Boy, I haven't seen these commercials in 43 years!! 😁 In April of 1980, I was in 5th Grade at Woodcrest School in Van Nuys, California; two months later, Woodcrest would close that school, causing me to go to the other Woodcrest School in Tarzana, which is still there. Being in 5th Grade was a great time for me. 😁😁😁😁😁
I like the early 80's Carl's Jr Pop Quiz commercial that involves a music trivia game that started in 1980. I love this Carl's Jr commercial from 1980. 03:37, but I also love the commercials from Hostess Donuts, Twix, Bob's Big Boy, Casa Maria, and Mama Celeste. 06:13, 06:43, 07:12, 11:45, and 12:15.
I remember this one too. I'm here looking for another ad that would play along with this one a lot, The Los Angeles Museum of Science and Industry where they showed a lot of the exhibits, and at the end a spokesperson would say "it's great kid's stuff." I vaguely remember an abstract electronic soundtrack.
@ 5:07 - The Monday Night Football theme song, “Heavy Action,” was also used by the syndicated SFM Holiday Network in promos/bumpers for its offering of family feature films.
@@dariowiter3078 In the 70s and 80s Florence Warner sang on jingles for Sprite, Starburst, Burger King and Summer Fruits From California. Plus dozens more.
11:01 Sam Winston selling tires... ironically he would be killed in a car accident years later because of his vehicles tires... and the fact that he wasn't wearing a seatbelt
I had one of those Monterey Bikes, good bikes and even though it was sold at Thrifty it was still made in America. You could get a bicycle and an Ice Cream Cone at Thrifty! I totally restored that bike a few years ago and sold it to a nice family who were buying for their son for college. They liked the bike so much, they gave me $10 over my asking price of $150.00.
Thanks for posting, this is a treasure trove to those of us who grew up in L.A.

That Candice Bergen ad for Norten Simon Museum played for years on local Los Angeles television stations, it's engrained in my memory forever!

Yes, that's true. It ran for about 5-6 years on local L.A. television here, beginning in 1979, which was when that commercial was made and aired. 🙂
That Ronco "StarFire" compilation album at 4:07 is like PEAK yacht rock era. 😃
The cowubunga surfer from the Carls Junior commercial was popular to teens when it came out in the spring of 1980.

I worked in the legal department for Metromedia/KTTV in 1980!
13:21 The singer on this Lip Quencher commerical is Florence Warner, and they have an actress lip-syncing to her voice.
That's the second time I have came across that name lately.

Man, I don't remember that! 😯
Cars back then were beasts!! Big and all metal compared to cars today.
Casa Maria was a chain? All I ever saw one location in Hawthorne that was closed as long as I've ever noticed it (1981 or so)
Where is the voiceover of KTTV?
Celeste Pizza.... flavor saver..... WHAT????? 😮
