@Teddygalbis See Mountain Meadows Massacre -- where the Mormons, point blank, shot and killed 120+ UNARMED, INNOCENT, men, women, and children (travelling through Utah on their way to California) in a valley called Mountain Meadows in Southern Utah on September 11, 1957, because the Mormons were ordered to do so by their church leaders! The Mormon Church, under the direction of Brigham Young, covered it up for years (blaming it on the Ute Indians); the massacre was, subsequently, uncovered by the Federal Government,

Your video reminds me of a time when I was exiting the church and my Bishop came over to my house to chat about my concerns. Nothing he said would have changed my mind at that time, I had realized I had been lied too all my life, I was done. At one point (being down on all religions) I said to him "religions fly airplanes into buildings" He said "Some" I replied "Mormons would if told to do so." He had a good poker face at that response and said nothing more other then some small talk and left. I never went back, resigned soon after and never heard from him again. The poll you took and its results don't surprise me, in fact it concerns me.
"Centipedes? In MY vagina?" You aren't immune because of religions. Mormons would fly airplanes into to buildings if told to do so. Knowledge is power.
I converted at 21 and became inactive, ive been active for 6 yrs and had a calling as teacher and ward missionary. I was so happy. My husband isn't Mormon but my kids are which created some friction when I would take them bc they would say, why can't I stay home with dad? Then about 3 months ago, I suddenly lost ALL desire to go to church, teach my class or go to meetings, then I found out about Joseph Smith being a Freemason and my world, my bubble popped. It IS shocking to find out everything you knew to be true was a lie but I didn't meet Jesus in the church, so I don't need a building or 501(c)3 demonic system to continue my relationship with him. Actually, its brought me MUCH closer to Jesus being away from LDS. I still lovr ALL the people, I just choose not to participate anymore. My adult kids are in but I'll wait patiently for them to see the TRUTH. Its only been a few months away but I am beginning to realize that the thing I learned MOST by being a Mormon is how powerful our minds are. When we believe something, its our reality. Maybe the LDS is "an experiment" to see how fully one can be programmed to blindly follow something. I mean, if I were the devil, this ALL would be of great importance to know how many ppl you have that will do whatever is asked of them in the "name" of Jesus, would it not? What a superb way to mock God, by this ENTIRE religion doing Satan's work, but in God's name. That's what it looks like to me anyway. I could be wrong. One last point. God NEVER changes so why does the church? Love to all here. ❤
Did anyone else ever think the “follow the prophet” song from primary days was like a dark ominous song???? I did not like the tune of that. It reminded me of this old Halloween song from the 90s....
Also, I ask TBM's to think about this... If you excuse prophecies gone wrong in the past by telling yourself that the "prophet was just speaking as a fallible man" _then why follow any of them??_ If you can't tell when they are making a mistake, yet you mold your life around this "mistake" and then you are told 20 years later the prophet made an all too human mistake -- how is Mormonism different than *_any_* other religion or denomination of Christianity? [Well outside of the fact they are worth more than 30 Billion dollars - and missionaries still have to raise money for their missions?? incredible.]
If you cant trust the previous. Brigham, Mark E, Monson and the policy ect. Why should you trust the currents. Makes no logical sense. Either you speak for God, or you don't. There can be no middle ground!
@Teddygalbis Actually - you would be surprised at how many denominations of Christianity practice shunning/ disfellowshipping or excommunication. I suspect that the Jehovah's Witnesses are the *worst* offenders. They have beliefs that actually can kill people - they believe it is a sin to get a blood transfusion, even if it will save someone's life - and if you agree to get one, even it saves your life or your infant child's life - you are shunned. My rule - any religion that would break apart a family over religious doctrine is dangerous. If you know you could be asked to choose church over your child - you need to ask yourself if that is _really_ agape - love?
Surely someone is a prophet or not, if their prophecies are wrong they are false prophets. I believe the penalty for being a false prophet is somewhat harsh, so how many Mormon prophets should be paying the penalty.
I think you nailed it. Most people answering yes were doing so in good faith. In other words, they were assuming that the prophet by definition, would _never_ ask them to do something crazy. If we are asked to do something against our basic moral code, the reaction of most law-abiding citizens is to go through the motions of doing the crazy thing or coming as close as they can without actually doing the crazy thing. Answering "yes" was hypothetical and made them feel good about being a TBM. Answering "no" would make them feel uncomfortable -- but I wonder how many actually visualized an extreme scenario when they answered.
The Mountain Meadows Massacre [where the Mormons killed over 100 innocent people because they were ordered to do so by the leaders of their church] is a perfect example of otherwise righteous people abandoning their own conscience in favor of the edicts of their religious leaders.
So no matter what a prophet says it is correct until he dies, at which point a new prophet can declare it was wrong. Does this mean that as God spoke through his prophet, God was wrong???

@Jon Schoen I think we know quite a bit about it, no thanks to the obstruction perpetrated by Brigham Young and the actual murderers. The local stake presidents were the leaders of the militia. I doubt you can get that many men to brutally murder unarmed men, women, and children....and then not even face church discipline outside of John D. Lee (decades later).....without that "obey your leaders" mentality. You can see it differently, but I think enough is there to assume the connection.

YOU NAILED IT! If the prophet gets it wrong then he is just human, but if he gets it right, then he is inspired by God. When the church came out and said any child that lives in a same sex home couldn't be baptized I knew in my heart and gut that it was wrong. When I was on my mission I tought that anyone that was of the age of accountability and had the desire to be baptized could be baptized. Sure the church changed it back, but it just goes to show that sometimes they get it wrong. I still go to church every Sunday but I am completely independent in my thinking and I am completely open minded and have respect for all religions.

Thanks for this research. I figured out that there had to a policy that living prophet always outweighed out scripture and previous prophets. I've noticed that Mormon Apologists use scriptures to attack others ... but simple ignore scriptures when it counters their opinions.
I remember being taught this when I was growing up. My grandpa was a member of the Quorum of the Twelve (until he died a few years ago) and we were taught that there was "Grandpa" Scott and "Elder" Scott, depending on the role he was playing at the time. After leaving the church, it took a little bit to separate the "Grandpa" side from the "Elder" side. As a grandfather, he was very caring and kind and loving, but that doesn't mean that I have to believe every word that he taught. I have learned to keep the good family memories and experiences and remember the good things, while still being able to understand that he really believed everything he was saying and that I think it is false. But I relate to this video on a personal level and agree 100% that Mormons trust and rely on the leadership of the church too much
It sounds like the LDS prophet has more power to speak for God to the church than even the Pope himself's. That's is scary. The Pope is infallible only when a certain criteria is met and not in all things. I do believe in God and that he/she gave it to us a brain to use to recognize truth from a lie.
@14:10 what you said about how they can even control how you vote. I remember back a few years before I left the church when the Bishop was telling us during sacrament meeting that “your vote in the upcoming election is still your vote, we should all follow after what the prophet and the general authorities has said at present and in the past “. My son and daughter in-law since leaving the church have found out the Utah general assembly sends all bills to church headquarters prior to they go up for a vote on the House floor, then the church has to give their approval before it becomes law
John Morris wow! Nobody complains about the lack of separation between church and state?!?! I live in Canada and it’s inconceivable to me that can happen in the US!!! Crazy!!!
Interesting quote here! The LDS can't have it both ways IMHO. “Do NOT brethren, put your trust in a man though he be a bishop, an apostle, or a president. If you do, they will fail you at some time or place; they will do wrong or seem to, and your support will be gone...” - Apostle George Q. Cannon, Millennial Star, v. 53, pp. 658-659, as quoted in Gospel Truth, v. 1, p. 319

That old man had good reasons to be upset about the prophets not supporting Old Age Assistance. When I converted as a teen, I had no idea that the church had fought against Social Security and similar government programs to take care of the elderly. Now that I'm in my sixties and have disabilities, I can certainly understand the need for that "Old Age Assistance". Bishops often don't extend help (or enough help) and grown children usually can't afford to take care of your needs. The Quorum of the 12 and the "prophet" and his counselors usually came from very well off families and were salaried, anyway. They didn't seem to have much regard for their "common" members. They started Church Welfare only to keep people from going to the government for assistance, and as an excuse to fight off Social Security.
Growing up in the church, I remember being in Deacon, Teachers, and Priest Quorum, listening to lessons on following your priesthood leaders even if they were wrong, that you were not responsible for their mistakes, I ready it being hammered home that the first law of heaven was obedience, I remember it being stated that when the Prophet speaks the debate is over. There was also impression that was given if that if you died on your mission that your place in the Celestial Kingdom was guaranteed. I was not raised in a strict Mormon home, I was raised to respect all religions but, at 19 when I went on my mission my mind set was at the point that if the Prophet or any Apostle would asked me to strap a bomb to myself and blow myself up For the cause, I would have done so without question. it is scary now to think how mush blind faith I had put in church leaders.

I've been sometimes saying things to her gently about her religion. Recently, she made a comment that her church was a denomination of Christianity & I said that your religion believes a different Jesus. She didn't say anything after that... I thought she might say "What do mean?" Maybe she will think about that & ask me later. Please give me some ideas Lex to talk to her about her man-made religion~ Thanks🙂

There is a test mentioned in the Bible in which how we know a true prophet or not. For sure the Mormon prophets failed the test by their unfulfilled prophecies.
And the fact that the admin of this message board block Lexi's question and banned her for it is proof enough that Brighamite Mormons are *not* Christians. It clearly states in the Bible that we are to test all self-proclaimed prophets whether they are legit or not.

From the Prophet Wilford Woodruff's writings, "Waiting for World's End: The Diaries of The Prophet Wilford Woodruff p. 305). “President Brigham Young shared with me one of his most spiritual prophetic moments with the Prophet Joseph Smith in 1838. Smith gave the revelation to Brother Brigham that the garden of Eden was in Jackson County, Missouri, and when Adam was driven out of the garden of Eden, he went about 40 miles to the place which we named “Adam- Ondi- Ahman,” & there built an altar of stone & offered sacrifice. That Altar remains to this day. I saw it with my very own eyes just as Adam left it as did many others, & through all the revolutions of the world that Altar had not been disturbed. The prophet also revealed that when the City of Enoch fled & was translated it was where the Gulf of Mexico now is. It left that gulf a body of water. 'This is the valley of God in which Adam blessed his children,' he said, 'and upon this very altar Adam himself offered up sacrifices to Jehovah....we will lay out a city which shall be called Adam-ondi-Ahman. Here Adam, the Ancient of Days, shall come to visit his people.'" HOWEVER, a few years later, in 1851, the Prophet Joseph Smith said the following “And, I, the Lord God caused a river to go out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted and became into four heads. . .. And the name of the second river was called Gihon; the same that compasseth the whole land of ETHIOPIA. And the name of the third river was Hiddekel; that which goeth toward the east of ASSYRIA. And the fourth river was the EUPHRATES. (1851 Pearl of Great Price, Moses 3:10, 13-14)
We must not forget about 1 of the covenants made in the temple: the law of obedience. Maybe that's why your poll was so high on the follow the prophet no matter what option. If they said no, they'd be breaking their covenants with the church
This is a great video. In 2017 I was taking courses from 2 women Missionaries and in February I ended the courses. I was told to read different chapters of the Book of Mormon and during the day and night pray to see if God said that the Church of Jesus Christ and the Book of Mormon was true. I didn't get an answer.
0:22 I watch videos with the captions on, and just had to point out that at this moment of your video, while you clearly said you will go back to listen to the sacrament meeting, the captions read 'sacrum eating'. Sorry, my anatomy-loving brain just thought that was super funny.
I remember our YW/YM leaders doing a whole lesson series based on this talk when I was a beehive and winding us up through this faux Socratic method question and answer session where they dragged us through a bunch of other talks and some scripture chase to confirm and reinforce every single point. Apparently someone had been questioning a little too loudly…and some of us left the room questioning a lot more, just quietly.
I'm a mormon even now. I was taught from when I was a child I'm now 59. What ever came for salt lake prophet on down, even local local leadership, to always take things to the god in pray for my own personal confermation. If something doesn't seem correct at one level take it up to the next level. I don't take anyone word on anything until they have earned my respect or loyalty. However clearly I'm not the avg. mormon I believe the god wants honest sincerely humble questioning over blind obedience. I don't have faith in a man at any level, I have faith in God
Thanks for watching! I assume you disagree with President Benson then? You believe members should pray to get confirmation if what the prophet says is true?
@@ExmoLex on little issues like dropping the Boy Scouts, even small verbiage changes in the temple, the new home teaching ministering, all they did was change the name the meat of the program hasn't changed so just do it. Farron1960 I think the key issue with you methodology is the presupposition that there actually is a God up there who can give you this info. I’d be willing to bet that he always agrees with whatever you already believe to be right / wrong.
The first thing I did with my 5 children is teach them to find out for themselves and ask questions. The youngest you can be at baptism is sge 8 so it seems obvious to me they need to be accountable for their actions. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints is still being restored. The gathering of the house of Israel is happening on both sides of the veil. I'm so excited for the Second coming of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
That is exactly right the church will continue onward there will always be a prophet on the earth whether u agree with him or not is up to you I for one am glad we have someone who tells it like it is and doesn't make excuses and does it with absolute and complete love
Hey ExMo Lex! Great video research and content! I agree a large percentage Mormons in would do what he says unquestionably. I hope they never go full Heaven’s Gate. Like you said, the most important thing is to use your brain and decide for yourself. PS: I would love to see more of your perspective on how you would change the Young Women’s program and Relief Society.
Quick comment: questioning ward members, should be done delicately or they may shut down. One good question may be: What is the best thing and worst thing about this church/organization?
Just Deadpool I r got the YW and RS programs on my list to talk about, I just have so many things I want to discuss so it might be awhile! And great idea on the talking to church members 👍

I was told that If you follow the prophet and he is wrong, YOU WILL STILL BE BLESSED! That was from the local LDS stake patriarch. Obviously not particularly good advice.

That's one of the reasons why left the mormon Organisation again. It shocks me each time when I see how blindly Mormons trust their leaders. This is a big sign of a cult to me.
We need more snark from ex mormon women. Ex mormon men get a free pass to snark all they want, but we exmo women are still conditioned to be "nice" No one would blink twice if this amount of sarcasm came from mr atheist, for example. 😁 I love your snark and hope to see more of it in the future.
I have been "out" for 23 years. Today I can't imagine handing my agency over to a man I've never met. My relationship with Jesus would forbid such an arrangement.
While part of the reason he put in so many obvious points was probably to get to 14, part of the reason was almost certainly to put in some easy-to-agree-with points so that the other ones, which may not be taken so easily by some members of the church or by people outside the church, are also easier to agree with. It's this idea of: "Some of it is obviously right so all of it must be right." In addition, if I were making this speech and genuinely agreed with what I was saying, an easy way to build out arguments is to start in a place where everyone agrees and build from there. Putting in some of these more obvious points (especially since some or all of these points do seem to build off one another) is a pretty decent example of that. Of course, I'm not and never have been a Mormon, so I could be missing quite a bit of context here. This is just my take as a person who is interested in political science and has taken a few Enish classes where I needed to write argumentative papers, and also as a person that has a few spicier opinions on things like gender and sexuality (as a queer person studying queerness academically) that those with both no education and no experience in the topic often disagree with.
All parents should take responsibility for the children they bring into this world and teach them to think for themselves and to always be suspicious of anyone who professes to have a direct connection to God and has been called by God to minister and /or have authority over God's Children.
You’d think that the prophet walks in water based on how Mormons revere the man. He doesn’t. He’s supposed to be the holiest man alive but he follows the same commandments as everyone else. So why is this old old guy so damn special?
I don’t remember ever being taught that prophets are infallible. However, if they aren’t, then it leads to all the problems we have here, so much that their prophetic calling seems to go out the window. One would be justified in concluding that in matters of spirituality and/or Church governance, the prophet(s) must be infallible, otherwise it allows for the possibility that the Church isn’t directed by God as much as they say it is. Does that make sense?
Leaders Speak, Thinking is Done - Mormon Quotes Improvement Era, June 1945; “When our leaders speak, the thinking has been done. When they propose a plan-it is God’s plan. When they point the way, there is no other which is safe. When they give direction, it should mark the end of controversy. God works in no other way. To think otherwise, without immediate repentance, may cost one his faith, may destroy his testimony, and leave him a stranger to the kingdom of God.”
I agree that following anyone blindly is dangerous. Putting so much belief in what one person says...it's scary and opens people up that trust being abused; as you point out with the cults that have conned their members into killing themselves (and others). As someone raised Christian (I consider myself agnostic now), I don't understand why more people don't have issue with a man putting his words over those of Jesus in the scriptures. It's pure idolatry. The Jesus I grew up learning about would fIip some serious tables over that, he'd be pissed! The way things are structured in mormonism should make people wonder, and if they're told not to think for themselves (even on only certain issues that the "prophet" dictated) it should send up red flags*, especially about temptation by a man away from the word of God...isn't that just what the Bible warns about when it teaches about following false prophets etc. And how clever of "Satan" would it be if the mormon church was actually his doing and was his way of getting people to mindlessly follow, while giving him 10+% of their earnings to make him rich lol. I mean, what other reason is there to disparage other religions as being false etc. (I can't help picturing the guy from Lucifer, the TV show, feeling smug over it and claiming it as some of his best work). I also think it's hilarious & so convenient that being the prophet only really seems to count while you're alive (or the first guy who said the prophet is the all important dude), so the next guy can pull the "god changed his mind and now XYZ." Much cult, so wow! I wondered, do you think each one actually believes he _is_ a real prophet & thinks he does speak for god/god speaks through him? If not, then do you think the next tier down think he is, or are they all just in it for the money at that point and they all know it's all one big scam? I'm just wondering if & at what level people are not drinking the kool-aid and just laughing at those that still are. How/when is the next prophet decided? If your question on that group made just one person question the problem with blind faith then you did a good thing. 👍 [*though I guess the problem with indoctrination of generation after generation is that it's just normal to them, and for the newbies that stick around (as with most cults I expect, and also the reason why they're targeted in the first place) is because they're looking for someone to tell them how to live their lives (because they fucked up and don't know how to fix it; are afraid to fuck up if left to their own decisions); are previous abuse victims who are vulnerable to being taken advantage of again; are super gullible; or, as is the case with gangs, because they want to belong somewhere _so much_ , to feel loved and accepted, to the point that they'll overlook any negatives/red flags.]
Yeah I didn't really like the profit even as a concept when I heard of it. 🤔 I though oh no now we have someone who can stop people from thinking for themselves. 🤦
I'm an evangelical, charismatic Christian who believes in the Trinity of God and the Bible as the only Word of God. Although I still believe that local churches should have leadership (elders) and that leadership should be respected, we clearly teach that any advice given to you for your life, should be tested by the Word of God. The Word of God remains the fixed standard. We teach that the gifts of the Holy Spirit is still active today, meaning someone can have the ability to prophesy over your life or give you a word of knowledge with the sole purpose of edifying you. Even this has to be tested in the Word, because we realize that people can sometimes speak into your life with an agenda of their own and not that of God. We teach that Holy Spirit will never contradict the Word of God.
I vote no I would not. As a mormon I was taught to get my own conformation from Lord by way of the Holy Ghost, with and all leadership and their decisions. blindly following any one is crazy.
I know the LDS doesn't put much stock in the Bible itself but in the Bible there is a sure fire way of testing Prophets and if they are indeed speaking for God and it also says if 1 prediction does not come to pass they are to be accursed and they are not of God boom JS not of God .
I have realized how much it doesn't make sense when they say "don't listen to the past prophets. Listen to the living ones." Yet they still take quotes from Hinckley and Monson's talks....sooo....aren't they just doing exactly what they're not supposed to do?
Really enjoyed your video. Lot's of great things to consider and I share many of your concerns. FYI...the quote about Joseph and Brigham and the "living oracles" is really not a fair quote to attribute to Joseph ...it comes from Wilford Woodruff in 1897 in General conference. He's quoting a meeting he says he attended in the 1830s...over 60 years prior. It's not a reliable quote at all and has ZERO contemporaneous backup (journals, letters, publications) from Joseph at least to establish that he taught that "living oracles" could supersede the scriptures. There is no proof that Wilford’s recollection is accurate and his contemporary journals at the time don’t reflect those remarks. Here is the full quote from Wilford: "I will refer to a certain meeting I attended in the town of Kirtland in my early days. At that meeting some remarks were made that have been made here today, with regard to the living oracles and with regard to the written word of God. The same principle was presented, although not as extensively as it has been here, when a leading man in the Church got up and talked upon the subject, and said: “You have got the word of God before you here in the Bible, Book of Mormon, and Doctrine and Covenants; you have the written word of God, and you who give revelations should give revelations according to those books, as what is written in those books is the word of God. We should confine ourselves to them.” When he concluded, Brother Joseph turned to Brother Brigham Young and said, “Brother Brigham I want you to take the stand and tell us your views with regard to the written oracles and the written word of God.” Brother Brigham took the stand, and he took the Bible, and laid it down; he took the Book of Mormon, and laid it down; and he took the Book of Doctrine and Covenants, and laid it down before him, and he said: “There is the written word of God to us, concerning the work of God from the beginning of the world, almost, to our day.” “And now,” said he, “when compared with the living oracles those books are nothing to me; those books do not convey the word of God direct to us now, as do the words of a Prophet or a man bearing the Holy Priesthood in our day and generation. I would rather have the living oracles than all the writing in the books.” That was the course he pursued. When he was through, Brother Joseph said to the congregation: “Brother Brigham has told you the word of the Lord, and he has told you the truth.” (Wilford Woodruff, Conference Report, October 1897, p.22-23) Joseph’s Smith’s official position is published in a Times and Seasons article in April 1844, before he was killed. Here’s the quote: "If any man writes to you, or preaches to you , doctrines contrary to the Book of Mormon, or the book of Doctrine and Covenants, set him down as an imposter. You need not write to us to know what you are to do with such men; you have the authority with you.-Try then by the principles contained in the acknowledged word of God; if they preach, or teach, or practice contrary to that , disfellowship them; cut them off from among you as useless and dangerous branches, and if they are belonging to one of the quorums in the church, report them to the president of the quorum to which they belong, and if you cannot find that out, if they are members of an official standing, belonging to Nauvoo, report them to us. Follow after purity, virtue, holiness, integrity, Godliness, and everything that has a tendency to exalt and ennoble the human mind; and shun every man who teaches any other principles." Times and Seasons Vol 5, No.7 (April 1, 1844), p 490-491. Hope this is helpful. I look forward to more of your videos.
That quote is not one I found myself, it is used by Ezra Benson in his talk, and that is where I quote it from. If it is incorrect, he (a supposed apostle of the lord) apparently did not think so. 😂
@@ExmoLex Good point. Benson was wrong...dead wrong, and should never have passed on the quote. Unfortunately the LDS Church does this a lot--they attribute to Joseph things that he NEVER said nor did based on wholly unfounded reports by 1) his enemies 2) by Brighamite polygamists (both of these groups had strong agendas for different reasons). Joseph Smith is NOT the LDS Church...he revealed, preached and practiced a FUNDAMENTALLY different faith than the LDS Church, or any other institution that claims him as their founder does today. Both apologists and antagonists make the same mistakes...they pass along quotes from historical sources that are just plain wrong or unfounded. I think what you're doing is a really helpful exploration of Mormonism, but i would encourage you that before you pass along a source that you 1) verify the actual source 2) explain to your audience who made the statement 3) when they said it (this matters because a great deal of what people think Joseph did comes from unverified uncorroborated statements from people decades after his death 4) explain the context, the why of the statement...explain any potential biases for or against Joseph. Without doing this, we all perpetuate slander and the spread of misleading information disguised as "history". You might note that I am NOT an apologist for the LDS Church...I just believe Joseph is HIGHLY misunderstood.
Jeremy Hoop I might have more interest in doing that if the point of my video was to showcase Joseph Smith, but it isn’t. At least in this case it’s focusing on how much members trust the prophet. I didn’t pull the quote/story, Benson did. I pulled HIS address. It would be incredibly time-consuming to verify every source that he used in his own talk, and since he claimed to be speaking for the entire church (and the church continues to have this published in their own site), I have no issue with putting it out there the way he intended it.
@@ExmoLex I agree with you on your point, but you undermine your case when you cite a fallacious source. Just trying to help you out cuz fundamentally I agree with you
Jeremy Hoop again, not my source - given by a supposed prophet. I understand what you’re saying, and normally I would agree. But in a case like this where he is citing dozens of different things, I literally don’t have time to fact check them all. The fact that the church didn’t and still hasn’t bothered to verify his words only weakens their case that they have “the power of discernment” and are led by god. If god didn’t want a false narrative out there, he would have stopped President Benson from publicly making this claim over the pulpit, or at least let President Nelson (or one of the ones before him) know about it, and they could have taken it off their website. So I guess what I’m saying is that while I agree that fact checking is important, I disagree that it was necessary on MY end in this instance. But in the future you can probably expect to see more of it as long as it is not in this type of context. (:
If we accept that the leaders of the church have the gift of prophecy, then we have to accept that as a prophet of the Lord it doesn’t matter if the prophet states things as a "Declaration of Doctrine" or a "Revelation" from Heavenly Father. I find it difficult to accept that God would give a prophet of the Lord erroneous thinking in ANY way that would mislead people from the truth of the gospel? If President Nelson today says something at General Conference the people accept it as truth. It isn't necessary that he "qualify" whether something he says is revelation or doctrine or his opinions. A true prophet of God will not say anything that is untrue. ANYTHING! The members today accept that President Nelson is led by God to speak the truth no matter what he says, when he says it, where he says it, or how he says it. The LDS member shouldn’t have to "overthink" or "over analyze" statements by prophets to determine what is true and what is not. A prophet of the Lord may not be saying each time he speaks that his words come directly from Heavenly Father, but we shouldn't have to make excuses to defend a prophet whether he be dead or alive. You take Brigham Young’s comments and beliefs about his Adam/God theory for example. Young said, “"Now hear it, O inhabitants of the earth, Jew and Gentile, Saint and sinner! When our father Adam came into the garden of Eden, he came into it with a celestial body, and brought Eve, one of his wives, with him. He helped to make and organize this world. He is MICHAEL, the Archangel, the ANCIENT OF DAYS! about whom holy men have written and spoken - He is our FATHER and our GOD, and the only God with whom WE have to do. Every man upon the earth, professing Christians or non-professing, must hear it, and will know it sooner or later!" (Prophet Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, v. 1, p. 51). Today the church repudiates this and doesn’t teach it anymore.
I guess the prophet died on the cross for the sins of the world including there sins ... even though Christ Jesus was the ONLY God who became man who was WITHOUT sin!? Come on people!!

Did you ever hear the one (and I paraphrase), "The wise regard religion as false, the simple as true, and the rulers as useful" ?
@Teddygalbis Nephi decapitated an unconscious man "because the Spirit told him to." So yeah, if Rusty Nelson says to kill the infidels, we are toast.

The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.
Did anyone else ever think the “follow the prophet” song from primary days was like a dark ominous song???? I did not like the tune of that. It reminded me of this old Halloween song from the 90s....
Brainwashing through song. I also felt it wasn't good
Oh my gosh… You’re right. The melody is super creepy!
Culters gotta cult 🙄
LOL!
😂

When you lead a cult, you are "above" logic; those who dare to question will either leave, be pushed out, or begin to question their sanity.
Nothing like going down the rabbit hole of ex-mormon content on a Sunday.
I'm a solid 5 years out of the church now and those 5 are the best of my whole life. Have there been hard times? Yes. Still the best 5 years because I wasn't processing those hard times through the lense of mormon guilt that somehow those hard times were because I wasn't trying at something hard enough. SO SO glad I left. Best damn decision I ever made!
Okay it's challenge time for the faithful Latter-day Saints;
Tomorrow is Sunday, so here's the challenge, with the exception of prayers, count how many times the name of Jesus is even mentioned, in either Priesthood meeting, Relief Society, Sacrament meeting, or Sunday School. Do that for 4 weeks, God will reveal to you what you really worship.
Ken Olson, over 500 times per month in my Ward, surprising how wrong your assumptions are isn't it, now I'll give you a challenge!

Doing anything your leader asks is how we have the mountain meadows massacre. Granted that wasn't the prophet, but it's a similar sentiment.
Brigham Young has his own personal assassin named Porter Rockwell. Young was slimy pile garbage.

Great comment ! Love it. Holy shit! This is crazy! Thank you Lexi!
But I relate to this video on a personal level and agree 100% that Mormons trust and rely on the leadership of the church too much
Huh, Richard G Scott is one those "Apostles" I genuinely respected. Glad to know it was worth it.
Crazy!!!
Love the Holy-Koolaid nod! His channel was extremely helpful in my deprogramming phase.

I'm glad that the members are leaving this cult. I do have one mormon lady friend... I've been sometimes saying things to her gently about her religion. Recently, she made a comment that her church was a denomination of Christianity & I said that your religion believes a different Jesus. She didn't say anything after that... I thought she might say "What do mean?" Maybe she will think about that & ask me later.
Please give me some ideas Lex to talk to her about her man-made religion~

And the fact that the admin of this message board block Lexi's question and banned her for it is proof enough that Brighamite Mormons are *not* Christians. It clearly states in the Bible that we are to test all self-proclaimed prophets whether they are legit or not.

I am an atheist raised Christian who has lived in the northern SLC area now for two years. There are many similarities between the evangelical crowd and the LDS folks. One such is their belief that, despite having the "truth", they will shield/protect themselves from being challenged to think/reason. I was always of the persuasion that if you truly believe you hold the truth, it should withstand all scrutiny and as such was very open to other opinions/viewpoints. I changed my beliefs after college and reading much about the topic.

The first thing I did with my 5 children is teach them to find out for themselves and ask questions. The youngest you can be at baptism is sge 8 so it seems obvious to me they need to be accountable for their actions. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints is still being restored. The gathering of the house of Israel is happening on both sides of the veil. I'm so excited for the Second coming of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
So I’m assuming you disagree with President Benson then?
Too much $$$ involved to go heavensgate. Cannot interrupt that cashflow to the top.

D&Cs 130:14-16
14 I was once praying very earnestly to know the time of the coming of the Son of Man, when I heard a voice repeat the following:
15 Joseph, my son, if thou livest until thou art eighty-five years old, thou shalt see the face of the Son of Man; therefore let this suffice, and trouble me no more on this matter.
16 I was left thus, without being able to decide whether this coming referred to the beginning of the millennium or to some previous appearing, or whether I should die and thus see his face.

35 Because their hearts are set so much upon the things of this world, and aspire to the honors of men, that they do not learn this one lesson-

Wow....just wow.
Looking back on church days like what da fuck. Its so different from the outside looking in. I grew up in a cult?! 😬
Leaders Speak, Thinking is Done - Mormon Quotes
Improvement Era, June 1945; “When our leaders speak, the thinking has been done.
But what if you are really need a drink and the cool aid is all you have lol
I also think it's hilarious & so convenient that being the prophet only really seems to count while you're alive (or the first guy who said the prophet is the all important dude), so the next guy can pull the "god changed his mind and now XYZ."
Much cult, so wow!
[*though I guess the problem with indoctrination of generation after generation is that it's just normal to them, and for the newbies that stick around (as with most cults I expect, and also the reason why they're targeted in the first place) is because they're looking for someone to tell them how to live their lives (because they fucked up and don't know how to fix it; are afraid to fuck up if left to their own decisions); are previous abuse victims who are vulnerable to being taken advantage of again; are super gullible; or, as is the case with gangs, because they want to belong somewhere _so much_ , to feel loved and accepted, to the point that they'll overlook any negatives/red flags.]

Yeah I didn't really like the profit even as a concept when I heard of it. 🤔 I though oh no now we have someone who can stop people from thinking for themselves. 🤦
Do they? Yes, from my perspective. But then my current belief is that there's never been any such thing as a prophet. It's just some guy.
Great video ! Ty !

The living oracles are the most dangerous aspect of ANY cultic group. The living prophet (oracle) is a concept that must be rejected.

I know the LDS doesn't put much stock in the Bible itself but in the Bible there is a sure fire way of testing Prophets and if they are indeed speaking for God and it also says if 1 prediction does not come to pass they are to be accursed and they are not of God boom JS not of God .
Yes, they trust too much.

I have realized how much it doesn't make sense when they say "don't listen to the past prophets. Listen to the living ones." Yet they still take quotes from Hinckley and Monson's talks....sooo....aren't they just doing exactly what they're not supposed to do?
Probably how Mountain Meadows came to happen…
Here is the full quote from Wilford:
"I will refer to a certain meeting I attended in the town of Kirtland in my early days. When he was through, Brother Joseph said to the congregation: “Brother Brigham has told you the word of the Lord, and he has told you the truth.” (Wilford Woodruff, Conference Report, October 1897, p.22-23)
Joseph’s Smith’s official position is published in a Times and Seasons article in April 1844, before he was killed. Here’s the quote:
"If any man writes to you, or preaches to you , doctrines contrary to the Book of Mormon, or the book of Doctrine and Covenants, set him down as an imposter.
Imagine the chicanery involved in becoming a prophet. Only one GUY at a time gets to do it.
This reminds me of 1984.
Hoses and the book of songs of Solomon wrote in the book of truth will you be able to see the truth of the lord
I guess the prophet died on the cross for the sins of the world including there sins ... even though Christ Jesus was the ONLY God who became man who was WITHOUT sin!? Come on people!!
What the prophet says comes from god so why would you not trust him ?
Hello my name is Steve, i just watched one of your videos just now and it was very interesting in what you spoke about, about Joseph Smith and believing in what a living prophet says is to be true. The word of God tells us to beware of false prophets out in the world. beleive no one. THe word of God says in the book of Romans:3:4 let God be true and man a lier.
