  • In modern basketball, the pick and roll or ball screens are king and the majority of offenses go through theses actions to create looks. In doing so, defenses have had to adjust and find creative ways to slow down the offense and eliminate the advantages of a ball screen. One of these ideas is "Downing" or "Icing", where the defense forces the ball away from the screen to keep them on a given side of the floor. In this vide, we dove into the three levels of ball screen defense to really breakdown what makes this coverage successful! Many teams in the NBA utilize this scheme and coverage in their defense with tweaks due to personnel and matchups but a lot of high level defenses use this often, including Dallas, Philadelphia, Golden State, and Phoenix. So, in the video we took a look at all four of these teams and how they use the coverage and highlighted commonalities across all four teams. Hope you enjoy and learn something new about elite defenses at the highest levels of basketball!
