I'll make this when feeding four or five campers, usually delegating someone else to grill some veggies or put together a salad. Ingredients • 1 whole Chuck Roast, 2 1/2 To 4 Pounds • Salt And Pepper To Taste (Be Generous!) • 3 Tablespoons Olive Oil • 4 whole Onions, Peeled And Sliced • 5 cloves Garlic Chopped • 2 bottles Beer (I like Alaskan Amber for this recipe, but your call) • 1 teaspoon Ground Thyme • 1/2 teaspoon Rosemary Leaves Preparation Instructions Get a good bed of coals going. Heat oil in a large dutch oven over hot coals. Season meat generously with salt and pepper. Sear meat on both sides, about 2 minutes per side. Remove meat from pan. Lower heat to medium by elevating the Dutch oven or spreading out the coals. Throw in onions and cook until you begin to see some color. Add garlic and stir for 30 seconds. Pour in beer, and add thyme, rosemary, and salt to taste---about 1 teaspoon. (Do not undersalt!) Add meat to pot, push to submerge, and place lid on pot. Cook in oven for 2 1/2 to 3 hours, or until meat is fork tender and falling apart. Shred meat with two forks. Serve on dinner plates and spoon juice and onions over the top. Serve with very crusty bread to sop up the juice
Hobo Dinner: Can of Sliced White Potatoes, Can of Sliced Carrots, Slice up an Onion, Make Hamburger Patties. Put ingredients on a sheet of tin foil and sprinkle all with salt and pepper, then fold up the tin foil around it into a sealed packages. Place packages on grill and cook about 10 minutes, then serve.

How do you know the water is safe? My boyfriend and I are going camping north bruce Peninsula and he says we can just rinse off our dishes in the lake and im a little nervous its one of the great lakes
I hope you won't rinse your dishes IN lake water. Please fetch some lake water in a pot and then clean and rinse them at least 30 meters from the lake or stream or open water source to avoid contaminating it. (I cringed when our chef drained the potato water into the lake.)

After a couple years of marriage most guys like the silent treatment.
Backpacker wisdom doesn't need words.. the world is infinite until someone opens their mouth
I wondered the same thing. At least say something...
You were obviously single I shush my wife on a daily basis
You’ve got to be kidding me. I didn’t see any cooking but I watched til the end. Just fantastic.
Take onions and throw them into the pond. Good luck with the runs from untreated pond water in your dish.
It was boiled
@@cjg1911 IKR? Safe to drink if boiled for 15 minutes. People have no clue.
@@dennism5565 if i shat in a pot of water and boiled it for 15 mins would you drink it?
At 0:31 I almost wet myself with fear because of the way she was holding that chisel. She kicked that can of beans ass, hell yeah.

Apologies, but Melissa is too beautiful not to subscribe. Also, her dialog is perfection.
Pity your grammar isn't perfect

This would work with canned corned beef or spam too depending on your tastes. Good video and I agree about the water issue too....been there done that...so ill...lol but otherwise great video and you should do more of these simple meal vids.
The Grey Outdoors what are your thoughts on the water she used in this video and can you get sick?
@@elo5449 Depends on where the water is from but most places you must at least boil the water. You can get very sick from un-treated water. Not worth the risk.
The Grey Outdoors okay thanks for the info. I subscribed to your channel btw.

You got me craving corned beef now 😂
Been watching your knife videos recently and I really liked what I saw then I saw this video today and I have to say..........
I love you...👍😍👌
Food looks yummy. The kids in the background sounds like they're having fun. The puppy is the official taste tester.
Thank goodness someone gets it! This was about the experience disguised as a how-to video. No pointless words or music telling us what to think and feel. I doubt she would make it the same way twice. "Woodsy folks" demonstrate relying on one's attention. Without that, no amount of explaining will stick. Life's lessons aren't purely utilitarian. Could be It's about the beauty of the day.. it's up to us to take it in.
Nice effort kido, its obvious you do not know your way around a kitchen, but, keep practicing you will get much better very quickly. Your dish looks delicious! Think I will give it a try!
This is the first time I watched one of your survival videos and it is so cool.!!! Thanks. I watch your knife videos a lot.!❤
Wow, that looks great. The food looks good too. 😉
1:42 This little guy :^D
My old Jack russell ,Alife used to appear like magic when food was cooked.Never when cooking it,just when it was ready to eat.
I need to get me one of these & a "hobo stove" too. 😍
I'm sure that she used water that she just finished bathing the dog in .oh well I guess that's the hobo part.
Wandrayl Booker Yeah when they get through eating they had the runs all night
A little dog just adds flavor.
HarryKari Touche The way she uses a knife or the lack there of ,I am surprised there’s not a few body parts in the stew as well
HarryKari Touche Have you ever watched the Steinfelt episode Were Jerry is on a date with a beautiful woman then they focus on her hands eating this reminds me of that episode were jerry he was so grossed out by her hands he had to leave,This girl definitely has some veiny man arms and hands
@@raymonddriggers yes, but did you see ware she got that water from. Never needed water that bad to use nondisinfected water.
Never put the little dog in the water in Florida.
Florida or Georgia thru Louisiana. My little West Highland White Terrier attracted a pond gator from hundreds of yards away. Had to put him back in the truck for his own safety. While we were fishing.
Ya your supposed to feed them gators every little dog and cat you find, nobody has time for a dog that can't go catch its own meal and bring you back some fresh meat
Boil any water found outdoors for at least five minutes before it touches food.
I love all living things.
That being said, one should never allow any animal to come within ten feet of food, drinking water, tables, pots, pans, or utensils.
Touch the dog, wash your hands with soap and hot water, then cook.
BTW, I love hobo stew.
Thanks for the video.😎💙💛💚
Beauty, silence (!), cooking skills, outdoor life, nice to animals - a stunning killer combo! ATB!
Look in from outside. This here's girl is high maintenance. The little dog no bigger than a nutria rat is the giveaway. Ain't no meat on them bones. Quiet? Well we don't rightly know that for sure. Besides, how we all don't know that her voice ain't pitched in a high C? I like a talkative woman. Keeps their mind off things.
That dog is adorable!
Shhhh! It's for dessert!
OMG, mean! LOL
Beef stew surprise.
What's the surprise?
It ain't beef.

I made this and it was very tasty 😋 thanks for sharing Melissa
This is the weirdest “can’t have her” video of all time
What's a "can't have her" video?
Somebody send her a P 38 John Wayne to hang on her necklace and show her how to use it. Great video Melissa. Thanks for sharing.
Haha!!! Just seeing this. You are Rad! Love your style, grit, and resoursefulness!
Not really enough liquid /water slurry to be real Stew. Also helps to add a splash or two of bourbon whiskey or three or four splashes of beer to the mix to make it a true Hobo stew.
You had me at bourbon
OK forgive my ignorance. Ive seen water used from mountain streams...hell Ive drank it bore and its friggin tasty, but I have never heard of cooking with lake water! Is that even safe??
not in MY backyard after you wash a dogs butt in it!
Yes its safe, most drinking water comes from reservoirs AKA giant lake..
It’s not a motorized lake, protected park area with no motors :) I agree with you on lakes with toxins
Best girl ever…..she never talks
Doesn't looking at her make you wanna better yourself? I will. And I will pick me up a dime like this one day. Thanks love, keep it classy!
Not EVEN going to say anything
Why does this girl only have just over 33,000 subs? She should be close to 1 mil by now.
The question isn't why I stopped.....but why I stayed.
May I suggest a P-38 or P-51 can opener for your necklace add on, Also a MSR PocketRocket stove, or a Coleman 533 dual fuel stove, and MSR hiking micro filter for your trail water and cooking needs. Unfiltered Lake water? Just saying.
Have a nice day. 😊
That water has been boiled during the cooking process, so it should be safe. No guarantees on the taste, though.
@@howardsmith9342 not when its added to the onions
@@thedowntrodden1522 The onions should have cooked long enough--the pan was already hot and it only has to boil 3 minutes.

Gregory Hobbs. Or a freaking can opener!
The dog comes out when she’s cutting up the sausage haha
How do you know the water is safe? My boyfriend and I are going camping north bruce Peninsula and he says we can just rinse off our dishes in the lake and im a little nervous its one of the great lakes
I hope you won't rinse your dishes IN lake water. Please fetch some lake water in a pot and then clean and rinse them at least 30 meters from the lake or stream or open water source to avoid contaminating it. (I cringed when our chef drained the potato water into the lake.)
There are a few things in this video where she is not exactly role modeling the best practices and that is one of them. If you do not know your water source assume it's contaminated.
I would bring a small bottle of chlorine bleech add 1/3 cup per gallon to your rinse water to make a sanitizing rinse
You guys are being weird. As long as the water is boiled for a little while it's all good. I've rinsed in lake water my whole life and I've never been sick from it. Potato water in the lake doesn't mean shit either.
@@msavage138 Seriously, where do people come up with this crap?
43 seconds in you get a glimpse into the life of her boyfriend or husband.
LOL..And she is fearless!
Beautiful lady ❤ Beautiful camp food. And she's skilled with a blade too.
You don't ever want to use water out of a still lake like that I don't think you're getting that water hot enough to kill the pathogens you got to get that water boiling for a solid 20 minutes
It also doesnt need to be that long. Rolling boil for a minute is more than enough
Well, there,s an easier way. But watching Melissa do anything is fun watching💋💘👀😎
