octopi can live up to 20 years
tyler jonhson octopuses*
octopenes can live up 2 a year. casserole
In the ocean they may live longer, but the max life span in captivity is about 5yrs for larger species and less for smaller species.
I heard if an octopus bites you, you will turn into one on the light of a full sun.

Yeah that tank is way too large for the octopus. It’s not that hard getting a smaller tank they are cheaper I don’t know why the owner risked hurting his octopus.
Glad babyspeak for animals wasn't invented yet back then.
@leetlebob The difference is you have the CHOICE to leave your house whenever you want, a properly contained octopus does not, & while they are VERY good at escaping (which they often do, if they feel unhappy, they will NOT survive out of water permanently, though can survive outside for a considerable amount of time) . Octopi in captivity often commit autophagia unless they are properly mentally stimulated & given a large enough environment to live in & flourish. I kept my small octopus (Atlantic Pygmy Octopus - Octopus joubini) which was about 4 inches long, in a custom 82 gallon tank with MANY other animals. The inhabitants included live rock, live sand, soft & hard coral, sea anemones, purple gorgonians, cleaner crabs, sea snails, various fish such as tangs, false & true percale clownfish, dwarf angelfish, lemon peel nudibranchs, & some maxima clams. OBVIOUSLY ALL these animals had to be bigger than my octopus (Sally was her name) or animals that she wouldn't normally consume. In captivity they consume almost any animal smaller or slower than it, IF given the opportunity or IF they feel they have no other options. In the wild however Octopus joubini normally ONLY consume small crustaceans & mollusks.
Unless you have owned an octopus, please dont make judgements/ give advice based on what you assume is correct. They are HIGHLY intelligent, love to play, become quite energetic during the dark hours, & even sweet in disposition. They can "taste" using their arms & Sally ALWAYS came over to examine my hand & suction unto me, even if I had no food in it. She would love it when I would make custom glass puzzles that she had to open or find a way to enter so she could find a treat which in her case was her favorite food, blue legged hermit crabs & small emerald crabs. They are FAR too intelligent to consume as food. They are the smartest of ALL invertebrates & I frankly have chosen to NEVER eat another one again, same with cuttlefish...NEVER again. Squid on the other hand are quite stupid in comparison. You dont need to be a Neo liberal snowflake to have compassion for another intelligent living being. If you want to keep one as a pet, dont support the immoral & often illegal saltwater trade by buying one taken from the wild, buy one born in captivity & RESEARCH before you own one. Owning an octopus is one thing, owning a HAPPY & HEALTHY octopus is entirely another proposition. It takes dedication, care, $ & even love. NONE of my marine inhabitants have been taken from the wild. NONE. Sally lived to be 2 years & 26 days old. Thats VERY old for an octopus.
Awww how did u make ur octopus play ?
I enjoyed reading your comment, you sound like you really love & appreciate what an amazing creature they are. I could never own one, myself, but I would love the opportunity to interact with them, pity not many aquariums (here in Australia, anyway) offer that experience.
It's great to know there's caring people like yourself, who create the perfect environment for them & not just for your entertainment. Thanks for sharing
If I had a octopus, I'd show him the movie Alien so he could have a superhero idol to relate to and bring him hope!

ok just looking at this video I feel like i want a pet octopus because this octopus looks cool swimming
withered bonnie If you did get your octopus be sure to give it toys and puzzles to challenge its mind if you want it to be happy. Dont just leave it to swim around in the tank for your amusement.
And get a very big tank remember most saltwater fish are caught from the sea so they used to have very big homes until moved into tiny tanks
They only live a year, by how old your comment is you could have gone through two or three of them already
octopuses are smart organisms to be kept in such small enclosures.
We are smart. :)
I spend my life in a small studio apartment and a cubicle office so I think the octopus is fine bud lol
There are fish tanks with a motor that can be driven around by the pet which I think would be seen as good for this
@@thegoon3088 this is literally the dumbest thing I've ever heard. You can leave your tiny ass apartment and do other things to occupy you. The octopus only has as much stimulus as what's in its tank. So yea a bigger tank with more stimulus would be much more ideal. They are very smart and will kill themselves if they are bored.
She's not shy... absolutely beautiful color on her too! Nice job keeping her... well done!
Such elegance and grace, a real beauty of an octopus indeed!
how long did it take to get the tank set up & going (water chemistry) so it is safe for her & how often does she eat? is she full size?
Your octopus is so cute! I'm thinking about getting one sometime :)
So clear and stable (the tank) especially since octopuses are hard to maintain!
Wow swear she had a happy dance after eating, lol. You can see her thinking, bet it is hard to keep an octopi entertained!
1:22 to 1:30 dancing crab gets eaten
the crab's dance moves were so lame that the hipster octopus could no longer tolerate its existence
i love how it sticks to the glass and rocks! i feel sorry for the crabs though, oh well, it's nature. and you can't feed and octopus with fish flakes.
Absolutely gorgeous octopus!!!Lucky you to own such a beautiful pet!!
Wonderful and beautiful creature!
Shes very cute XD

As a crab owner…
I find this video very ethical and awesome, octopuses are amazing! Also make sure it doesn’t escape.
Edit: oh.
How do you keep Ursula from escaping the Tank?....your friend CHRIS THE HOBBY GUY
ChrisTheHobbyGuy never saw her try
She was happy to hide in her conch shell
That is great mine tries to climb out so I had to use a wire top...thanks your friend..
CHRIS THE HOBBY GUY
ChrisTheHobbyGuy maybe you should put something where it can hide
Yes you must change the water immediately or the Octopus will die because the water will be polluted. The good thing is that they will spray ink only if they are threatened and in the home aquarium if you keep them alone they will feel comfortable and not scary ink...your friend Chris
wow I justr commented on your video lol
what song is this?
I'd love to have one just to be able to see such an amazing creature every day. But like you said, I could never bring myself to keeping one in captivity.
Octopi are such gorgeous creatures. I just hope you have her enough to do in there.
So, octopus is a predator? Do you have an separate aquarium for the crabs?

"Mid-sized octopus that typically weighs up to 35 oz. (1 kg) as adults",
from the book "Octopus: The ocean's intelligent invertebrate"
I had one for two years and he would come out of the tank and play with me.He would crawl down my arm and rub his head on my neck.He would go back in the fish tank when he wanted to.My tank was huge and i had to let him go when i moved. He did bite me when i first got him,so i flicked him with my fingers and he didn't do it again. The best pet i ever had.
You need more toys man, Octopus get bored easily and if you don't keep them entertained they will eat themselves and stress to death. That tank is too baren for a hyper intelligent animal. Needs tubes, shells, maybe even toddler toys that aren't dangerous to her.
+Shawn Scientifica
Well, she does feed it live food. Although I think this a pretty inhumane practice.
so amazingly beautiful.
Soooo Cuuuute!
I always thought that their ability to break out of a tank and crawl across the floor was just a rumor, but no, they're completely capable of it lol. Nail that lid shut.
How does one acquire an octopus, as they look like very interesting pets?
William Wright They have some for sale on amazon not to bad on price 59 bucks pulse 34 in shipping just make sure you have a closed top with no way of getting out they are very good escape artists haha also very good filtration the water has to be almost perfect other than that super easy to have and very cool creatures
Thank you, now to convince my parents lol
William Wright hey no problem and good luck
William Wright Did you get one?
Roman Noddles can you send me a link for how to set up a aquarium? How long do they live?
Is she lonely? You should get her some live plants! Feed her a lush diet!
I am fairly certain octopuses are carnivores. Also, most octopuses live solitary lives in the wild, so I highly doubt its lonely.
She's a beauty. I am just in love with these feeling sweetheart octopi.🐙🦑🐙🦑
Ursula is so nice!
Can you make a vid on how to take care of one
Braeden Fox throw crabs in tank
Do water change

sad thing is they don't even live long. 5-7months avg only..
The life expectancy of an octopus is 12 - 14 months..
The Pacific Octopus lives over 5 years
+Jet Lee Maybe in the wild, my baby pacific octopus lived all of 5 years.
daniel grafflin Correct.
they live until they have children and they become fertile in 1 year. The mother protects the eggs so carefully that she starves to death.

Octopuses are highly intelligent... She must feel like she's in hell trapped in that aquarium for her whole life. A creature like that deserves to be free.
dampsalt Well you seem like a very educated individual...
Not necessarily, if he or sh was born in captivity then he or she will be fine. Now if he or she was captured then it would be a different story
Jordan Mcdaniel not necessarily as you don't need to be born in a closet to think a closet is a small space, I won't go into to much detail as I don't know much but typically a Octopus in captivity needs a huge amount of space(obviously depending on the species) some needing above 500 gallons as a minimum tank size.
Octopi need things to keep their minds occupied. They enjoy toys and just about any novel item will be seen as a toy. They especially like puzzles. Something that challenges their mind to open or get into for example. An octopus in a basic decorated tank is not a happy octopus.
WhatEvenIsThis _ obviously you need enough space, but you will be fine with spaces smaller that what others have if you are born that way. You're ok with a house smaller than a mansion aren't you?
poor crab,...
are you feeling it now mr crabs?

The beat crazy huh, I was doing the same.

Not really.
No not really
Poor girl looks like she wants out really badly :,(
Cuddlesworth Your an Inkling thats sad for a Octoling/octopus WTF
Octos are people too!!
That’s because it’s in a very small tank
+DarksAquatics
No, its a medium sized tank. Also, octopuses spend alot of their time in small spaces, so its unlikely they hate small spaces.
Cormac B how do you know how that octopus feels you should always give the fish the best home you can and if you can’t stay out of the hobby a fish shouldn’t have to suffer
Wonderful video. It's impressive to see such a seemingly happy creature in a captive environment, You seem to have a well built and maintained environment for your creatures. I hope that you continue your hobby with such enthusiasm and inspire others to aspire to your level.
What a cool pet! :)
1:25 ahhh what a nice day in my tank

Absolutely awesome.
Oooo it's so cute!!!!
I find it incredible how an octopus has the ability to control so many appendages. :O
Aww love it so cute 🐙
great song and cool pet
She looks AWESOME
Love the music and the octopus
Number 1 rule for having a pet octopus in home aquariums is make sure the lid is on top of the aquarium because octopuses are escape artists.
proper octopus song, fully imagine myself as one sliding nicely on the ocean floor tenticals all over the place
So cool I like to think them as an alien creature.
first time hearing this song, and damnnnn I LOVE THIS SONG...!!!!!!!!!!!
I love how the octopus is named Ursula XD
she looks so sweet

Wow, Tony, this is incredible! You've made such a terrific video. I have heard that octopus can crawl out of their tank and go over to another tank and eat the fish out of the other tank. The only way the owner knew what happened was by the trail of water and the missing fish! Again, great video Tony!
aww, she's a hugger!

to the ppl commenting about how they should be free look at it this way. the octopus is better off here than it was wherever he bought it. theres a store that sells them a half hour from my house and in the store the octopus is kept in a small thing within a bigger tank so its always fighting to get out.
