If you want to go there are some things I'd consider: 1) We landed from our international flight and then walked around the corner (it's an airport path) to the domestic terminal to fly immediately to Phu Quoc, which I think was the right thing for us to just go before visiting the mainland. 2) That said it depends on how long you want to spend in Vietnam as the e-visa is only 30 days so we spend a week in Phu Quoc (which is visa exempt if you fly directly into the island) and "spent" 7 of our 30 days which led to a visa run in Saigon a few weeks later. It didn't matter that much to us as I knew we would spend a few months here so a visa run was inevitable. Actually Vietnam is so good I'm currently booking the second visa run and only leaving here because I have to go see my family in Canada. Otherwise I'd stay even longer.

The island is small enough that you can stay on the west and head to the east for the day. That's what we did. But I'm not sure where to go as we stayed on the west. But you can see the east beaches are better and I know there's accommodation.
In Phu Quoc you should come to "Ice-cream beach" because this is the best beach in Phu Quoc, you can google it to see . The water in this beach is very clear like crystal and the sand is very White like ice- cream . That's why they call it " Ice-Cream Beach".
great video, im vietnamese here and imo the best beach is bãi khem, its a public beach that JW marriott also uses, which is much better and more expensive than vinpearl, vinpearl is a decent hotel for its price but honestly it cant be categorized into luxury its more of a high class hotel imo but luxury is worlds apart from high class

It’s not like Phu Quoc at all unless you count the Gili Islands. So many people go to Bali hoping for an epic beach vacation but these are far better and the title catches their attention to a destination they may not know about.
I believe legally you need an IDP but if you rent a scooter vs a big motorcycle, which is unnecessary, there are no issues on Phu Quoc. This is what we were told and experienced although Alan does have an IDP just in case. Most of the issues with driving are at the Ha Giang loop and we have more videos driving from Saigon to Hanoi where there are supposed to be check points but no one stopped us.
Bali is operated. However, Bali has beautiful waterfalls and dense forest. Food and adventure are better in Phu Quoc. If you want the best beach go to “Bai Sao”
In Vietnam, they mostly use Zalo. And people should be more careful with driving a motorbike. You must have an adequate driver licence and the international driver licence to drive more than 50cc motorbikes. Driving is not so easy and having an accident might lead you to jail. And they don't have playstation in jails in Vietnam.
Alan has an Indonesian motorcycle license and an international motorcycle license. I wouldn't dare drive in Asia without one. Overall driving in Phu Quoc was much easier than the rest of Vietnam because the roads are so wide and there are much fewer transport trucks.
Well many do that. But if you get into an accident insurance won't cover you. And I've traveled long enough to know an accident also means foreigner will always be at fault.

@@ayngelina a communist country government owns and controls property and economic resources rather than its citizens. Under communist country lacks basic human rights and freedom. Vietnam is a socialist country with capitalistic characteristics. Its citizens are allowed to own real estate (up to 99years lease, but renewable) and entrepreneurs are allowed to do businesses. People have freedom and basic rights like LGTBQ, religion, speech, access to social media and ect. They don't have rights to political election but other than that it's pretty much a free country. I'm certain that the freedom you're experiencing in Vietnam is very much similar to the US.
Great video except one thing: NEVER argue with locals about rules and law. The lady in this video seems to look down on security guards at the beach. WARNING: he or she may be related to a high ranking local officials (could be the only reason he/she get a job at this resort). Vietnam is the last place on earth where you want to get into an argument with locals, especially about rules and law. God forbids if you ever get involved in a minor situation, imagine you can be held for several days (even as an interested person or a material witness). You can miss your flight and be in a whole lot of problems. I would advise: smile and pay! It's among the most corupt countries on earth. The early part of the video was right on the spot: It's a communist country.
I don’t look down on the guard at all. Other tourists get into fights with them and my point was that they are only doing what they were instructed to do. They don’t make the rules.

I have been in a Latin American beach paradise with my wife and, after paying an 100 USD for a day pass in a beach club, we were informed that only VIP guests(?) would have access to the private swimming pool and the internet. Once the price for accessing the club was only one, I asked more about it and a cis male waiter informed me that VIP was the denomination for male gays... Sorry, but I do prefer security guards at the beaches than to accept this kind of anomaly!
I'm from Europe and there's no reason for me to come to Phuc Quoc in oder to see a fake Mini Europe. The other issue is the availablity of Phuc Quoc. Bali and Phuket are destinations of Emirates, Qatar, Etihad, Turkish Airlines and co. There are reasons why these airlines fly directly to Bali and Phuket but not Phu Quoc.
Phuket is not the best place in Thailand to stay. The best places for tourists are located in other areas of Thailand where Emirates doesn't fly. Phuket beaches are getting dirtier because of not enough cleaning for many people. Phu quoc is just getting to Hochiminh where all major airlines fly and then a short flight to PQ
Just spent two months in vietnam. Two weeks on phu quoc. The island is almost destroyed. None og the beaches visited here is worth going to. I have been all around the island more than once. This place is almost destroyed. Beaches are definitely not public. You now pay 500000 dong to enter ong lang via coco. The locals are screwed by the military and chinese investors. I know a perfect paradise beach on the island....but i wont tell you.
Wow a lot has changed in a year then. We also entered via Coco although there’s also a different entrance, but no one charged us and instead just showed us where to park.
@ayngelina lack of administration and scarce population on the island led to it being ultimately controlled and populated by chinese-vietnamese migrants. Phu quoc or better known in the khmer language as "koh tral" is only 15 km off the coast of kampot province in cambodia. Sad....but the cambodian govt and its army were too weak to protect its precious land from greedy neighbors(Thailand and vietnam).
They call Phu Quoc the Bali of Vietnam and I think one of the beaches that I pointed out does resemble some Bali beaches so I can see the comparison. But I think calling it the Maldives of Vietnam is a bit of a stretch.

True but Bali and Phuket are overcrowded with tourists. Bali doesn’t even have nice beaches unless you head out to the Gili Islands or the Nusas.
