the video. I have an 81' that has same steering box. I watched the video, that helped a lot... but i can't figure out how the get the steering box off the shaft. I unscrewed everything and saw the 1st set if round plastic with the bearings on it... but the shaft wont come out, to get to the rest of the components. Any advise? Thanks
Thank you for the video. Very helpful I'm having the same problem as others. does the steering wheel have to come off. does the worm gear only come out one way?
Yes, the steering wheel does need to come off. I don't remember exactly how to take it apart. I am not a Golf Cart mechanic. I took it apart until I could get to the shaft. On mine the ball bearings had gotten down into the screw drive of the shaft and was causing it to bind. Sorry I couldn't have been more help. I have since sold the golf cart and don't remember exactly how I removed the shaft.
If you watch on the video at about 3:39 on the time line, You will see me using a metal square to screw the cap onto the steering box. This is the way to get to the bearings. I believe it was held in place by a cotter pin. Im not sure what you call this type of cap. Be careful how tight you get it. I had mine too tight and had to back it off to let the steering box work smoothly. Hope this answers your question. Thanks for watching. Im glad this helped you. I could not find any information on this when I made the video. Glad it wasn't in vain.
What is the part number of all the bearings you used and where did you get them? Any info would be highly appreciated as i will be doing this rebuild shortly. Thanks
I got them from eBay. they are for an International Cub Cadet steering box 100 1000 102 104. Just type that into the search bar of eBay and they will pop up. Hope this helps
@@gillis122 thank you very much, i found them. What is the teflon washer you used at the bottom? By the way excellent video it helped so much. I searched and searched for info on this steering box and could not find anything until this video.
I used the teflon washer just as a spacer. I did the same thing about looking for information about this cart steering box and found nothing. Thats why I made the video. Im glad it helped you out.
IF you can go ahead. The whole part was VERY expensive if you can find it. I tried to find it and thought I would just replace the whole thing and not fix it. I was wrong. Maybe you can find one cheaper than I could. Good luck.
Thanks for doing this!!! I was wondering how i was gonna get the play out of the steering!! Great video!
I have the 1981 and wonder if this would work for me. You’re right very little out there on this. Excellent video, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Just purchased an 83 model and switching it from electronic to gas but the steering needs attention first. This was very helpful. Thanks!

Thank you ! I have the same issue on my 83 club car
How did you remove it from the cart? Did the steering wheel have to come off?

There is a screw in shaft that the worm (screw) drive rides in. You might need to unscrew that screw and the shaft should come out. Hope this helps.

I've been learning from youtube for 10 yr, your video is excellently made, professional angles, description and voice. Must be white privilege, lol.
I think you can replace the whole part for $50.
