This "Piva" comes from Giovanni Girolamo Kapsperger's collection, Libro quarto d'intavolatura di chitarrone (1640), a book of solo music for theorbo. Though originally written for the chitarrone or theorbo, the Italian long-neck lute, the musicians of Chatham Baroque have arranged this tune for trio. The word "piva" means "bagpipe" in Italian, and you can hear the characteristic drone of the pipes throughout this charming piece.
Chatham Baroque has recorded this and other works by Kapsperger (also spelled Kapsberger) on their CD "Alla Luce," available at: chathambaroque.square.site/
Andrew Fouts (baroque violin)
Patricia Halverson (viola da gamba)
Scott Pauley (theorbo)
Recorded Live at Calvary Episcopal Church, Pittsburgh, PA.
Delightful piece. Especially as played by you folks.
Love Kapsberger and the mesmerizing atmosphere you create in this rendition.
Tényleg nagyon érzékeny előadás.
🙏
Maravilloso el sonido de la Tiorba, no conocía ese instrumento.
Gracias
This trio introduced me to the Theorbo and along with their fantastic interpretations have advanced my musical knowledge and pleasure and i am certainly grateful.
I would pay serious money too see and hear this live.
It was on the setlist for a gig on Friday; it'll pop up again
Avec Kapsperger, on hésite entre la renaissance et le terroir sans âge et de cet inattendu mariage, l'on est heureux d'avoir été présent afin d'entendre sa musique !
Спасибо, мне очень понравилось! Сыграно с душой!

Bravo bravo bravissimo
Beautifull¡¡¡
Superbe pièce, mais surtout une superbe interprétation !
Baroque lute always gets my thumbs-up. :)
Timbres no tempo, sinto-me lá.
Nice playing but in some passages the sound of the viol is somewhat obscured by the violin (this is a purely engineering issue).
