I appreciate that you're doing these in video form. I'm working on a Seeburg, and the "support forums" are full of unfriendly folks who just tell you to read the manual. I'm not stupid, I'm dyslexic..... If I can see a DVD or something, I'll solve the problems all day long.
I know exactly what you mean man. Don't take it personal, the people that repair these and really know their stuff are usually engineers and they have a very stiff way of doing things... they want you to read the entire manual, know all the terminology, use the correct wording, etc. and it's very oft putting for somebody who's a hobbyist or doesn't have an engineering background. I run into the same stuff, Nothing in my life is wound up tight like engineers live their entire life it seems, so it causes issues. You have to keep in mind though too, that the only reason these machines were ever made is because engineers are like that, if you or I designed a jukebox it'd run off a car battery and jumper cables with zip ties holding everything together, lol So there's room in the world for Do it yourselfers AND engineers, it's just hard for the two sides to communicate :)
Do it man. I'm trying to get everybody to save all the Rock-Olas. I've done videos on every single thing that goes wrong with them, and a lot of other people have too... There are tons of these broken all over the country and they can all be fixed!

Thanks for posting! I was having the A-side/B-side issue on a 488. I had assumed that it was a solenoid that shifts those pins for the cam follower on the arm, but that 'dog' mechanism is pretty darn clever.
Having same issue on my 444 wont select B side, selector jus goes right by the pin and it doesnt trip the selector to play record any advice would be amazing Thanks Brandon
I called you today! Been watching your videos for months and inspired me to get one ,same model 1980! 480, but the left led isnt coming on , power supply and the basket just wont work on scan, arm works and the piston moves fine with the knob on tne motor tho!! i wish i could send you the power supply, you said maybe a diode but im a dummy and bringing the machine 10hrs isnt a option being disabled, sad about it! But like the videos man! 19:42
Your mechanical prowess never ceases to amaze me Ron. I have a 1985 Wurlitzer SL800 which plays 45s. I picked it up on Craigslist a couple of years ago. We moved and its been sitting in my garage. I need to get back at troubleshooting that. I think its an issue with the keypad. I purchased a new/used one on eBay last year, but haven't had a chance to fuss with it. Have you ever repaired any of the 1980's model Wurlitzer's?
I have. There is a plastic lever attached to the cam underneath the right side of the carousel that breaks a lot and that cam keeps it from being able to scan, etc. They're decent little machines in my opinion, they get a bad rap because they're the German made ones and they're a little overdesigned, they basically tried to improve everything in the jukebox at one time so they're a little more complex but they can be fixed just fine.
Nice job figure out the B-side gone missing. About the idler-wheel, I would take off the C-clip and clean shaft really good first, then only one drop of sewing machine oil, use #400 grit wet sandpaper on the idler / motor pulley surface with Windex first, clean afterwards and install again. Also the rubber grommets usually are worn & flat, new ones from Napa works great, less rumble when playing music and constant speed. It really sounds good now !
Over here in the UK we have a company called Sound Leisure, when they first started building Juke Boxes they were cheaper than the imported ones so all venues and pubs started to change esp when CD changers came out. This meant Seeburg, Wurlitzer etc all got sold off privately so became neatly extinct within 3-4 years and into private ownership so it's rare to see a classic anywhere unless it's a themed place or diner in the middle of nowhere. Ironically a few years ago they started making copies of the classics themselves. They do make a good Jukebox though I bought one 20 years ago still going strong.
Hi Joe. I have a rockola 478. Iam a bit stuck with some troubleshooting. When I power the machine on the cage that holds the records does not rotate around. When u put it in operate or scan it trips something and the mechanism overload light comes on and the +32 dc led light goes out. I have manually moved the mechanism and put a vinyl on and it does play. I just can't seem to get the cage to spin or get it to pick a record up. Any ideas would be great. Thanks for all your videos.
Neil if I don't see your reply send me an email, but usually that means that the mechanism that moves the record to the table is stuck, the overload light comes on because it's trying to move the motor but it can't, usually because of dried grease in the mechanism. Is the arm that grabs the record over the basket, or over the turntable?
@@LyonsArcade Thanks for your reply. The arm is over the basket at the moment. I have manually moved the arm over the turntable using the motor and I can then place a record on and it will play. When the it comes to the end of the record the mechanism overload light comes on again.
Another great video! Thanks! I have this exact model in my basement and your videos have helped me a lot to get it running great! Did you Armor-All that speaker panel? It’s a lot shinier than mine! Haha!
So...we have an old 1970s Seeburg Selcto-matic 160. That thing looks 10 times more complicated that these do. They are the side playing juke boxes. I'm going to try and find some manuals for it now that you disclosed the secrets. :) Would love to get that old thing running again.
I wish I had something like this video 30 years ago. I had a jukebox that had an aversion to B sides. It wasn't a Rock-Ola (Seeburg Bandshell), but I bet this would have given me something to go on. I didn't have a manual, or any idea what the problem was. I wound up selling it. Now I wish I had it back!
Those do have a similar thing, they have a little switch on the back of the mech down by the Tormat that reverses the mech back the other way I'll bet that has something to do with it when a Seeburg acts up. They can definitely all be fixed, the good thing about the Jukeboxes is they used the same mechanisms for decades, the Seeburgs were basically the same unit since the early 50's through the late 80's!
They're all used, we just pick them up all over the place. Yard sales flea markets ebay, etc. We've probably got a thousand of them and when we need some we pull some out clean them off and test play them. They actually do still make new ones though for some artists. www.Vinyl45s.com
45's are pretty easy to find. They made millions of them, they are all over the place. Do a search, just put 45 rpm into the search engine and you will get a list of places where you can get them.
I believe the SS version is still worth more, the EM version some feel is a better and more desirable game but they're not rare enough that it overcomes the discrepancy in value between a general EM and a general SS. Personally, at our store we get about the same amount of money out of any EM, and out of any (early) SS so it doesn't jump the gap into SS price territory, lol

New subscriber here. Thoroughly enjoying the Rockola vids! I'm actually about to purchase a Rockola Supersound 2 that has been in climate controlled storage. I'm told it works and has been serviced by Nashville Arcade & Jukebox. I'll be able to plug it in at the unit and was wondering if you could tell me the top things I should be looking for (or weary of) when testing it. Also, I'll be transporting it about 50 miles and am wondering what precautions I should take when doing so. I assume I'll need to remove all of the records and either remove or secure the tonearm. Is it ever OK to lay it on its back? I know it's a no-no with earlier models, but wasn't sure on these later ones. Thanks for your time (and the great vids!).
Hi Jared; That supersound 2 is a great box.... yes you can lay them on their back, we do it all the time. I'd just watch how it picks up and lays the record down, and then returns it to make sure everything goes where it's supposed to and it doesn't drop records, basically if it has issues most of the time you can adjust it like it says in the manual and get it working as it should. Yes, put a rubber band or something on the tone arm and on these the platter likes to pop out of the spindle when you lay it back so maybe pop that out so it doesn't hit anything. About half the records will fall out if you lay it back, don't ask me how I know :) The whole mech should have some bolts on the bottom of it that holds it in place on the springs. If they've been removed the whole mech will bounce around...
