This was my store. It's amazing how you can feel such a deep sadness for a place, when at the end of the day its just a place. But it was so special, very old school Bensonhurst, very iconic with the D train passing by in the background, so Brooklyn, a real slice of real New York gone. Thanks for the video.
That was seriously well-done. Looks like you guys had a lot of fun at work and that will make it a great job...try to bring that fun with you wherever you work!
This video is a real tear jerker. I worked for Waldbaums 241 in north patchogue. Luckily we were bought by King Kullen. We're all happy again with King Kullen just like we were with Waldbaums. But we got lucky. A lot of stores didn't get bought and people are out of work. I feel bad for each and every one of them. Hopefully they all find something. Btw did you or any of your coworkers of this Waldbaums find work since your store closed?
Very sad what happened here. I worked for Waldbaums for 13 years, started as a grocery clerk at 16 years old and left a Co Manager. I never worked for a company with such a sense of family even as a non union manager in my later years. The other companies can say what they will, but how many grocery stores were in business for 110 years (Waldbaums) or 156 years (A&P).
I looked just like the Guy at "7:16" in 1972 , 38 years Full time Dairy , Julia & Ira Waldbaum used to come in the store Ira didn't like my hair . I wish our store did a video . Very Sad to watch .
What town is this store in? I haven't been in Waldbaums since I was a teenager I think. I remember shopping there with my grandparents when I was a kid, back in the 80's.

I remember I use to live 4 blocks away from Waldbaums.
I lived 1 block away from the Waldbaum's in the '60s and 70s as a kid. Man was it difficult to shop there ... ! but I still love it - looking back.
I was in that store a lot, as a tech, in the late 90's early 00's before the remodel. It's a shame what the private investors did to the company.
I really cried watching this though! 😭
my earliest memories was my mom taking me to wallbaums once a week in Staten island.
I'll never forget Waldbaums! 💚🥰
