I remember my 1978 Artist having the same dowels. Wish I'd kept my Artist, I also purchased a then brand new IC-400 in Midnight Olive, more regrets letting that one go in 1980.
I bought an '81 Artist in 1997 or thereabouts. It had started out white, but over the years it had yellowed to a pretty cream color. I sold it in 2006 for $350, and I've been kicking myself ever since I saw almost the exact same guitar going for $2,500 on Reverb.
It went on for ages, nothing happened, and then just when I was hoping you were going to show how you repaired it, the video finished! That's bloody frustrating! We want to see the repair!
Great Content, Thank You Back in 1978 I purchased a brand new Ibanez Artist, all Ash with the fancy inlays, it was a great guitar. I switched to Ibanez to replace the 1977 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe I was using, at that time the Ibanez the better guitar of the two. Wish I'd kept it, the Flying Finger Super 80 Pickups were pretty nice. Not sure, but I believe the Vintage Japanese solder used a different ratio of Tin/Lead than modern Solder.
No extended tenon in a 2 octave neck they did a previous version with a regular neck heel in both 24 /22 fret versions I never liked this model !!I sold loads of these in the seventies ! That bridge assembly causes harsh over tones and frequencies....Ibanez meets Gibson and Alembic! flying finger embossingi
Wow, what a mess. I’m curious to see how you fix. I am at the seven minute mark beautiful guitar. I actually have a brand new one on its way. I’ll watch the rest of the video. Good luck.
What was wrong with the repair? did it make the guitar unplayable or tuning unstable? if it was ok then keep it as is? Looks like a tough job rather you than me.
I have been doing guitar repair work since 2015 on a part time basis. That was the wrong way to fix this beautiful guitar. you have the right idea drill out the dowels and heat the neck heel
Disgusting! I'm not anthropomorphizing an object but a guitar like that has an history and a "soul", if you know you can't fix it let a pro do it, there is no problem to say "I don't know"...!! Sad, very sad😢
I own the same model, 2618. The dowels are factory.
Never seen an Artist with these issues, truly amazing guitars
Same. Mine has dowells

Same dowels in my 1986 AS-200
Always wanted one of these guitars,I still do & I don’t believe they all have this problem, must have taken a fall.
Great job so far. It’s the sort of repair that I would run a mile from, really looking forward to seeing the next episode.
I always wanted one of these. I shoulda bought one 15 years ago, prices are probably crazy now.
I remember when these came out, a buddy of mine had one that was a step up from this one. It was a fantastic guitar and the pups really rocked
Gorilla glue an drywall screws would fix that
For real man it problem solving skills like that is why I have you work on all my stuff 😊
This channel should be sponsored by Gorilla Glue

This is like watching a train wreck!
Let's see how it ends...
That was great...Awesome video
You probably know but if you add a little spider it will help get the old moving.
JB Weld
And your patience with some of these comments is admirable.
Mine included.
!!Kidding about the JB Weld!!

Old unleaded solder has a higher melting temperature than leaded..
One of the finest guitars to come out of Japan, better than some of the Gibsons😉
19:24 Wish you would had removed the bridge pickup, running a motor so close to the pickup magnets can cause problem.
Glad it didn't affect it.
The dowels are factory, Greco guitars also have them
Those are sweet. I remember seeing photos of Steve Miller with one. Carvin had a model very similar to this called the DC.

Definitely a challenge 😇.
Looks like they made that guitar from a 1980’s boardroom
Sweet axe! Great video…
Anybody ever tell you that you sound exactly like Jeff Daniels.
That was extreme! (that's what she said)
That neck joint was a poor design.
There isn't enough wood in the body at the joint.
Sweet love this stuff!
I’ve never seen a guitar neck percolate like that! 😂
I’m concerned of the rest of the electronics. Water/steam isn’t good for the guitar.
I got to see how you will repair this one ,,,,,
I see several reasons I would never buy one of these
Toda esa agua que desperdicias la puedes echar a una planta o un árbol 🤦
¿En serio? La máquina de vapor utiliza literalmente una taza de agua. Preocúpese por los problemas reales.

I can imagine the guy that did the dowel job watching this video and saying, I did the best I could! 😂
It is stock reinforcements, not a repair :)
Why not use our a larger bit and drill the dowls completely gone?
