Those all who wish to know if normal or any other oil can be used..
Well guyz the purpose of using oil is to have a mixture which will never mix with water.
So oil(any oil) being much more denser than water, will never mix.
So according to me, any oil will work just as fine as baby oil.
It's just that baby oil is much clearer and can easily allow colours to mix with it.

I used soap (dawn) instead of baby oil the only thing was that it was on the bottom, but it is a good substitute

Those of you may know that when you mix food coloring with baby oil the food coloring and baby oil won't mix so a solution is to mix the baby oil with art chalk to make the oil to have some color BUT the oil and the water for some reason won't combine to make one color
Well now that's not true....when shaken up the red and the blue becomes purple so actually it does become 1 color. When the mixture settles back down they separate bc water and oil can't stay consistently mixed on their own.

I tried this and used the wilton dyes like you and it didn’t work. The candy color dye bleed into the water and made it all just one color.
I think you have to mix the color into the water first, not the oil.

If you do this and add food coloring then add akelzeter (I’m sorry I don’t know how to spell it) it will be a DIY lava lamp.

Anh Lan regular food coloring is water based, you need one that is oil based

coconut oil is liquid only when it's warm or hot, so i don't think it would work well. but you can try it
No, because coconut oil will freeze up and harden, instead you can use vegetable oil.
