Who is Jesus Alpha Course

5.The Alpha Course under Nick Gumbels leadership, since 1990, has been designed primarily for the non-Christians interested in becoming Christians. The heart of Christianity is Jesus and who he is. This is vividly explained in this 5 minute video. Jesus has the divine power to save us if his claim to be God (in the New Testament) is true. In considering whether to believe his divine claim, we are faced with three possibilities: (1) His claim was the result of a delusion. (2) His claim was a lie and (3) His claim was true. Given Jesus apparent faultless character and the list of utter selfless activities, we can safely rule out the first two possibilities, i.e. rejecting the view that he is a mad man or a liar, and hence has to accept the third possibility that he is what he claimed to be - God. The Bible indicates that whosoever believes in Jesus will have eternal life. This means that faith in him as a saviour will free us from the consequence of our sins, i.e. from an eternal damnation. Jesus had to die on the cross to save us out of his great love for us and, if we believe this, then we would necessarily feel an irresistible love for him in return and desire to dedicate our lives to please and glorify him and this entails loving and be a blessing to everyone and free from our self-centredness. Since almost all of our physical and mental problems arise from our self-centredness, being free from it by itself will give us peace, joy and happiness. Therefore, it is difficult to see what we each have to lose in having faith in Jesus, when it benefits us both now and in the afterlife if his claim turns out to be true and it still benefits us now and we are no worse-off than non-believers if his claim turns out to be untrue!
