As a Brazilian American, born in Porto Alegre, I want to express my gratitude to you for showing the gauchos' capital. The flood of 2024 damaged many areas of Porto Algre, but not our spirit. We will be back.Thank you very much.
So nice and, at the same time, so sad to see how Porto Alegre was before the floods that hit RS hard in May 2024. Some of the places shown in the video were severely damaged. Hopefully, everything could be rebuilt and even improved. The Gaucho people, Brazil, and everyone else deserve a joyful Port again.

I live in Porto Alegre and I love being here. Of course, Brazil is not perfect, but qualities and defects exist everywhere. The problem is that I see many people who have never set foot in our country saying things they don't know. Brazil is beautiful and we have always been known for being happy, talking a lot and hugging each other a lot. ❤
For me, as a citizen born and residing in Porto Alegre, I'm happy and congratulate you on the great video. On your next visit, I suggest you also visit the football stadiums and learn a bit about the history of our teams Sport Club Internacional and Gremio Football Porto Alegrense, which have great national and international achievements. There's also the Theatro São Pedro, the Parcão, the Guaíba Sunset, and also about the traditionalist culture (CTG).

I’m really glad you had a such good experience in our city. It was a shame you probably went to Parque Farroupilha in a week day. In Sundays is a very nice place to hang out with family and stroll around the Brique da Redenção fair

I usually say that I leave Porto Alegre but Porto Alegre didn't leave me. Thank you to unlock good feelings about my city. As we say: TRI TEU VÍDEO!!!
As a brazilian and a gaucha who has lived in Porto Alegre for a few years, thank you for the most beuatiful translation of the city name! Sometimes we forget the meaning of the words used to name something! "The port of joy"!
@@YaleWall I wasn't personally affected by the flood, but I have relatives who were affected. Three families of my cousins who lost their homes completely and are starting over from scratch. They received a lot of help with basic resources and shelter in the first few days until they were finally able to travel to their father's beach house. Some donations came from outside, including EUA. I am very grateful to you Americans and other countries who helped our state recover. Fortunately, they are currently returning to their homes and slowly recovering, starting their business again.
So happy to see tourists going to places in Brazil besides Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Brazil is much more than one single identity, and as a Gaucho, I salute you.
i'm glad you liked it! as one of the citizens of Rio Grande do Sul (the state that Porto Alegre belongs), i really love how you appreciated a big part of our culture!
So nice to see someone talks about Porto Alegre like this. Nevertheless I came here from the future to tell you that this city that ou knew it is a completely different city after the flood. Here on my channel you will have a sincere report of a Porto Alegre citizen suffering the devastating flood that took place here
hey! next time try going to Redenção (Farophillia Park) on a weekend! i would recommend goind specially on a sunday, when there is the "Brique" - Lots of "street stores" with unique items! Also, you can drink a "Caldo de Cana" and eat a "Pastel", which is a very good and cultural combination!!! its so nice to watch your experience in our city :) hope u come back soon! Porto Alegre has a lot to offer- specially in sunny weekends!
I would had loved to see it on a weekend, but we went to São Paulo over the weekend. I’ll have a video of that coming out soon also. I’ll have to come back some day :)
Thank you for this beautiful video. I'm from porto Alegre and I can finally show my city, sharing this video to my English husband ♥️. He has never been to Brazil.
That's really amazing when foreigners focus on Brazilian cities that are not related to Rio or Sao Paulo. I appreciate your video so much. Thanks for coming to my home. I feel so much under-represented now.
Mate is disgusting? Automatically denied visas to enter Argentina, Uruguay... Excommunicated by the Pope if you are Catholics, , made enemies with Aragorn, from Lord of the Rings (actor lived in Argentina in his teens and loves mate) Ps: ever watched the series Ted Lasso on Apple TV? Reminded me of Ted Lasso, American, accidentally drinking English tea and saying "I always thought tea was horrible... I was right"
Hahaha, that’s fair 😂 Yeah, I LOVE Ted Lasso, and yes, that’s exactly that it’s like. I totally get why other people like it, but to me it just tastes like lawnmower, lol.
@@YaleWalli get you, i was like that too😂. But then i started to enjoy the flavor and it's feeling it gives, and when you starts to enjoy it, you can't get enough of lol. Erva mate is not considered sacred for nothing.
Uau, fiquei até emocionado e com vontade de chorar vendo minha cidade a qual tenho tanto orgulho ser tão reconhecida positivamente por um gringo. Que vídeo sensacional!!! Porto Alegre é demais!
Wow! I love knowing that people from outside Brazil are finally coming to explore more than just Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. I really love my country! I'm from Rio Grande do Sul and was born in Porto Alegre. I really enjoy it when our culture is appreciated. Thanks! And I hope you had fun here.
The reason why you think the smell of fish in "Mercado Público" (not "publica") is a bit too much is because... it IS too much. I'm from here and I didn't like going there as a kid for that reason. Great video, I'm glad you enjoyed our beautiful city 🤙Come back anytime!
It's so nice to watch an international channel showing our city! Brazil is a country with a lot of traditions, but we most see Rio being resumed as the Brazilian culture. Unfortunately, many places that appeared in the video were severely damaged by the april flood, and seeing it before the water's break is just a nostalgic feeling. Thanks for sharing the world a little bit of our hometown! And yes, gaúchos have the best churrasco in the entire world ❤
@YaleWall yes, but alegre (joyful) and alegria (joy) are not interchangeable in portuguese. Porto Alegre means joyful port/harbour, not port of joy. As silly as this may seem, there is a huge semantic difference between the two.
Amazing video my friend. I was born and raised in Porto Alegre but now live in a nearby city called Canoas. I almost came to tears watching this because the Mercado Publico and all you showed at the beginning of the video were flooded by 1.8 meters of water in May 2024... The city, and all the Rio Grande do Sul suffer quite a bit, and the recovery is slow, but we're all doing our best, so one day you can come back, and maybe eat some "Xis Burger" here in Canoas as well :)
I'm so happy to know that you liked Porto Alegre, I live here and after the floods things are slowly recovering! You will always be welcome here, thank you for the visibility♥️
You should definetely come back during September the 20th's week. You'd be absolutely flaggerblasted on how much the city just transforms for the Farroupilha Week
It's an amazing festival celebrating gaúcho culture. They build a camp in the middle of the city that last for two weeks. There is horseback ridding competitions and lots and lots of churrasco going on all the time. Everyone dress up like they are in the midwest 1800's it's a hoot. Your family would love it@@YaleWall
UA-cam is so cool! Simplesmente aparece o vídeo de um gringo no meu feed, visitando a minha cidade, conversando com um evangelista! Qual a probabilidade disso acontecer? LOL Parabéns pelo video, muito bem feito, mas ainda existem alguns lugares bem interessantes para se visitar em Porto Alegre! Voltem sempre!
I wasn't born in Poa, but I've been living in a city around for 15 years and I definitely love Porto Alegre and I thank you for showing this incredible city to the World. Happy that you and your beautiful family enjoyed.
Hi... surprised with your video, I helped to build the first version of this garden (Casa de Cultura) were you recorded your introduction. Now the responsible is an important local landscape designer. Nice you liked our city. Feel yourself always welcome here.
Such a nice video of our city, thank you! Also, for those who come to Porto Alegre, don't miss the sunsets by Ibere Camargo museum and the Pontal park, always surreal vibes mainly during weekends. I'd also recommend hanging out at districts such as Moinhos de Vento and Bom Fim, lots of amazing restaurants and coffee shops. Also Parcão (Moinhos de Vento park) is much safer than Redenção, but Redenção, on the other hand, gets super joyful and full of life during sunny weekends, definitely a better time to go there
I was kind sad when your wife and you said "disgusting" for our chimarrão (mate), but then you "recompensed" us by aprecciating all the rest. Thanks for this. Our food is really delicious. And thanks for showing a part of Southern Brazil, cause people only know Rio, São Paulo and the Northern beaches (which I love, but Brazil is much more!)
Thank you for visiting Porto Alegre. I love my city and I'm glad you enjoyed being here. Mario Quintana was a famous poet who lived at the Magestic hotel. The barbecue here is really better. Check back often
I'm from Porto Alegre. It's so weird to see someone touristing in the place where you live, like, it's something so common for me you know, it's nothing special, it's something that I've gotten really used to, but when you see someone looking and admiring it and seeing it for it's qualities, it's really crazy
You know who else has been there at the Mercado Público? Dua Lipa 😂 Nice seeing my city from your perspective, thanks for stopping by Sad it was cloudy, cause the sunset here is our main postcard, and seeing it from Casa de Cultura is a nice experience And "the central park" has another vibe on a sunny sunday, with lots of people, a fair, food and sometimes music P.s: loved Cali saying "obrigada" to the waiter, that's really brazilian of her, cause we say that a hundred times in a rodízio when they serve us something 😂
It's really cool to see people from different nationalities visiting and showing the beauty of Porto Alegre to the world. I live near this city and Porto Alegre (AKA Poa) is my favorite city in Brazil without a shadow of a doubt
Yes I agree with you about the food. I lived in P.A. for some years, but that was long before the floods. It'll be interesting to see where to get to next, or where you already have been - did you make a grand tour all around?
Hey my friend, your video is really cool. I'm from Porto Alegre and I can tell you that I really liked the view you had of the city. As for Farroupilha Park, really on weekdays it's not that safe or crowded, but on weekends it's crowded and there's There are several cool fairs, the best thing to do is go on Saturday or Sunday! The video was really worth it and see you later!!!!
Thanks a lot for this video! Sometimes I fell like running out of my "Port of Joy" in this very sad moment after the floods. But you guys make me remember how nice and intersting Porto Alegre is. 🧡🧡🧡🧡
This video was a great surprise! Thanks for showing Porto Alegre to the world. It is a great city to live in with one of the best food in the country. You have to come back next time to try the Italian food in a type of restaurant we call 'galeteria'. Mamma Mia, Pastaciutta and D'Italiani are some great examples. Also the pizzas, eating a 'rodízio', where they serve all flavors of pizza,. You would be in love, and shocked, swear! Congrats for the video, it was really amazing!
Thanks for the advice. I actually have been to many different pizza rodizos, and a couple galeterias, but they just didn’t make it in the video. I have more Brazil videos coming soon!
This family is beautiful and blessed. Great video, excellent channel, gained another subscriber. I will recommend it to my friends and colleagues to honor you. Steakhouse Schneider is in the city where we live, São Leopoldo. We feel very honored to visit Schneider and our capital Porto Alegre. Always welcome to Brazil. You have very good energy and are very friendly. God bless you all with all the best and positive things always. Hugs, Brodt Family.
loved the video!!! but you really should have gone to the park on the weekend. On saturday, there is a great farmers market and on sundays, there is a fair full of beautiful art and amazing food for you to try🥰 Also, since it is very crowded on weekends, it is much safer. I am really glad you liked my hometown, hope you guys come visit again❤️
It's nice to live in Porto Alegre and to see your video! Just a quick note: the meat cut isn't "Alcatraz," it's just "Alcatra," which is also my favorite! We have a lot of mixed culture with Uruguay, so I recommend trying their barbecue as well-you won't regret it. The Casa de Cultura Mário Quintana used to be a hotel, and Mário Quintana was a famous Brazilian poet and journalist who lived there for several years. I would also suggest visiting the Gasômetro, the floating pub, and taking the White Swan trip. Gasômetro is an old power plant that has been converted into a museum and event space. There's an old tower that's approximately 100 meters high. The floating pub is a pub and restaurant built on the water next to Gasômetro. Just beside it, you'll find the port where you can board the White Swan and other boats for a trip on the Guaíba River. The trip isn't long, but it's amazing, especially on a sunny day, because you can see the islands and the famous sunset from the shore.

Filmagens muito boas!! Parabéns!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻... Welcome to South Brazil, Porto Alegre City!!👍🏻👍🏻
Nice to see a review of Porto Alegre, I personally think this city definitely has something to offer But to be honest I prefer the northern part of Rio Grande do Sul, the region called Serra I am from the far South, almost in the end of the country, it's not a bad place to live, although my favorite cities in Brazil (as a guy who didn't know much yet) are Florianopolis, Curitiba and Gramado. I also really like Passo Fundo, where my dad lives. Pelotas (my town) has it's charm, is like a smaller version of Porto Alegre. I am just happy to see a gringo showing my region. Not even Curitiba is considered by many, is like the country is only Rio, Sao Paulo, Salvador and Fortaleza. With many interesting places like João Pessoa, Vila Velha, Belo Horizonte, and smaller towns (I took a train from Curitiba to Morretes for example, it was wonderful).
I'm not from POA, but i live close and have been a couple times, all of them for cultural reasons since nearby cities don't get many concerts or museums at all. I can't believe you didn't visit Museu da PUC, it's a technology and science museum filled with interactive spaces made by the university, i've been 2/3 times with my school when younger and I wanna come back so bad! Glad you had fun!
I’m very happy to see how the way they like our city because the people from other countries think Brazil is only Carnaval. We are much more than this. At next time, please, come to Gramado at state of Rio Grande Do Sul
This is such a great video showing POA, wow, I live in Canoas, a city located in the outskirsts of Porto Alegre, and I like POA so much, my son was born there, got a brother living there.
living here all my life ive never seen the city through this perspective, i really like living here but it was never something crazy, you make me appreciate my hometown a little more, thanks

It's really cool to have you here, I loved the video, I hope you enjoyed it, a hug from the Gaúcho people
i'm glad you liked it! as one of the citizens of Rio Grande do Sul (the state that Porto Alegre belongs), i really love how you appreciated a big part of our culture!
Thanks! We definitely appreciated the culture.
So nice to see someone talks about Porto Alegre like this. Nevertheless I came here from the future to tell you that this city that ou knew it is a completely different city after the flood. Here on my channel you will have a sincere report of a Porto Alegre citizen suffering the devastating flood that took place here
It’s sad to see the destruction that POA went through! I’m praying for my Brazilian brothers and sisters.
hey! next time try going to Redenção (Farophillia Park) on a weekend! i would recommend goind specially on a sunday, when there is the "Brique" - Lots of "street stores" with unique items!
Amazing review! Loved your energy!
thank you for being in here and to show such beautiful sides of my city. POA is incredible and I hope it become as safe as it used to be.
wow ! really nice to see you speaking and showing more about my local city
Thank you for this beautiful video. I'm from porto Alegre and I can finally show my city, sharing this video to my English husband ♥️. He has never been to Brazil.
I love hearing that, thanks so much!
That's really amazing when foreigners focus on Brazilian cities that are not related to Rio or Sao Paulo. I appreciate your video so much. Thanks for coming to my home. I feel so much under-represented now.
Congratulations for you show the wounderful places and our culture. Your editing videos is well made and creative. Whos your editor?
Come back more often, I'm very happy to see videos about our city and the view of foreigners about the city.
Great video, thanks for showing our city. You are always welcome!
Thank you for visiting our city. You are always welcome.
Thanks for the welcome :)
Bom demais! E sim, é o melhor churrasco do Brasil, fácil 😂 Virei inscrito, curti e vou compartilhar
Mate is disgusting?
Automatically denied visas to enter Argentina, Uruguay... Excommunicated by the Pope if you are Catholics, , made enemies with Aragorn, from Lord of the Rings (actor lived in Argentina in his teens and loves mate)
Ps: ever watched the series Ted Lasso on Apple TV?
Reminded me of Ted Lasso, American, accidentally drinking English tea and saying "I always thought tea was horrible... I was right"
Hahaha, that’s fair 😂
Yeah, I LOVE Ted Lasso, and yes, that’s exactly that it’s like. I totally get why other people like it, but to me it just tastes like lawnmower, lol.
@@YaleWall don't tell me you also hate fizzling water haha
@@rogeriopenna9014 no, I like fizzy water :). We’re good there
@@YaleWalli get you, i was like that too😂. But then i started to enjoy the flavor and it's feeling it gives, and when you starts to enjoy it, you can't get enough of lol. Erva mate is not considered sacred for nothing.
@@YaleWallwhat mark of mate did you drink?
Uau, fiquei até emocionado e com vontade de chorar vendo minha cidade a qual tenho tanto orgulho ser tão reconhecida positivamente por um gringo. Que vídeo sensacional!!! Porto Alegre é demais!
Wow! I love knowing that people from outside Brazil are finally coming to explore more than just Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. I really love my country! I'm from Rio Grande do Sul and was born in Porto Alegre. I really enjoy it when our culture is appreciated. Thanks! And I hope you had fun here.
Thanks for the advice. I might need to see it again that time of year.
The reason why you think the smell of fish in "Mercado Público" (not "publica") is a bit too much is because... it IS too much. I'm from here and I didn't like going there as a kid for that reason.
Great video, I'm glad you enjoyed our beautiful city 🤙Come back anytime!
Haha, yeah it was a lot of smell. Thanks for the warm welcome!
And yes, gaúchos have the best churrasco in the entire world ❤
"Happy Harbour" is a much better translation for the name of the city 😅 0:04
Port and harbor are used in the exact same way in English, and happy and joy are used interchangeably as well.
Thanks! I’m praying for a quick recovery from the flood.
You should definetely come back during September the 20th's week. You'd be absolutely flaggerblasted on how much the city just transforms for the Farroupilha Week
That’s what I’ve heard! I need to see it some day.
Yeah, you never know what you’re going to see. Make sure you subscribe to this channel so you see more surprising videos like this!
I wasn't born in Poa, but I've been living in a city around for 15 years and I definitely love Porto Alegre and I thank you for showing this incredible city to the World. Happy that you and your beautiful family enjoyed.
As i am a splatuber and Dave and bambi tuber of porto alegre, i never knew that there was a upstairs in a public market
Wow such Nice vídeo. Porto Alegre is a great place to know, full of culture, nice history and delicious food. Valeu, gringo🙏
Thank you for your time to appreciate Brazil and hope you had the best experience we can offer
Thanks so much! We loved it!
Erva mate is not disgusting!!! It's really revigorating for our people! Also is a sacred herb for indigenous people
Hi... surprised with your video, I helped to build the first version of this garden (Casa de Cultura) were you recorded your introduction. Now the responsible is an important local landscape designer. Nice you liked our city. Feel yourself always welcome here.
Oh, very cool! Your team did incredible work. Thanks for the warm welcome.
Also Parcão (Moinhos de Vento park) is much safer than Redenção, but Redenção, on the other hand, gets super joyful and full of life during sunny weekends, definitely a better time to go there
That’s great, thanks for the advice!
Badass video and editions, dude! I hope to meet you here asap!
Glad you enjoyed your stay!! It was really cool to see your perspective on our city. Come back whenever 🤗
Cool, thanks for watching!
I’m glad you liked it! I really tried to like mate too, maybe it’ll grow on me and I’ll like it someday :)
Tks for coming and showing my city. I love to live here. I was born here and I wish the best for this incredible city.
He got it right about Schneider. As a born and raised Gaucha myself, it can't be beaten.
So true!
I`m glad that you could enjoy our city after of the biggest flood in the history of Brazil. You`re welcome to comeback ;)
I went before the flood. I was very sad to hear about how the flood destroyed so much!
I'm from Porto Alegre, I'm very happy that a foreigner comes to visit Rio Grande do Sul, you're very welcome!😁
Perfect review, and I couldnt agree more. Im born and raise in Porto Alegre. Hope to see you guys next time you come here!
You know who else has been there at the Mercado Público? Dua Lipa 😂
Nice seeing my city from your perspective, thanks for stopping by
Sad it was cloudy, cause the sunset here is our main postcard, and seeing it from Casa de Cultura is a nice experience
And "the central park" has another vibe on a sunny sunday, with lots of people, a fair, food and sometimes music
P.s: loved Cali saying "obrigada" to the waiter, that's really brazilian of her, cause we say that a hundred times in a rodízio when they serve us something 😂
Really, that’s so random!
Yeah, we need to go back to the park on a weekend.
I’ve got a video of Caxais and Bento already, with Gramado and Sao Paulo coming.
i got emotinal seeing you showing the city i was born and i've lived for my whole life, thank you
That’s great to hear. Glad I could bring some attention to it!
É uma honra ver a minha cidade representada ao exterior. Sejam sempre bem vindos!
Grate vídeos man! Happy eyes about my city!
Thanks!
Thanks so much! Your words are very kind :)
loved the video!!! but you really should have gone to the park on the weekend. On saturday, there is a great farmers market and on sundays, there is a fair full of beautiful art and amazing food for you to try🥰 Also, since it is very crowded on weekends, it is much safer. I am really glad you liked my hometown, hope you guys come visit again❤️
Yeah, I need to check it out on a weekend sometime. Thanks for the warm welcome!
Nice to see a review of Porto Alegre, I personally think this city definitely has something to offer
But to be honest I prefer the northern part of Rio Grande do Sul, the region called Serra
I am from the far South, almost in the end of the country, it's not a bad place to live, although my favorite cities in Brazil (as a guy who didn't know much yet) are Florianopolis, Curitiba and Gramado.
I actually did go to Gramado, and I have another video of that coming soon!
You’re welcome! Sometimes you just need to see your city from another light :)
What an incredible video!
I hope you enjoyed our capital of Rio Grande do Sul, maybe next time you can go to "Gramado" (it is without a doubt another wonderful city in Brazil)
Greetings from Guaíba!
It’s funny that you say that… I’ve got a video of Gramado coming soon!
@@YaleWall Wow, I'll be waiting to watch haha
Ainda não tive a oportunidade de conhecer Porto Alegre, quero muito conhecer o estádio Beira-Rio. Adorei o vídeo de vocês! Vocês tem uma energia tão boa! :D
Thanks!
A lot of talented craft went into making this video! Great job!
Thanks so much!
