    I N S T A G R A M: / melissabackwoods
    F A C E B O O K: / melissabackwoods
    M E R C H: melissabackwoo...
    Ingredients
    1 onion
    2-3 potatoes
    1 summer sausage
1 can maple cured bakes beans
*You can also use a pound of ground beef instead of the summer sausage but the summer sausage is great because it is portable and can be carried in your backpack without refrigeration.
    Directions
1.) Slice potatoes, boil 15-20 minutes until soft
2.) Slice onions and sauté for 5-10 minutes, add salt and pepper
3.) Slice sausage, add to onions, cook additional 2 minutes
4.) Heat up baked beans, drain potatoes and add all together
    5.) Enjoy!

I loved your article in Survivor's Edge. On top of all of 7uthe training, bushcraft, survivalism and outdoor stuff you do, I love your deep connection to nature. I too feel this connection to nature. And the more bushcraft/camping and outdoor stuff I do, the stronger this connection gets. I love how you dedicate much your time to conservation. I love what you said about taking your shoes off out in the field. Years ago I used to do this and loved it. I think it's time to begin doing it once more. I took up instinctive shooting with a "take down bow in the past month and a half. To see and ) hear that you too did this was very motivating. You've really INSPIRED ME. Thank you Melissa. 🙂

Recommend P-38 and P-51 can openers as a much safer and easier way to open cans. Around $5 on Amazon and small enough to carry on key ring or necklace.

    • @johnbrady1211
      @johnbrady1211 5 років тому +8

P38=Indestructible! I carry a P38 on my key ring that I got back in 1979 when several of them used to come in a case of c-rats. I swear, I have found a use for it at least twice a week. A screwdriver, a box cutter, I use it to scrape off lottery tickets. And of course I use it to open cans, cause the fucking electric can openers never work right. I still have several from that period stashed in my top dresser drawer.

A t-shirt would only filter larger pieces of debris. A coffee filter would do better. But neither of these will filter out the bacteria, viruses, parasites, and other bad stuff in that water. You know, like from dead animals, human and animal waste... Boiling the water first is needed, even for washing the dishes afterwards. It's best to use bottled water. Having a few gallons of clean water is essential.

That's not what we called hobo stew. No, we just cut up some carrots, onions, potatoes & ground beef with salt & pepper, rapped it in foil & buried it in a bed of coals. Then waited about 45 minutes to an hour, something like that, till it was done. And actually if we had something else we'd throw that in too, like squash or something....
