Great job. Nice sound and playing. The keyboard can be layered, but there is suppose to be a function that will allow the second layered sound to be brought in via the FC-1 foot controller. EX. Piano and strings layered. Piano as the main patch, and the using the food controller to bring in the strings.Do you know how that would be done....I can't find anything in the owner's manual that shows how to do that function.

Junior Shepherd , The keybed is on the lighter side imo. Its lighter than roland RD2000 and Kawai ES8 that I also own. It is pretty smooth but doesn't feel solid like CP4 or ES8.
After a year the keys on my MX88 started getting loose and made unacceptable noise. I contacted Yamaha and complained. Since my board was over a year old it was out of warranty...but...they agreed to a one time fix. The technician at the dealer ordered and replaced the whole key bed. It now plays like new, but I'm considering going a different route; buying an MX49 and a good midi keyboard controller.
I have a New MX88. The plus side - light weight, decent action. Some killer saxes and flutes as well as other woodwinds. Adjustable split point. Some nice organ sounds. The keyboard comes with drums and a whole batch of drum patterns and different drum combinations. Has USB storage capability, as well as being able to play back files. Can bue connected to I pad device for extra controllability. Negatives, only a couple acoustic pianos that I find passable ( I'm listening through headphones so I don't know what it sounds like through a sound system) I don't like any of the electric pianos - had a Kurzweil PC2X and the Whirlys were far better so were the Rhodes. Drums really heavy on the bass side for hip hop dance and techno...no eq adjustment on drums or for over all keyboard. I haven't explored all he settings or possibilities, so I may be missing something. ITs a good ( not great) keyboard for the money.

I own the MX88 and have played the Juno. In my opinion the MX88 is better. The Juno honestly feels horrible to me. The keybed and keys themselves feel very cheap. I'm not overly thrilled with the MX88 keybed either, but it's better.
The generation of Souls that were gifted to produce this type of melodic chord change usage is gone...too bad today's generation is devoid and out of touch with this introspection.
