No production notes survive and no credits appear on this movie-of-the-week pilot produced by Loretta Young in 1963, but one can assume that the same basic crew that worked on the Loretta Young Show series worked on this film.
The writer and director was most likely either Richard Morris or John Newland, who had both collaborated as such on many episodes
of the original series. This film closely resembles the episode entitled "Goodbye, Goodbye", from the Loretta Young Show series, which was written and directed by Richard Morris and co-starred John Newland.
This 'pilot' never sold, so this program was never broadcast.
We present it for the first time as we believe it was originally viewed in private screening rooms in New York and Los Angeles.
Please excuse the poor quality of this print. It was taken from a VHS cassette of the 16mm film, which is believed to be housed at the UCLA Film and Television Archive in Los Angeles. - Розваги
I loved her show as a girl. Beautiful woman, beautiful voice, beautiful eyes, beautiful clothes....i was in awe of her. To think i just watched the pilot to that very show that few had ever seen. Thx for finding this gem and airing it. A real treasure. The role and mindset of a wife and mother at that time.
What a loss this pilot didn't sell! Loretta Young is SORELY missed these days! There's nothing on TV nowadays that compares, and nobody can compare to Miss Young. RIP, Loretta Young.
This is a wonderful picture that reminded me of the NEED for true quiet time when the days are filled with so much to do.
Loretta Young was not only a fine, versatile actress, but she had a very sharp instinct about what makes a good script.

This is a gem... Her show which I caught on reruns 40 years later were so inspirational.....as is this 'Day at the beach" a subtle lesson for humanity

the pilot was enjoyable and thought provoking. As for its not selling, the reason might have been that the potential buyers (like me) could not imagine what the other episodes would be like. Would they be filled with the busyness of everyday life in the family? Would they be more shows with mostly reflection about life? I think I would have enjoyed finding out as I tuned in for the next shows.

absolutely agree with other comments. a truly inspirational movie. with mental problems on the rise, what a wonderful answer to these type of problems. hopefully more people will see this movie.

Yes, back in that day or thereabouts women were given valium instead. At first I thought the movie was going to be about the use of valium in housewives... Such a refreshing alternative. Everything Loretta did was an expression of love or her longing to find her way in love.
@@BETTERWORLDSGT People are more stressed now because they are not following god's intention for them nor living with any kind of gratitude for the good things that life presents. The film tells it all for those with they eyes and ears to see and hear.

The storyline is fine. The lifestyle was what one made of it. Purpose. Some women already had careers in addition to family life. Trashing family life was not the answer. For this housewife a day at the beach was enough to quiet the mind & reexamine

Loretta Young was always lovely and very active throughout her very long and impressive career. The Chapel at the Desert Hospital in Palm Springs is now named in her memory for all the time she spent weekly and daily saying the Rosary and visiting with people at the Hospital. She as an inspiration to many who knew her visits there and also those who said the Rosary with her on a daily basis.
Thank you for adding that, so many actors and actresses aren't recognise for things they do, sadly the press only like to publish negative things.
@@sandrafraser8120 Loretta Young in her earlier years wanted to say the Rosary in full, but always found it difficult. She talked with Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen about it and he suggested she just say one or two decades or however much she felt comfortable saying. She followed his advice and in time was saying the entire Mysteries of the Rosary in full which she did daily when on her visits to the Desert Hospital in Palm Springs. If Loretta Young could get a Priest to come for the Rosary Services, he would also offer a MASS which quickly filled up that small little Hospital Chapel.
She was very active at St. Louis Catholic Church in Cathedral City, California (next to Palm Springs) and Jane Wyman was also an active member at that small Catholic Church. They attended MASS there on Saturday evenings weekly and many of the services at the Church during the week.
The Sinatra family gave many of the Statues to the Church including one that Frank Sinatra's mother had donated of St. Anthony, a favorite Saint of Natalie Sinatra (Frank's mother). They also donated a large collection of Rosaries and Statues of the Infant of Prague which had belonged to the Sinatra family and are now on display at the Church. Frank Sinatra oftentimes acted as an Usher at St. Louis Catholic Church.

You know.. the forces against Loretta to have an abortion were fierce. She defied them all and brought a wonderful human being into the world because she valued life more than submission and the false belief that her way was the wrong way. Gable had no interest in the child that he helped to create. He's the one who defied god's law of love.
You know I wish actress today would just act. They do not have to undress and cuss to be successful. Enjoyed these all movies.

yes, this film is quite the counterpoint for the valium addiction that was heading towards the American housewife in the 60's and 70's
Doctors at some point became pill pushers. Not concerned with healing the body, but with creating a situation that calls for prescriptions.
It is no wonder this new show did not succeed. It was a modern staging of Ibsen's, a Doll's House. Women were already moving beyond the 50's mentality.

Loretta made a few successful and excellent series, but this wasn't one. This is a pilot for a new show that didn't sell. I know, it didn't sell?! What were they thinking?
This pilot represents traditional values of a beautiful Catholic woman, Loretta Young, and in the year 1963, considered the last great family values year, prior to Vatican 2 and JFK death. Of course this type of show will no longer sell to a world headed for secularism, going it alone without God. God help us, as we see the tragic results 60 years later.
Ok, I know this isn't right. But the kids look like Lauren Chapin, Pee Wee Herman and Jerry Mathers!!
